This is the first video of my new series where I show you guys how I spec up different lines. In this video I start out with a fun challenging project, building up Runner Tails for a TP 52. Im using Marlow Ropes MGP PBO/Vectran blended cover with a dyneema D-12 78 core. I use Kingfish Mafioli Dyneema chafe sleeve at the splice and the first 13' and then I finish it up with a light weight Kingfisher mafioli Swiftcord tail. There are many ways how to do this, this is how I build my runners for a boat of this caliber. As well I am a trained and certified rigger, so just because you watched my video does not make your certified or trained. Enjoy the video and shoot me a comment if you have questions or suggestions for my next video in this series.

After Hospital Delays, Cold Weather, and Missed Windows, we finally point the bow south… after hospital delays, cold snaps, and way too much staring at weather models. ❄️⛵️ This leg takes us from York River Yacht Haven in Gloucester, VA down to Wrightsville Beach, NC, with all the nerves that come from leaving the Chesapeake and thinking very hard about Cape Hatteras. From missed weather windows to second-guessing every decision, this is one of those passages where the mental game is just as intense as the sailing. Will the weather cooperate? Will Hatteras behave? Will we ever stop refreshing Windy? Spoiler: we leave anyway. If you’ve ever delayed a departure “just one more day,” worried about rounding a cape, or wondered why sailors talk about weather like it’s a personal enemy — this one’s for you. #ColdWeatherSailing #SailingAnxiety #ChesapeakeBay #CapeHatteras

If sailing were a game, this is where it would begin. You’d start by naming your character. Selecting a language. And then you’d spawn alongside in a French coastal harbour — boat loaded with history, unfinished systems, hard choices, and a single objective: get ready to cross an ocean. In this video I’m alongside in Cherbourg, berth one, and it feels exactly like that moment. Today the “intro cutscene'. I talk through the real mechanics behind this campaign — the mainsail with five reefs, why its geometry matters, and how far the sail plan has already evolved. I touch on the Global Solo Challenge, the sacrifices that brought me here, and why getting to this point has been anything but straightforward. This isn’t theory or armchair sailing. It’s real-world problem solving: weather, systems, structure, money, fatigue, and decisions that actually matter. Cherbourg has opened up possibilities I didn’t expect, and suddenly the game board looks different. The character is loaded. Let’s begin play. In this video, I break down why this question matters so much for beginner sailors, and why I ultimately decided on a monohull over a performance catamaran. We'll discuss: The catamaran vs monohull debate from a safety perspective Why feeling "too confident" on a boat can be dangerous How monohulls communicate warnings vs catamarans My journey from wanting a performance cat to choosing a monohull Why being careful beats being confident when you're starting out Shoutout to Adventure Man Dan, Sailing Songbird, Garrett's Adventures, and The Good Pirate (Baden Lesueur) for inspiring this journey! It was like getting hit by 1000 little bricks. we had been told 90 km of wind was going to hit us, we though we were ready. Leaving Dominica was a bit sad, but we had to lock in right away when a boat ahead of us told us that 50 knot winds were coming it turns out the gust that hit us was 67 knots and it was worse then we thought. Filming had to take a back seat and we had to hold everything down, it only lasted for a short time but it was nuts! SEVERE GALE FORCE 9 APPROACHING. Running for shelter sailing in Arctic waters, we do everything we can to prepare Florence to survive the gale but is it enough? Dealing with bad weather when cruising in an area which is new to us is very different to when sailing in home waters we know (we rarely sail in waters we already know). Here we share some of our thinking and how we are continually re-evaluating where is the best place to weather a gale and the preparations we make to keep us and Florence safe in bad weather. Oh and we enjoy some spectacular sailing and scenery as well which makes it all worth it! :-) For our real time location tracker and extra content, join the crew at www.patreon.com/SailingYachtFlorence We have sailed over 60,000 ocean miles around the world including a complete circumnavigation on our 37ft boat, Florence. After 9 years of experience sailing in the tropics, this series presents a new challenge and a chance to learn new skills as we sail north to the Arctic. Join us as we share the highs, lows, and challenges of travelling around the world by boat, sailing offshore across oceans and exploring remote locations. #sailing #boatlife #boatlifestyle #sailingboat #SevereGale #circumnavigation #sailingyachtflorence #yachtlifestyle #syflorence #sailingaroundtheworld #ArcticSailing #norwaytravel 00:00 – Introduction 01:17 – Sailing Norway's Arctic coast 07:22 – Gale warnings 09:22 - Third reef in the mainsail 10:22 – Seeking Safe harbour 14:32 – Hoisting Storm Jib 16:23 – How we chose storm anchorage 21:55 – Next Time Music in order as played: Be Epic - www.hooksounds.com – Licenced The Greatest Destiny - www.hooksounds.com – Licenced Unit Echo - www.hooksounds.com – Licenced Tropical Mist - www.hooksounds.com – Licenced Warrior Sound - www.hooksounds.com – Licenced The M Cave - www.hooksounds.com – Licenced Morning Fog - www.hooksounds.com – Licenced
