Another storm in the anchorage. This time our dingy was not in the davids but on a rope behind the boat. The wind picked it up like a leave and turned it upside down causing us to loose our flipflops, peddels, gastank, inflatable floor and the outboard was completely under for over thirty minutes. So many jobs and so little time..coats of varnish just keep happening, morning, afternoon and night. This just becomes the norm for me. In between coats, there's no slacking,.....time to get another job started AND that is to cover the helm wheels. How? Well, with a very cost effective and durable alternative to leather! Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. An ultra-light onshore breeze at the 44Cup Portoroz World Championship should have made for a straightforward opening day to the high performance one design’s pinnacle event of the season. In fact it demonstrated how the nimble RC44 can race meaningfully in practically no wind, but still scores were high with all eight teams suffering at least one big result. Despite a seventh place in today’s opening round when they were late for the start line, Hugues Lepic’s Aleph Racing went on to post a 2-1 in today’s final two races leaving the French team, at the end of the first day two points ahead of a trio of boats: Nico Poons' Charisma, local hero Igor Lah on Ceeref powered by Hrastnik 1860 and Chris Bake's Team Aqua. After three races the mid-fleet remains close with second to seventh place separated by just four points.

Where do you start in learning how to sail such a cutting-edge, and high-performance yacht? A good place is this ‘How to sail the AC40’ video, with Emirates Team New Zealand Helmsman, Nathan Outteridge. An impressive international fleet of over 100 registered yachts from 25 countries are set to contest the 43rd edition of the renowned Rolex Middle Sea Race. This year also marks twenty years of the partnership between Rolex, the race, and its organizers the Royal Malta Yacht Club. . Doug DeVos’ Quantum Racing, won the Royal Cup 52 SUPER SERIES, Scarlino title in Tuscany Italy, their third regatta triumph of the five event, 2022, 52 SUPER SERIES season. They overturned a one point deficit to triumph by five clear points ahead of Takashi Okura’s Sled, and now carry a five points lead going in to the 2022 season big finale, in Barcelona, in three weeks time. The 800 sailors and 46 Maxis competing in week two, of Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez, managed to stay focused as they waited for the Eeasterly wind to pick up, and when it did, the teams of Georges Korhel, and the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez, immediately sprang into action to launch the day's race. Setting sail on a 20-mile, double looped circuit around the gulf. The stage was set for a grand finale day of racing on the last day of the M32 World Championship. As all boats headed to the course the top 6 boats had clear intentions of spraying champagne and taking the trophy home as winners. Cascais delivered perfect conditions for the show with a solid north-westerly breeze of 16-20 knots. In few weeks, 138 solo sailors will set sail for an Atlantic crossing between Saint-Malo and Pointe-à-Pitre, that they have been dreaming of for months, some for years. The islands of Berlenga are a nature reserve, in front of the coast of Portugal, in between Porto and Lisbon. We sailed to them and spend 2 days exploring the islands. Red rock with beautiful beaches with turquoise water. We walked up to a fort on top of a big rock and discovered a little fishingvillage where you choose between 2 small bars to have a drink and snacks.

We said a fond farewell to the postcard-worthy Isla Zapatilla - near Bocas del Toro, Panama - and wove our way through a narrow channel into a large, sheltered deepwater lagoon nestled with hundreds of atolls! This whole area was so different from anything we'd ever seen on the Pacific - spectacularly beautiful, but also with many new navigation dangers. Luckily the Captain had his First Mate on the bow watching for shallow water and coral heads, but another cruising boat wasn't so lucky... Na de klussen op Terceira vertrekken we richting Nederland. De voorspelde wind is zeer licht, maar de praktijk blijkt anders te zijn. Op de vijfde dag scheurt de genua en moeten we met een haakse slijper aan de slag om het zeil naar beneden te krijgen. Maar daar blijft het niet bij. De wind neemt enorm toe en teistert Eva en haar bemanning. Door overkomende golven lekt het binnen, het grootzeilval raakt onbruikbaar, diverse reeflijnen slijten door en de windwijzer verdwijnt uit de top van de mast. Om maar een paar details te noemen. Ondanks alle ellende eten we goed en de sfeer aan boord is prima. Jarenlang heb ik ervan gedroomd om zeilend te gaan waar de wind me brengt. In 2020 was het dan eindelijk zover en heb ik samen met Felia een prachtige reis gemaakt naar Scandinavië en de Baltische staten. Onze Eva, een Atlantic 43 uit 2007, is een aluminium zeiljacht met hefkiel en gebouwd en uitgerust voor reizen naar plaatsen die net achter de horizon liggen. Vanaf 2021 vaar ik met wisselende bemanning zuidwaarts. Ik vind het leuk om onze avonturen met jullie te delen. This has all happened a little bit quicker than I thought it would but in recent weeks i've been realising that the Mirror Dinghy is going to be a bit too small and challenging for me to take on serious Sea cruising adventures. Its a mix of my weight, the size of the boat and also a few other things, so whilst it may have come as a bit of a surprise to you guys, I think for me it's just the next boat coming a little earlier than expected. Eigentlich wollte ich bereits 2020 den portugiesischen Jakobsweg laufen, aber eine Pandemie kam mir dazwischen. Seitdem hat die Jakobsmuschel im Schrank auf ihren Einsatz gewartet. Anfang dieses Jahres habe ich mich entscheiden, dieses Jahr den Camino Frances zu laufen. Die meisten kennen ihn durch Hape Kerkeling. Das ganze Jahr habe ich mich darauf gefreut und Ende August ging es dann endlich los.
