This week Hurricane Ian hit us directly in Punta Gorda, FL. This was our first visit back into town since evacuating to a hotel in Miami. We drove back today, flipped on the camera, and recorded the drive from Hwy 75, West on 17, almost to Ponce DeLeon Park. We were traveling to our house in the old Sailboat Section, and you can see the roads along Palm Tree Lane and Tropicanna Drive. The devastation was shocking, and many still had homes standing with minimal damage. Minimal, in this case, is likely over $50K in damage, but in the grand scheme of things, this could have been much worse. Had this hit north toward Sarasota, we may have experienced the storm surge that Fort Myers, Cape Coral, and Naples received. We are lucky, I hope if you live in town or have relatives in town, this video shows the realities of what it is like without exaggerated commentary. Is it safe to go in the water? Well NO not really but these waters are so crystal clear we risk the dangers and take a swim. Was it worth it, well you'll have to watch to see! Heading further up the Ionian we call in at Luxouri, a small harbour adjacent to Argostoli where many fear to tread believing the entrance and inner harbour are too shallow. Through beautiful anchorages and calm seas we head up the Lefkas channel and through the swing bridge before sailing into storms in Corfu. We leave the King George River and make our way around the corner of Kalooma Bay to “Lagoon Bay”. It didn’t have a name so we named it! We go ashore and spot the resident crocodile in a beautiful lagoon. No swimming for us! We then head up the coast to Glycosmis Bay and check out the stunning Aboriginal rock art at the Lost City. After a day or so there we sail north to Jim’s Bay before rounding Cape Londonderry and after much indecision, finally end up at West Governor Island. Thanks for watching. Until next time. Add salt and pepper to taste Add garlic to the pan and cook for 1-2 minutes Open the chicken and save any broth for later. Add the chicken to the pan and break into small pieces Add the broccoli and chicken broth to the pan. Cover and cook for 10 minutes Add the rice and stir well until the rice is in the broth Add the tomatoes Cover and cook for 10-15 minutes or until the rice is cooked, stirring occasionally while the rice is cooking. We're back to work on our boat this week, and making progress in a very important area - the steps!! ** If you want to help out with Fish For a Cure, click here!! https://www.fishforacure.org/ *** For the last 18 months, each time we've wanted to get from the bridge deck into the hull we've had to slide down the chamfered panel. But, that stops now as Matt begins working on our three sets of stairs leading into both hulls. I also revisit an update where I show the work I've been able to accomplish lately with fairing, and how I've fallen in love with the 3M lightweight body filler as it also works as a guide coat, telling me where I need to add more filler. Lastly, we begin to install PVC pipes to eventually run conduit through. Leopard 45 sailing catamaran, New York Harbor, Hudson River, East River, Hells gate, and fixing our broken bilge pump. In this episode onboard our Leopard 45 sailing catamaran, we cut across New York Harbor to fuel up at the Liberty Landing Marina in Jersey City. Then we make our way through the cold, windy rain up the Hudson River to West Point, with a quick stop in Nyack so Jeff can relive his childhood memories. We say "see ya later" to Greg and Dania, and Jeff and I make our way up the East River, under the Brooklyn Bridge, the Manhattan Bridge, the Williamsburg Bridge, the Queensboro Bridge, the Triborough Bridge, and finally through Hell's Gate. Then we spend time debugging multiple issues with our bilge pump and waters maker. Back up a few days, we took a trip to the 911 Memorial Museum. A virtual walkthrough of the 3D concept model we designed. A 50' performance and cruising catamaran based off of the Solitaire 1490 by Schionning Designs. Our new model will be sold as a new kit and called the Solitaire 1520. We will take our new sailboat on a circumnavigation of planet Earth. She is a sailing catamaran with daggerboards, kick-up rudders, shallow draft, high bridge deck clearance and all the cruising comforts we could design into the boat. Living on a boat can be deadly when you have an accident and are in a remote location. In this video, I get impaled by a stick on a casual walk at Water Cay. My ankle swelled badly and it was too painful to walk on. We ended up cutting our time short in Water Cay and heading to Thompson Bay to be closer to medical attention; a nurse there took a quick look and said that it didn't appear infected and just needed time to heal. So, we took off for Conception Island, to be reunited with a group of friends, one of whom happened to be an ER doctor, so we were in good hands.
