Join us weekly for more boat restoration fun! Favourite tool of the day - the hammer. In this episode we remove the propshaft so that we can change the shaft seal to a more modern dripless system. So we had to figure out how to remove a prop and the the propshaft, which involved a lesson in patience removing some rusty bolts. And in the process we decided the cutlass bearing should be changed. It made sense as we were already out of the water and the propshaft already removed. So then we had to figure out how to remove the cutlass bearing, and how to replace it. Then we finished with some glorious prop sanding and polishing. I was particularly proud of the finished result.

What happens when you mix an incoming hurricane, some rowdy sailors, a tattoo gun, and lots and lots of beers??? After arriving to Mexico after our 5 day passage, we were super stoked to dive right into everything this coast has to offer...but mother nature had other plans for us. What we hoped to have been a little 3 day stop over turned into 3 weeks as the strongest hurricane to ever hit the pacific coast of Mexico in the month of may rolled in to the north of us, and then blasted headwinds in the exact direction we wanted to go for the foreseeable forecast. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. A lesson we've learned on this journey of ours is the importance of being flexible. There's a lot we can control out here, but the wind is not one of them. We were grounded most of this week because the wind was absolutely crazy in Croatia! As always, we made the most of it. Croatia has some of the most beautiful waterfalls I've ever seen in their national parks and I'm so excited to share them with you. We also ate amazing produce, saw an ancient coliseum, and even went to a whole other country (kind of). We've been amazed at just how small this world really is when it comes to friends. We were able to meet up with some dear friends that we've now seen on three continents! It's always good to catch up with people you care about. Speaking of which, we welcomed my brother and his wife and got to hang with them for a week. One of my favorite things is getting to share this experience with people I love. It was great having them with us this week.

Squeezing in every last minute of sailing, into the ever shortening daylight winter hours is this weeks task! We have a major storm brewing and the nasty weather front is heading our way! There is no where to hide and we are truly trying to out run the storm! In the mean time we have an eerie silent calm with silky smooth water like I've never had before. So its engines on, constant watches to avoid floating debris from the floods and heading as quickly as possible to the Strait of Messina. It features global highlights of the sport which have been released in the last seven days. It was the first ever event win for Quentin Delapierre’s France SailGP Team, defeating Jimmy Spithill’s USA team and Tom Slingsby’s Australia in the final at Spain Sail Grand Prix. The French team rocket into the all-important top three of the championship standings after six events of Season 3. For the fourth regatta of the 2022 52 SUPER SERIES, the world's leading grand prix regatta series, returns to Italy for the first time since 2019, this time going back to the Marina di Scarlino in beautiful Tuscany. In late September there should be a good range of wind and weather conditions and usually it is an open race course area. There are several changes in crew line ups. . . . it is going to be a truly fascinating week of racing, seeing if any one team can build themselves a decent cushion to carry forwards to the season's grand finale in Barcelona. In the Golden Globe Race the USA entrant Guy deBeor has called in with the latest on his boat SPIRIT, which ran aground in the Canaries. He has interest from local salvage companies to salvage the boat. He is talking here to race organiser Don McIntyre. At the Annapolis Yacht Club last Friday Eight Clubs with teams of six, lined up for match racing, 3 on 3 team racing, and 2 on 2 team racing. Its fast, furious and decidedly fun.
