Stunning Reef in Misool. Nudi Rock Dive Site It's easy to see why this site is called Nudibranch Rock. Just look at the profile of the island. Luckily there are also nudibranchs to be found under water. This dive site is very diverse and marine life can be found everywhere. In the deep water there are often barracudas or Bump-head Parrot fish. Sometimes even big stingrays in the sand. In the more shallow water, there are of course all the beautiful soft coral and all the marine life that make these areas their home. $1,000 of bonding agent in our hands and one chance not to mess this up. Matt and I have been quite busy these past few days (just finished this project yesterday) and using the warm weather at our disposal to break out our methacrylate bonding agent again. It's the adhesive we use to bond all the pieces of the hull together before they get glassed. Most of the boat HAS been put together at this point, but we still have the very large cabin top to contend with. Before we can even attach it to the boat, we need to bond the three separate pieces together. Matt spends a few days prepping the overlapping flanges, and then we're ready to go. This round we're lucky to have a new batch of methacrylate with a longer working time, going from 45 minutes previously up to 90 minutes now. And for the first bond we need every single minute, as things are not lining up like they should. We hope you enjoy!

#198 ✍️ 20 mars, il y a des lieux comme ça, où l’on se sent bien. Des lieux où le temps passe sans que l’on s’en aperçoive. Portobelo fait partie de ces escales qui nous ont fait vibrer. S’en vient, non loin, une nouvelle destination, Shelter bay à Colon. Moins exotique, plus formelle. C’est là que nous devons nous rendre pour faire mesurer Black Lion avant la traversée du fameux canal. Préliminaire d’un rituel bien rodé. Contrairement aux rumeurs exhortant d’engager un agent pour les laborieuses démarches, celui-ci n’est pas obligatoire et les formalités, loin d’être insurmontables ! A l’époque, encore à notre passage en 2016, nous pouvions nous rendre au Nautico Yacht Club. Pratique, en plein centre de Colon, nous avions accès à un ponton pour notre annexe et toutes les commodités pour trois fois rien. Mais cette époque est révolue. Abus de position de la concurrence ? Pratiques anticoncurrentielles ? Enjeux économiques trop tentant ? Les hypothèses sont nombreuses, mais les faits sont là : Shelter Bay a maintenant le monopole ! Et qui dit monopole, dit tarifs en conséquence ! Ce procédé nous horripile ! C’est pourquoi, nous allons tout faire pour détourner cette marina dite obligée. En attendant les mensurations de notre Lion, un refuge nous appelle… Le Rio Chagres…Contribuant à alimenter le lac Gatùn, ce rio joue un rôle important dans le système du canal de Panama. Son entrée est délicate, mais des indications sûres nous permettent d’y accéder sans danger. On réduit la vitesse pour entrer en douceur. A notre bâbord, le fort Lorenzo, vieux de 400 ans. Erigé par les Espagnols au cours de la moitié du XVIIe siècle pour protéger la région des attaques de pirates et de corsaires. Et la nature, sauvage, dense, luxueuse. Dire que juste derrière, se trouve un des trafics maritime et économique le plus important de la planète ! Notre premier repérage en kayak est plus que prometteur ! Aucune nuisance humaine ne vient troubler la quiétude de cette forêt tropicale. Tous nos sens sont à l’affût, on s’imprègne de la résonance de chaque être. Le chant des oiseaux, le froissement des feuilles sur lesquels se faufilent les lézards et les crabes, les jacassements des singes, le babillage des perruches. Le paresseux, lui, reste discret. Paisible, dans la canopée, il se laisse observer. Les plus impressionnants sont les hurlements des singes du genre portant le même nom ! Je me sens bien, comme ma moitié, complètement imprégnée des lieux. Une parenthèse hors du temps où nous nous sentons en osmose ! La brume surplombe le Rio. Rien ne bouge. Rien, sauf un crocodile ! Il godille, sans nul doute, confiant. Son attitude flegmatique est captivante. Il incarne parfaitement la tranquillité de cet endroit préservé, où la faune règne en maitre. Un serpent suit sa trace pendant que les toucans merveilleusement colorés traversent d’une rive à l’autre. En suivant le cours d’eau vers l’intérieur des terres, nous arrivons au lac Gatun. Là où tous les navires transitent avant de rejoindre, soit le Pacifique, soit l’Atlantique. Pour combien de temps encore, si proche de cette frénésie économique, ce paradis écologique sera épargné ? Les braconniers sont déjà sur le coup ! Nous les avons entendus, de nuit, déforester. Où iront alors ces milliers d’insectes, d’animaux ? Qu’adviendra-t-il de cette faune abondante ? Pourvu que nos enfants puissent encore voir toute cette beauté. On aimerait arriver à nous fondre dans la masse, comme toutes ces créatures imitant la végétation avec génie, de jour comme de nuit. Sur l’eau marbrée, nous sommes portés par une espèce de curiosité de tous les instants. Cette graine nous intrigue ! Longue, dure, poilue… Ah non ! Pas d’idée tordue ! Je parle de la graine du balsa ! Le rivage en est envahi, jusqu’au fort Lorenzo. Si les pierres pouvaient parler, que nous diraient elles ? We lost our rudder sailing from the Canary Islands to St Lucia in the Caribbean. We've spent the last 14months cruising around with only 1 rudder. We really do need to make a new one but it has taken time to get the funds together and source materials. Plus we had to build some carbon chainplates in the mean time. https://youngbarnacles.com/making-carbon-fibre-chainplates/ To make the rudder blades we sourced the foam from Wind in Martinique. We had epoxy and enough fibreglass on board to get the project underway. Martinique is a great place to source materials if you need to do boat repairs in the Windward Islands. As we already mentioned Shayne designed these rudders for Paikea. We always collect a lot of data while sailing. The information we learn on performance and efficiency helps us understand and improve Paikea's design. In our latest video we show how we made the composite rudders for Paikea including how we shaped the foam blank and attached it to our stock. Lot's of information in this one. We may have found one of our favorite areas to sail our catamaran in all of Baja California Sur, Mexico. Bahia Concepción, in the Sea Of Cortez, has a handful of beautiful anchorages and plenty of activities to keep us busy for weeks. We almost wish we found our way up north sooner in the season but we are glad we got to anchor in almost every spot the bay has to offer. Great sailing, fantastic restaurants, plenty of scenic views and hiking trails to explore for many days. We will be back here for sure next season as we continue to explore Mexico and the Sea Of Cortez in our Gemini 105mc catamaran sailboat.

