I rent a dirtbike for $10 a day from luperon, then rip down the coast line for three days. I camp out on top of a mountain. I trail ride through the mountains in the coastal forestry , go to secret beaches, and meet other trail riders. This has been my favorite adventure in the Dominican republic, and in my travels in all.

This week marks one year since Kim and Sienna left the boat. Sienna is loving land and enjoying middle school. Kim has acclimated herself to suburban life. Here we look at the underside of a Bavaria 40 sailboat in downtown Vancouver, Canada. Bavaria yachts are famous for their elegance and style, and the underwater parts are no exception! The sleek lines of the hull make this boat an efficient long-distance cruiser, with the long fin keel and spade rudder working to provide a perfect counter to the large sail plan above water. Sitting in False Creek over the winter, this particular vessel is in need of a hull cleaning but is otherwise in great health. Every waterway seems to have a different blend of sea life which flourishes on the local boats. In the case of False Creek Vancouver, we commonly see the algae featured in this video. It probably has a fancy scientific name but for obvious reasons we call it False Creek Floss. Although it comes off a boat with very little effort, this stuff very quickly grows like a thick beard over every underwater surface. Most algae likes sunlight but in this case the strong currents of False Creek are what Floss thrives in. Shot with a Chasing M2 Submersible Drone in Vancouver, British Columbia.

We've left Key West and marina life behind and sail up the Florida Keys. In this episode our family learns to liveaboard - managing seasickness, morning rituals, dinghy driving, and the joys of provisioning (while no longer owning a car). Things get "creepy" while exploring an abandoned neighborhood, Nate gets busted by the Coast Guard, and we generally have a great time gaining our sea legs and preparing for our next adventure. 🌍 Team Malizia Leads The Ocean Race’s Fleet Into The Northern Hemisphere 💪🏽 Yesterday at 19:39:57 UTC, Team Malizia skippered by Will Harris was the first team to cross the Equator in Leg 4 of The Ocean Race after 8 days 3 hours 24 minutes and 57 seconds. The fleet of IMOCA boats has been sailing in moderate trade winds. Speeding north, they rounded the corner of northeastern Brazil last night and reached fairly benign doldrums soon after. Team Malizia has been racing neck and neck with 11th Hour Racing Team, alternating between first and second place. Royal National Park is Australia's oldest and lay right on out doorstep. It was only a short passage for us from Cronulla but as we motored up the river we left the hustle and bustle behind us with every corner we rounded. Pretty soon we were emerged in nature and felt very far away. After adding some new solar panels recently we finally had enough power to begin using our ePropulsion outboard motor again. Id almost forgotten what a little ripper this thing is. So nice to be able to cruise silently while listening to the birds and chatting all the while. A discussion on a recent sinking of a Precision 18 sailboat and some safety recommendations for sailing small or light sailboats. The April 2023 sinking was a 1985 P-18 named "Cuddlefish". The boat was sailing downwind with full sails under the control of the autotiller with the mainsheet cleated. The boat was hit by an initial strong gust and the captain went forward with the intention of taking down the sails when the second gust hit and capsized the boat. Both aboard were safely pulled from the water by another nearby boat. In the 2011 incident, the captain was an inexperienced sailor and apparently sheeted in (rather than releasing the mainsheet) when the boat was hit by a gust. Two of the three people aboard lost their lives. A small craft advisory had been issued for the area. This week we explored more of Guadeloupe. We can't get enough of the clear, blue water and the beautiful landscapes! We explored the small towns, went to the fish market, went shopping and we hiked to the top of a rock! Also we decided to surprise Zach by flying his girlfriend over to us. We lied to him saying that Herve is leaving and took him to the airport. His reaction was priceless! Later Herve did actually have to leave, it was pretty sad to see him go. On Sunday we were able to go to a church which was quite far, but it's always a great experience. Excited to see what we get to do next! Enjoyed the video? Finalmente conseguimos alinhar as datas e sair para navegar, a bordo do veleiro Lumar. Um dia repleto de aventura e muito aprendizado náutico para as meninas. Durante todo o passeio elas foram descobrindo como funciona um veleiro e assim na prática aprenderam muitas coisas, se divertindo e aproveitando a vibe da vela. Nós partimos da Lagoa da Conceição, um lugar simplesmente deslumbrante e perfeito para a prática da vela. Com suas águas calmas e cristalinas, a lagoa é um verdadeiro paraíso para os amantes desse esporte. O passeio foi velejar até a costa da lagoa e depois fazer uma parada na praia do saquinho e arredores. Durante a velejada, as meninas puderam sentir a brisa no rosto e a sensação de liberdade que a vela proporciona. Elas também aprenderam sobre as técnicas e os equipamentos necessários para navegar com segurança. Foi uma experiência única e inesquecível para todas nós. No final do dia, de volta ao ponto de ancoragem do Lumar, tivemos um bate papo e um aulão de nós que foi show de bola! The very light winds and slow-going progress of the fleet instead tested patience and skills at keeping the boat moving on courses set initially around the island at 68 miles for Class A, 52 miles for Class B and 43 miles for Class C. After 6 hours of racing the race managers opted to shorten the courses at various locations around the island for all classes: the C class course was cut in half at 26.4 miles, B Class cut to 35.6 miles, and Class A cut to 39.5 miles.

We are awaiting my French Polynesia visa, preparing for the sail across the Pacific, dodging snakes, admiring the skill of the daily parade of Stand Up Paddle Boarders going past our yacht and helped a fellow yacht transit the Panama canal. I pulled an April Fools stunt on the crew, which caused much consternation since it involved delaying their flight back to South Africa. Panama City is a convenient place to prepare for our 5 week Pacific Crossing so not a bad place to be stuck waiting for a visa. David “Irish” Aikins and I are chomping at the bit to get sailing to the South Pacific islands, so hoping the visa comes through this week. We have the doldrums to get through so need to get moving!
