Romantically named and conceived – a dream come true for Cornwall-based boatbuilder and educator Luke Powell and many who worked on and followed this remarkable project – the replica Falmouth Pilot Cutter PELLEW is one of the most memorable boats we have seen. https://www.sandemanyachtcompany.co.uk/yacht/747/PELLEW She’s lucky to have been designed and built, as close as possible to the long lived VINCENT of 1852, by someone bold enough to do it and who really knows what works: as a traditional boat, and as a successful charter vessel. PELLEW has already been very well tested, and has youth, size, and volume very much on her side – as well, of course, as incredible and unique good looks.

Propellors on sailboats are doubly important. You need your prop to give you the maximum efficient thrust, both forward and reverse. But you also need it to not compromise your sailing ability by inflicting too much drag. So should you pick a standard fixed propellor, a folding propellor or a feathering propellor? They all have specific advantages and some major disadvantages so it pays to do your homework and learn a few technical aspects of how these propellors perform. In this video we go through ass the technical aspects, skew and pitch, talk about drag and the importance of the leading edge. If like us you have a long keeled boat then having a propellor that has good grip in reverse is key to being able to manoeuvre well so we will talk about what you need to achieve that. We made a change from a MaxProp ( which we think is a very good prop ) to a Bruntons Autoprop which so far seem to be an even better prop so if you're looking for a new prop then definitely check out the Bruntons site here: https://bruntonspropellers.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ PLEASE DO SUBSCRIBE - IT COSTS YOU NOTHING AND HELPS US OUT WITH THE YOUTUBE ALGORITHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PATREON: We couldn't make these videos without the support of you, our patrons. ► The Bordeaux-based shipyard took advantage of its annual “Lagoon Exclusive Days” event to unveil a world preview of its new flagship motor yacht, set to replace the Seventy 8. ► While the newcomer borrows a few elements such as the forward and central sections of the hulls, that’s pretty much it: the hulls have a much higher freeboard, the deck is completely new, as is the interior. The yard’s aim is to take the high-end approach even further with more volume, even better ease of moving around on board, special attention paid to the crew quarters, and above all, the possibility of maximum customization for each unit. Like the Lagoon Eighty 2, this boat’s sailing version twin that we’re testing in our next issue, the Lagoon Eighty 3 remains a production multiyacht, but the yard is clearly moving closer to the idea of pure customization. ► The new model obviously retains the fold-down platform in the owner’s suite on the starboard side, a veritable private terrace just over the water. On board, we were surprised by the unprecedented width of the side-decks that are very secure thanks to raised bulwarks and stainless-steel handrails. Hull #1 reveals a tasteful superyacht touch with its metallic turquoise coachroof and black hardtop. Inside this 4-cabin + 2-crew version, there are also dark marble tops and glass panels - showing the codes of luxury multipowers. ► Technical Specifications: Builder: Lagoon Architect: VPLP Length overall: 80’1” (24.4 m) Hull length: 78’5” (23.91 m) Maximum beam: 36’1” (11 m) Draft: 4’2” (1.27 m) Displacement: 68.5 t Motors: 2 x 580 HP Fuel: 2,245 US gal (8,500 l) Water: 420 US gal Cabins: 4 to 6 Berths: 8 to 16 CE Category: A14/B18/C24/D40 Price: Approx. € 8,500,000 ex-tax ► Sign up for our newsletter and win a free two-month subscription to Multihulls World by clicking here: https://bit.ly/48JP1Vk ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 600 multihulls tests! Cris & Cristina VitaInVela ASD ⛵

