This is the ninth episode of many to come that is following the build, launching and sailing of "Glass Slipper." A Jim Antrim designed 40 foot offshore race boat that is being built on location at the Berkeley Marine Center in Berkeley California. The build process has taken 5 years and finally the boat is in the water and sailing! The video covers our 150 mile qualifier for this years Transpac race. We sailed from Pt. Richmond out the gate about 20 or so miles and then continued up the coast to Drakes Bay. We then sailed with the kite up down to Montara and then back up the coast to Drakes bay. We repeated this course about 3 times before finishing at the Berkeley Marina. This was our first overnight offshore sail. Big step in the process of dialing in the boating crew in preparation for Transpac. More episodes to come following our training and prep for this years Transpac Race.

** NOW SOLD ** ‘I Can’ is a 2001 Beneteau Oceanis Clipper 311. The 311 was designed as a swift, comfortable, and easy cruiser with impressive accommodation space. The 311’s share the hull design of the First 31.7’s but one main difference is their conservative draft of 1.45m – allowing for excellent access to shallower cruising grounds. Another key difference is the shaft drive diesel as opposed to the sail drive of the First. Down below we have that familiar quality real wood finish with curves throughout; something that’s so rare on modern production boats. There are two cabins, a practical galley with gas stove / oven and fridge, large saloon with folding dining table, plus the good sized fully enclosed head and shower. There is a shore power system, hot and cold water, deck shower, and electric anchor winch. Rigging is simple and sturdy. The headsail is on a furler and the main drops into a boom bag with lazy jacks. The cockpit (with full cushions) is protected by the dodger and bimini plus there is an infill. The helm seat lowers for easy walkthrough access. Electronics are by Raymarine and include a wheel auto-pilot and even the anchor winch can be controlled from the helm. This is a no-fuss, comfortable option that will bring on the smiles when sailing.

💔 We are incredibly sad about the collision that happened today between 11th Hour and Guyot. This is not the way you hope for a race to start, luckily no one was hurt and we will offer our support to both teams for any repair work they need to do. Team Malizia is on its way in the final leg of The Ocean Race, having departed this Thursday afternoon from The Hague, Netherlands. In a dramatic turn of events, GUYOT environnement - Team Europe and 11th Hour Racing Team collided during the inshore course at the beginning of the leg, causing significant damage to both boats. The team discuss the fact that there are currently only three boats left in the race and that it is a sad moment for them and the race to have this situation. Nico reflects that it effects him and for Boris as well that this incident has a profound impact on the racing and the teams left. All the team are speechless as they are missing their friends in the race. It is a lot to hope that they are back in the race - but still there is hope and Boris wishes them well in trying to achieve that. Anything can still happen! No one would have have thought Malizia won leg 3, 11th Hour could still win this Leg 7 - you never know in sailing! Join us for this weeks episode as we arrive in Palma to see Team Ineos' Americas Cup boat blasting around the bay before going on to watch my brother Elliot Hanson, an Olympian racing in his Laser class dinghy. We took Dad + Hannah (his partner) out on the boat to watch, which was a very special couple of days. After this we moved round the corner to Cala Xinxell where we watched a lot of anchor chaos unfold. A local charter boat with skipper on board proceeded to anchor in the protected Poisidonia (seagrass), and then drag anchor, killing literally hundreds of years of cumulative growth. The grass grows at 1 millimetre per year. Then another boat dragged onto our friends SV Arlequin, and then again onto Sailing Saffron (Chris + Amy). We then had to help them as their throttle box later broke and their boat was stuck in forward gear. We continue on our journey back to Darwin to drop off the new SV Peanut, and Magnus continues to experiment with cooking under the bonnet We check out the Great Australian Bight. We have a major blowout on a bridge and look everywhere but are unable to find a spare tyre. Luckily we carry two spares so we carry on without the extra spare. The roads are badly flooded but the land cruiser is built for the conditions and we finally get to Darwin where we unload the car, test out SV Peanut and begin the task of cleaning away the mould from Nutshell. We decide to remove as much extra stuff as we can from Nutshell because it’s our last opportunity to take stuff back to the farm for storage as our next task is to drive back to the farm to drop off the land cruiser. A major collision between 11th Hour Racing Team and GUYOT environnement Team Europe at the start of the final Leg 7 forced both teams to postpone racing and return to the dock in The Hague. Here's what happened. Both were badly damaged. The skipper of GUYOT admitted responsibility and the team withdrew from the leg. But for 11th Hour Racing Team who have been leading the race overall for the last two legs and were hoping take the overall win, the collision is a catastrophe. Shortly before the team left Aarhus on Leg 6 Matt Sheahan spoke to crew member Jack Boutell about what it takes to keep an IMOCA on the road. Little did anyone know what was to come.

Our first extended trip was a road trip in the US were we got to see over 20 states and ride 30.000 kilometers on our ECO Friendly Van. It was simply awesome and raised our awareness to the fact that we did not have to be tight down to a land home to continue to work and travel. Now, we’re on a sailing exploration journey attempting to circumnavigate the world aboard JOY. Patricia did not have any previous sailing experience, but was willing to learn on the fly. Now neither of us are too technical and know how to fix things too much, super rich or retired, but we always had big dreams.
