We need to re-attach the fly wheel in 2 weeks before the canals close for winter! The marina owner says it is absolutely impossible. A real test of our determination to get sailing! We found out the flywheel had broken lose from the crankshaft. Multiple people at this point have told me that the only way to repair this is to haul the whole engine completely out of the boat. Jimmy Jeff the marina owner has stated that we need to get on his haul out list for winter and the Rough estimate for the flywheel job was $3500 but "likely more".. "BUT we cannot take care of your engine until next spring" BUT ! That Doesn't stop us because My Dad and I aka "Al Mac" have a plan! So we think. . . Can we do the impossible job of removing the transmission, bellhousing and engine brackets without hauling the Perkins completely out of the boat? Oh and this is the first diesel and liveaboard cruising boat I have ever worked on! What have we gotten our self's into? Can we do the impossible and re-attach the flywheel back onto the crankshaft of our Perkins 4.108 Without using a crane to pull the engine out? #perkinsengine #sailingchannel #perkins4.108

We leave Dog Leg Creek and work our way through the passage next to Koolan Island. It’s full of treacherous currents and twists and turns. We then sail south to Dugong Bay with its majestic waterfall and wind our way to the Horizontal Falls. It’s just about slack low tide so we venture over to the falls and take a look. Before we know if we’re passing through the falls! We return to the falls at high tide and venture through again. It’s an amazing place with whirlpools and huge currents. Still is a beautiful place and I wish we could stay longer. On the concluding day of the 2022 44Cup’s final event, the 44Cup Oman, PRO Maria Torrijo defied the odds and was able to stage three races. This was our first trip up to Fish Creek in 2022. We had planned to travel up sooner in the season, but work-related responsibilities required a change of plans - twice! This late August trip was nevertheless delightful with generally good weather. We did have varying wind on the nose - Northeast - for the trip up requiring us to motor. We never got the threatened rain but did get a very strong wind event starting in the early evening. It was out of the North, directly into the harbor at Fish Creek. After getting swarmed by bugs its time to get out our anchorage and sail off to the next spot. Thats the best thing about living on a sailboat, if you don't like a location sail on to the next anchorage.It's a quick six mile sail but we decide to raise our spinnaker anyway. Bill always thinks he is racing so and can't resist also raising the main for a boost in speed to pass our friends on One Life. We drop the hook in the tiny town of San Evertisto which is a small fishing village. We are excited to learn there is a restaurant in town. We've been in remote areas of the Sea of Cortez and it's been a while since we were able to eat out.