Leaving Georgetown in the Exumas, I continue my solo sailing journey aboard Mirage, heading southeast toward three historic islands first visited during Christopher Columbus’ first voyage — San Salvador, Rum Cay, and Conception Island. It was a perfect sailing day - sunshine, steady trade winds blowing 20–25+ knots, and a beautiful downwind course at about 120° true wind. My original plan was to reach Rum Cay first, but offshore sailing often means adapting to the wind. After passing the southern tip of Long Island it became clear that the wind would not cooperate, so I followed the breeze and changed course toward Conception Island instead. That decision turned out to be incredible! Conception Island is completely uninhabited, with crystal-clear water and untouched beaches - one of the most peaceful anchorages I've ever visited. In the evening I shared some stories about Columbus' voyage while sitting on the transom at sunset. The next morning brought a true ocean passage: A straight downwind sail to Rum Cay, with bigger waves now that Mirage was no longer protected by the upwind islands. It was an awesome sail and incredible solitude - just the boat, the ocean, and the wind. Day 4 of the JJ Giltinan 18ft Skiff World Championship, presented by The Winning Group, was a far better day for the 27-boat fleet when a perfect North East breeze, on Sydney Harbour today, replaced the extremely light conditions which forced the postponement of one race on Day 3 of the championship. The racing was spectacular in the 15-18 knots NE wind and victory results were split in the two races, although the defending champion still holds the overall lead despite not scoring a win today. In the opening race (Race 4) Shaw and Partners Financial Services-Australia (Keagan York, Max Paul and Tom Anderson) led for most of the race to score a 39s victory over the defending champion, Yandoo (John Winning Jr, Fang Warren and Lewis Brake), with Queensland’s GC Sails (Scott Cunningham, Joel Turner and Dave Cunningham) just another 3s back in third place with a torn spinnaker. The second of today’s races was sailed in identical conditions and this time the honours went to the Lazrus Capital Partners team of Tom Cunich, Marc Chapon and Tim Westwood who scored a brilliant 6s victory over a fast-finishing Yandoo, with Germany’s Black Knight (Heinrich von Bayern, Tom Martin and Andy Martin) just 5s behind in third place. With four more races still to be sailed in the championship and discarding of each boat’s worst performance yet to be brought into play, Yandoo leads the scoring with a five race total of 13 points. Fellow NSW team, Shaw and Partners-Australia holds second place with a total of 19 points. Each team has a worst score of 7th placing so any discard at this point will not change Yandoo’s overall six points lead. GC Sails is presently in third place on 33 points, followed by Black Knight on 37, New Zealand’s consistent ASCC (Campbell Stanton) on 39, Smeg (Ash Rooklyn), Rag & Famish Hotel (Ben Crafoord) on 46, Vaikobi Kirk Mitchell) on 50, Sixt (Jacob Marks) and New Zealand’s Shaw and Partners (Eli Liefting) both on 55 and today’s race winner Lazarus on 58 points. A number of those boats and others outside that list have very large discards in their totals and the table could look quite different after tomorrow’s two races. Race 4: Yandoo, Shaw and Partners-Australia and Vaikobi were well placed at the boat end of the start line and when the fleet tacked after the beat into Taylors Bay, it was Vaikobi which held a narrow lead over a tightly bunched group. The beat to the weather mark past Nielsen Park was spectacular in the NE wind with many teams in contention behind Shaw and Partners-Aust, which had raced to the lead with great boat speed in the conditions. Shaw and Partners turned with a 10s advantage over GC Sails, followed by Vaikobi, Shaw and Partners-NZ, and a group including Black Knight, Smeg and ASCC. Sixt was next, followed by Yandoo which had just completed a penalty turn for an apparent infringement. Shaw and Partners-Aust led the spinnaker run into Taylors Bay and, despite having to avoid harbour traffic, raced to the bottom gates where she held a 12s lead over GC Sails, Vaikobi, Shaw and Partners-NZ, Black Knight, ASCC, Smeg, Sixt and Yandoo, which went to the opposite gate to the leading group. Shaw and Partners’ crew work was excellent on the second beat and the team increased the lead over GC Sails to 30s as spinnakers were set for the run to the finish. Yandoo had recovered brilliantly after the first lap and was now in third place and challenging GC Sails. While Shaw and Partners’ victory was never in doubt, the race between GC Sails and Yandoo was brilliant as the pair raced almost alongside each other to the finish line where Yandoo got the verdict by 3s. Unfortunately GC Sails suffered a torn spinnaker just before the finish line which obviously made the team’s task too difficult against the champion Yandoo crew. Race 5: Black Knight was prominent in the middle of the line at the start with Yandoo and Shaw and Partners-Aust electing to start at the boat end and Lazarus was the leader at the pin end. On the long tack across the harbour to Taylors Bay, the fleet was spread wide as several teams had elected to tack early. Lazarus was in the lead on the LHS closely followed by Andoo-USA (Mikey Radziejowski) with ASCC also in contention. The Lazarus crew were sailing perfectly and held a clear 20s lead over Andoo-USA, ASCC, Sixt, Black Knight, Yandoo and Shaw and Partners-NZ. Lazarus was just as impressive on the run to the bottom set of gates and, despite a strong challenge by Black Knight, maintained a handy margin as the crew set off for the final beat to the weather mark. The chasing pack could make little time up on Lazarus although Yandoo was starting to make a move which got her into second place, within 10s of the leader. Again, the run to the finish was another thriller as Lazarus raced at high speed just ahead of Yandoo and Black Knight to a 6s victory. Why Folded Steel Sailboats Make Sense

Here's a highlights from the Sydney Multihull Regatta with a great turn up of 15 multihulls including both a fleet of Seawinds, plus a mix of other boats. Despite testing variable conditions we enjoyed some very close racing with much of the fleet just 30 seconds apart on the finish line on race 1. Supported by Seawind Catamarans, Multihull Central in conjunction with the Multihull Cruising Yacht Club Inc. hosted the Sydney Multihull Regatta. We look forward to next year’s regatta and hope to see many more multihulls with us to join in on the fun.