We sail South down the Yasawa and Mamanuca Island chains. From Sawa-I-Lau to Blue Lagoon, down to Waya Island, Kuata Island, Navadra Island, Castaway Island, Mana Island, and finally back to Musket Cove; Malolo Lailai Island. This completes our round trip out East, and will be our 'home base' for the remainder of the cyclone season.

The following day, our adventure took us on a hike up Creag Bhan. This is the highest point on the island at 101 metres. At the summit, we discovered an ideal picnic spot, adding an extra layer of delight to our journey 😁. Das nicht mehr benötigte Schiebeluk wird abgebaut und das Salondach ausgeschnitten Unser Segelboot Squib, ein Catalac 9M, ist in die Jahre gekommen, die Verkleidung hängt teilweise von der Decke, die Farbe blättert ab, die Elektrik auf dem Stand des vorigen Jahrtausends,..... Ein Refit steht an. Doch Broterwerb und Verpflichtungen lassen es nicht zu, monatelang in Griechenland am Boot zu arbeiten. Da wird schon 2018 die Idee geboren Squib nach Wien zu bringen, wo man jederzeit Zugang hat, der Einkauf von Material in der Muttersprache abgewickelt werden kann und alles andere seinen gewohnten Verlauf nimmt. 2021 war es dann endlich soweit, mit zwei generalüberholten Motoren und einem neuen Geräteträger starteten wir Anfang Juli Richtung Südfrankreich.Leider hatten wir für die gesamte Reise nur zwei Monate Zeit, deswegen hieß es die meiste Zeit Strecke machen. Doch manchmal nahmen wir uns die Zeit zu verweilen, uns Orte näher anzuschauen.
