Installing a DCDC charger allows us to keep our alternator separate from our lithium battery bank. In this way, we can charge our house batteries while also protecting the alternator from the extremely low impedance of our lithium batteries. The challenge with DCDC chargers is dealing with the heat they generate. This typically isn't a dangerous problem, because the DCDC charger will throttle back it's output to keep the temperature from getting too high. The trouble is that this "safety throttling" drastically reduces the chargers output by 50% or more. Simply put, the hotter the charger gets, the less power it produces. Simply keeping the DCDC charger cool can make the difference in seeing only 10 amps of current from a hot charger to seeing up to 35 amps from a cool one. We solve this problem by building an automatic venting system into the cabinet where the DCDC charger and other electronics are housed. There are only 2 main components to the venting system - a brushless computer fan and a thermal switch. With a little shopping around you can find a thermal switch and brushless PC fan for around $25. We had to cut some large holes in the cabinet to provide adequate ventilation. We installed the PC fan so that it extracts the hot air into the engine room while blowing cool air across the hot electronics from the salon. Early on when Toni and I were reviewing the Seawind 1260 options in Episode 10, we were unsure about the “Cookout BBQ” option commonly referred to as the “grill”. Where are the grates?, the open flame, the smoker . . .? We wondered if we should eliminate the “Cookout BBQ” in favor of a different grill, one with grates. After much discussion, we decided to convert our home grill to the same style as the Seawind “Cookout BBQ”, or the teppanyaki style. After a year, we share our thoughts on what we like and maybe what we did not like about this style of grill and make our recommendation. In the last episode we managed to get the three pieces of our cabin top up on deck, with the help of Tucker and his dad's backhoe. With a few extra hands we move the heavy center piece into place, and you can really get a feel for the inside space. Then Matt begins to beef up that area, by adding structural beams to the opening of our cockpit, and we make the area pretty by adding gelcoat covers. Taking a Sunday off boat work to enjoy ourselves, we hop on Tucker's trawler and do a sea trial across the Chesapeake Bay, enjoying quick bourbon toast before heading back. Lastly, and maybe the most exciting, is cutting the openings in the front section of our cabin sides to place our Vetus flush hatches in! The new amount of light it lets in is great...but once again, we get to work with our favorite task of unidirectional roping to go back and strengthen the area. We hope you enjoy! Beginning of July we sailed back from Kuna Yala to Panama mainland. On our trip to Colombia we overheated one of our engines and exhaust waterlock was totally burned down. 3 weeks of waiting for the spareparts and we finally got them. We also ordered a new Genoa instead of totally delaminated one and this one finally arrived too. We aren’t marina people and we don’t like to stay in the marina. Always prefer to stay at anchor where we have privacy, where we can jump to the water… but for overhaul of our engines we had to go to the marina. We had an idea that the engine was totally ok after overheating, but just to have a second opinion we wanted to check it with local mechanic. We made an overhaul of our engines and luckily they found out that two of the engine mounts were nearly broken. So we had to replace them. After long two weeks in the marina we were ready to go back to San Blas, Kuna Yala archipelago. We caught a pretty big blue fin tuna on the way and made 5 (five!) different meals out of it. We have a Nemo brand jib furler on Paikea. It is the original one that came with the old mast. When we built our carbon rotating mast we retrofitted the existing stainless steel wire stays from our aluminum mast to our new rig and kept the old furler. When we went sailing recently our headstay wouldn't unfurl, it turns out that instead of ball bearings in the furler we have squashed balls. Now comes the challenge of fixing an old broken furler on the island of Antigua. In the middle of a passage, our rudder sheared. Yes, you read that correctly. It was gone. We limped back to Clifton Bay and began the process of ordering a new one. We worked with Foss Foam Company and they were helpful, supportive, and empathetic. They were truly wonderful to work with and we would give them our business again. Additionally, they worked hard to get us our rudder as fast as possible. Check out the video to hear our story of how we dealt with losing a rudder in 2000 feet of water, the process to order one, the arrival and installation of the rudder, and then the dropping of the rudder again in Guatemala to properly prepare the surface, paint and protect it and re-install. Leaving Sceale Bay we round Cape Blanche and Cape Radstock and enter the very shallow Baird Bay. Dropping the tender, we head to the sandy beach at Jones Island which is now gone with the incoming tide to find all the seals gone. As soon as we arrive though, they come waddling down between the rocks and into the water to play with us. The boys head out for a dive and catch a few large southern rock lobster (crayfish), before we head off to the very pretty and protected Venus Bay. Another slow start for day two of the 44Cup Portorož World Championship saw the fleet held ashore with racing not getting underway until 1400. However when it did fill in, the breeze was a crucial two knots more than it was for the opening day and the eight RC44 teams were able to race with their high performance one designs fully powered up.

We've done everything we can to make sure she has the best chance while alone here in this storage yard. She's tied down, and her shiny exterior wood is covered. She's sealed up just enough to keep critters and bugs out and clean enough so they don't come looking. The mast has been stripped and messenger lines are in place. We packed all of our important belongings, equipment and hardware into the boat, and locked her up. In just over a week, we made great friends, and started to feel at home in Indiantown. We feel as though Seawind will be alright and and we already cannot wait to return. We said goodbye and just like that, we no longer live on the ocean, for now. Inför 300-årsjubileet 2021-22 omarbetades spelet till en byvandring "I Graves spår" av Annacari Jadling-Ohlsson. Projektledare var Birgitta Gottfries-Dahlberg och Postkodlotteriet sponsrade. Gravendals bybor och "sommarfåglar" har gjort  vandringen möjlig. Tack alla som deltog och ställde upp med sin tid. Gravendal är en by i Säfsen, Ludvika kommun, belägen cirka 15 km sydöst om Fredriksberg och cirka 60 km väster om Ludvika.
