We had spent the last several months in the remote islands of the south Atlantic. Our final passage across the Atlantic would take us from Ascension Island to Salvador, Brazil, the berth place of Carnival. The sail was our second longest to date at 1,450 nautical miles taking around 10 days. Conditions were everything from perfect to miserable and squally. Lagoon 42 Starting high above Vancouver Canada, we fly East across North America and across the Atlantic and Northeast up into Scandinavia and the home of last time's yacht at the Quorning Boats yards. From here we head Southwest to France's Western shores and the home the 42 at the Lagoon yards. Finally, we fly a bit further north up the coast to the wineries of Chateau Moulin De Taffard and our wine pairing this week, Chateau Moulin De Taffard Medoc Cru Bourgeois. A fine dry wine from Bordeaux, created from a blend of red grapes, grown on limestone soils of the famous Bordeaux region of Medoc. In 1914 Teobalt Peyrus bought property in Katsilone bordering the Gironde estuary, about 70 km north of Bordeaux. Today, the farm covers 41 hectares, and the management of the company is concentrated in the hands of grandson and great-grandson. Maceration involves separate fermentation of different varieties of grapes at a temperature of from 26 to 28 ° C, including the malolactic fermentation. This is done twice daily watering caps. Before exposure the wine is blended, then aged for 12-16 months in oak barrels, with half used barrels made of French oak and half - from the US. Wine is not subject to filtering, thus preserving the rich color and rich flavor. The wine is a deep dark red color with purple hues with a fresh, intense aroma, full plume which envelops the fruit nuances and subtle touches of wood. The taste is soft and rich, plentiful and long lasting. Fine tannic shades adorn the dominant notes of dark berries and nuances of undergrowth. Young, alternative artists such as Courbet, Monet, Cézanne or Gauguin took the work under their wing and paid special tribute to it. Manet therefore exhibited some of his paintings, which had been rejected by the Paris Salon, in the alternative Salon de Refusés. However, in contrast to the core group of Impressionist artists, Manet was convinced that they should not completely break away from the traditional Salon. For this reason, he continued to regularly exhibit his works at the Paris Salon. Manet was closely associated with the Impressionists, influenced many artists and took up many elements in exchange with them himself, but he never wanted to feel he belonged to this group.

After finally managing to make it through Whirlpool Pass we tuck into a bay at Dunvert island, just on the other side and have a well earned rest. The next day Magnus looks at all of our options and we decide that the best thing to do is to head out to sea and then sail to Broome. We can use Peanut as our propulsion, but we do not have enough fuel to motor all of the way to Broome so we need to pick our windows and sail when we can. It’s about 160 nautical miles to Broome. We would swing circles around our anchor on our catamaran sailboat! Even with lots of chain out it was very uncomfortable and probably contributed to the damage we sustained during that bad storm. A spinnaker turtle bag has all the features to ensure a smooth hoist of your cruising spinnaker or cruising gennaker. The bag is long and narrow enough to fit through a deck hatch. There are velcro straps at the ends to secure the corners of the sail to keep them from getting lost in the bag. The turtle bag even comes with snap clips so that you can secure the bag to the boat before you hoist the sail so that the bag does not go overboard during the hoist. To pack the sail in the bag, first use the velcro straps to secure the the tack and clew corners. Starting from the dousing sock's mouth, lay the socked sail into the bag, zig zagging the sock as you work your way to the head. This way, when the sail is hoisted it will come out of the bag without twists. If your sail came with a drawstring bag, or you lost your current bag overboard, call your local UK Sailmakers loft for a Spinnaker Turtle bag, which will make handling your cruising spinnaker even easier.

Είχε ένα FINN που πριν βγει στην θάλασσα έβαζε τους Οπτιμίστες να μασάνε τσίχλες για να βουλώσει το άνοιγμα (κρακ) που είχε στην πλώρη, για να μη μπαίνουν νερά. Με το σκάφος αυτό κατόρθωσε να πρωταγωνιστήσει σε πολλούς διασυλλογικούς αγώνες. Με κατόρθωμα να πάρει και τρίτη θέση σε Πανελλήνιο Πρωτάθλημα μπαίνοντας έτσι στην Εθνική ομάδα. Τότε δεν υπήρχαν LASER, έτσι υπήρχε μεγάλη συμμέτοχη στους αγώνες με σκάφη Φινν, πάνω από 40 σκάφη. Αργότερα του έδωσε η Ε.Ι.Ο. ένα καινούργιο FINN τύπου Vanguard (vang·gaad ) όπου συμμετείχε σε αγώνες φέρνοντας διακρίσεις σε αγώνες του εσωτερικού όσο και διεθνείς.