Was darf auf keinen Fall passieren? Also brauchst du Rhythmus und Systeme. Kurz rausgucken. Rundumblick. Wiederholen. It’s pure adrenaline carrying us for the last day of this hardstand project! It’s been 82 days since we bought this 57ft Kelsall Catamaran at auction - abandoned, derelict and full of potential! We’ve completed a mountain of work, learning new skills and nurtured new friendships. This week we have some much needed backup with the support of friends as we push to finish our wet exhaust systems and test run the motors with them, sort out our props, get our anchor and chain on the boat plus install the final thru hulls and valves! It’s a tight deadline and we are flogged from a week of late nights and big days but we are closer than we have ever been to success and the safety of launching the boat and not going broke on hardstand fees. Let’s do this together! Cheers, Josh!!! _____________________________________________________________________________ PATREON: https://www.patreon.com/TheNewKidsOnTheDock PAYPAL: https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=KNLJDGDXPAYAU WISHLIST: https://www.myregistry.com/wishlist/josh-and-phoebe-coomera-queensland/5046646 _____________________________________________________________________________ We would like to acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land and seas which we work, play and live on: the Kombumerri peoples. INSIDE GREAT LAKES SAILING SEASON SEVEN SHOW NO. 153 - For the third show of the season, we get off 2026 with a big bang as sailing icon Peter Harken joins us with his wife, Dr. Edit Olasz, the inventor of a great sunscreen, HarkenDerm, to converse about his career, the value of the Midwest work force and how he met his wife. So interviewing a sailing icon should be enough for our little show, but we push ahead. Our expert sailor Wally Cross joins to outline the best way to find cremates at all levels and we embark on what could be the biggest sailing story since Dennis Conner lost the America's Cup. John Sweeney, an AC veteran, world champion and one of the best sailors this country has produced, joins us to talk about his complaint filed with the New York Attorney's General office about the AC Deed of Gift, which is the organizing document that has guided the America's Cup organizers since 1857. Sweeney does not believe the Cup competition has been operated the way the Deed of Gift is written in more than two decades and he's asking the New York AG to weigh in on his complaint. The New York courts oversee the infamous sailing trust managed by the New York Yacht Club. We chat with Sweeney after conversations with a few folks in the AG's office in Albany, New York, a couple of knowledgable folks who reside in Auckland and Sailing Illustrated's Tom Ehman, a gentleman who over saw a number of Cups during his AC reign of more than 25 years. Right or wrong, left or right, Sweeney makes a powerful point during this interview and IGLS knows that's accurate because a few media types around the country have already began to challenge Sweeney's findings or complain that the America's Cup has no relevance. The critics might be right, or they might be wrong, but if John Sweeney's legal actions have the desired result he is hoping for in the near future, we're talking a real game changer with a storyline that will easily make the ESPN SportsCenter highlights, so stay tuned and see what's what.

Kamangnene celebrates the rice harvest in Casamance. It's when locals must welcome people at their homes and offer them food and drinks. Then in the evening folks gather in forest clearings to watch boys and men wrestles and newlyweds are presented. These are celebrations of the Diola people who live in this region of Senegal. The exact date of this annual festival is not known to anyone but the king a week before it takes place. Luck or timing for us could not have been better. Who knew about this. Not even Mana. We are well fed and drunk on palm wine. Perfect to stroll through the forest on ancient paths to the boisterous clearing. There are newlyweds and wrestlers on display. Let the music and fights begin. Welcome back to another episode of WE|Sail. In this video, we're sharing the 5 must-have systems on our catamaran that keep us safe, self-sufficient, and sane while cruising remote anchorages. From navigating coral-filled passes in zero visibility to preventing those stressful anchoring moments (you know the ones!), these are the game-changers that make offshore cruising not just possible, but enjoyable. After seven years of living on our sailboat full time and sailing over 30,000 nautical miles—from the Caribbean, through the Panama Canal, up the Pacific coast of Mexico, across the South Pacific, and now exploring Fiji—we've learned what gear is essential and what just takes up space. What we cover: ✅ Our complete ground tackle system + the camera that saved our relationship ✅ How OpenCPN changed everything for reef navigation ✅ Why autopilot is our most valuable "crew member" (honorable mention) ✅ Living off-grid with watermakers (rain water collection) and solar ✅ Sail Wardrobe- why we have an arsenal of cloth Whether you're outfitting a boat for cruising or already out here, this is what 7 years of real-world experience has taught us actually matters. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ⚓ Thanks for watching!
