Can you anchor in the Porto river? Yes! It's a bit tricky with the wind, tide and river current - but it's fully possible and FREE! As sailors we get to visit all these beautiful places, sometimes we pay big money for marina spots and that's still cool. But when we find a possibility to anchor and we can stay in the middle of these cities for free, it feels even more special. So come hang with us in Porto! We also set sail south, beating the wind with our genoa for the first time. It's a second hand genoa, probably more suitable for racing than cruising open waters, but it's a good first buy to try out if we would use a genoa much. The campaign features a short series of entertaining videos that looks at men and women in sailing, and the biased narratives that sometimes exists between them. The videos humorously deflect the socio-cultural prejudices that women can face in the world of sailing: women often excluding themselves in certain situations. After having the engine worked on we left the marina only to find a few minutes later, the engine died. Being towed back to the marina we were beginning to feel like a boomerang. The Racor filters have been cleaned and rebuilt, our fuel and tank have been polished, lines have been cleaned, lift pump replaced and no air in the lines. We thought we were good to go. Trying to make some time and beat the squalls, we motored and to our dismay, three hours later the engine died! We raised the sails to get as close to our next destination as possible before calling to be towed yet again. Our fuel delivery issues still exist. A spinnaker turtle bag has all the features to ensure a smooth hoist of your cruising spinnaker or cruising gennaker. The bag is long and narrow enough to fit through a deck hatch. There are velcro straps at the ends to secure the corners of the sail to keep them from getting lost in the bag. The turtle bag even comes with snap clips so that you can secure the bag to the boat before you hoist the sail so that the bag does not go overboard during the hoist. To pack the sail in the bag, first use the velcro straps to secure the the tack and clew corners. Starting from the dousing sock's mouth, lay the socked sail into the bag, zig zagging the sock as you work your way to the head. This way, when the sail is hoisted it will come out of the bag without twists. If your sail came with a drawstring bag, or you lost your current bag overboard, call your local UK Sailmakers loft for a Spinnaker Turtle bag, which will make handling your cruising spinnaker even easier.
