► We’ve just received a couple of hatch blinds from Dometic, a leading creator of innovative products for boats and RVs, along with equipment for the outdoor market. Graham will be putting them to the test on his catamaran very soon. ► One is a Skyscreen Roller Surface blind. This is a unique combined flyscreen and blackout blind. The flyscreen allows for an airy yet mosquito-free environment, which should make for undisturbed sleep – something Graham is looking forward to since receiving an email last week from the marina warning of increased cases of dengue fever. The blackout section is obviously great for nights spent in highly lit marinas or at anchor when there’s a full moon, but also when passage-making to enable the off-watch crew to get proper sleep in the daytime. Both sections of the blind slide securely shut with a magnetic closure, as can be seen in the photo, showing each part closed just halfway. ► The other blind is a Portshade - an ultra slim cassette roller blind which is ideal for portlights, particularly where space is limited. Its versatile design allows for top or face fixing, and it is also suitable for mounting on curved surfaces. The fabric rolls neatly into the elegant aluminum cassette, maintaining a stylish and discrete look. ► All Dometic blinds are available in several sizes, including specific models for Lewmar hatches, and there is a choice of colors. This is a really cool old boat that has been lovingly taken care of it’s whole life. This boat has had a new transom, motor mounts and stringers in 2015 or so, and also had a new leg around the same time. The motor block was replaced in the early 90s and there’s roughly 1200 hours on the Mercruiser 288 5.0L V8 motor currently. Grew boats were made in Canada! This will give you all the retro boating vives you could want. I feel like you can truly relax out there without any modern amenities to take your mind away from being on the water in peace. There’s a large teak swim platform with a 3 step fold out boarding ladder. The covers are in good shape and the upholstery has also been updated. There has been a trim tab system installed as well which adds to the already premium ride quality of the deep V hull. This boat has been run up by our shop and lake tested and works well. This was the final stop of Christopher Columbus before his legendary voyage to the Americas. This time, we leave the marina behind and explore the quieter north side of the harbor. From the beach and its unique rock viewpoint towers, we wander through cozy streets and up into the hillside neighborhoods. Along the way, we discover the beautiful Parador Hotel, perched above the harbor with lush gardens and classic Canarian architecture—white-washed walls, dark wooden balconies, and peaceful courtyards. Day 5. Back to working on the engine. I was trying to charge the batteries during the night when something went wrong. Looking back, I had let them get too low before charging, so that part is on me. Still… not exactly what you want to be dealing with. And of course, it happened in the middle of the night. I managed to fix it for the moment and get some charge back into the batteries, enough to get through the night and deal with it properly in daylight. The next day, another issue showed up. But this time, I was working on it in daylight for a change, which already made everything feel a lot more manageable. With some help from my very good (and very patient) online community, I worked through it step by step. And now… everything is charging properly again. Back on track. Hopefully it stays that way so I can keep the livestream running without interruptions. I’m also starting to feel better physically, which is a big relief. Not fully there yet, but definitely improving. And through all of this, the sailing has actually been kind to us. Comfortable conditions, steady movement, nothing too demanding.
