Next up we set up a mock test for my pole system that should hopefully remove a lot of the poles we need on the boat. We test the design here and see if it's feasible. Cruce a Colonia desde el Club Náutico Albatros hasta el Puerto Deportivo de Colonia del Sacramento el 1 de Mayo de 2024, las condiciones meteorológicas eran de Viento SSE que comenzó en 14 Kts y fue aumentando hasta los 23 Kts con rachas de 28 Kts. Si bien hubo que hacer un par de bordes al superar el espeque de aguas seguras del canal costanero, una vez alcanzado el Norma Mabel (Olivos), ese borde nos permitió llegar a Colonia a pesar de ir muy de ceñida todo el tramo.

Was als Aufbruch beginnt, wird schnell zur Frage: Sind wir wirklich bereit dafür? ⸻ 📍 Startpunkt & Plan Wir starten in Santa Maria Navarrese auf Sardinien. Nach über vier Wochen im Hafen sind wir endlich startklar. Kurz vor dem Ablegen kommen die Pakete an, auf die wir warten mussten: Ersatzteile, Technik – und verspätete Weihnachtsgeschenke für die Kinder. Mana and I are invited to Jean Philippe's place where he offers fresh wild mangrove oysters charbroiled and laid out on his oyster bar. We shuck and suck the delicacies with a drop of lemon from trees in his yard. The huge sound system is playing warm African grooves from local artist Charlemagne who's with us sipping on palm wine. We live four seasons aboard our sailboat in Alaska, and this episode follows a real cruising stretch through Southeast Alaska’s Inside Passage. We start by making our way toward Warm Springs Bay on Baranof Island, running through big Southeast Alaska water, strong currents, shifting light, and the kind of weather window you appreciate. From Portage Bay, past Admiralty Island, across Chatham Strait, and into Warm Springs, this is the rhythm of cruising Alaska by boat. After a stop at Warm Springs, we continue on toward Kake, Alaska, where boat life meets small-town Southeast Alaska culture. We walk the harbor, look at a. job and visit with the locals (not filmed), and experience what it means to move through these communities by water. Atz Kilcher is aboard with us for this stretch, and somewhere along the way he gives Scott the perfect title: a “circuit sailor” traveling town to town, helping people, making friends, taking photographs, fixing things, and living connected to the places we pass through. This is not polished marina cruising. This is real Alaska liveaboard life: reading currents, cooking dinner underway, arriving in the dark, waking up in new harbors, meeting people, and continuing toward Rocky Pass. Unser Segelboot Squib, ein Catalac 9M, ist in die Jahre gekommen, die Verkleidung hängt teilweise von der Decke, die Farbe blättert ab, die Elektrik auf dem Stand des vorigen Jahrtausends,..... Ein Refit steht an. Doch Broterwerb und Verpflichtungen lassen es nicht zu, monatelang in Griechenland am Boot zu arbeiten. Da wird schon 2018 die Idee geboren Squib nach Wien zu bringen, wo man jederzeit Zugang hat, der Einkauf von Material in der Muttersprache abgewickelt werden kann und alles Andere seinen gewohnten Verlauf nimmt. 2021 war es dann endlich soweit, mit zwei komplett überholten Motoren und einem neuen Geräteträger starteten wir Anfang Juli Richtung Südfrankreich.Leider hatten wir für die gesamte Reise nur zwei Monate Zeit, deswegen hieß es die meiste Zeit Strecke machen. Doch manchmal nahmen wir uns die Zeit zu verweilen, uns Orte näher anzuschauen. Seitdem lag Squib in der Wiener Kuchelau, und der Refit hatte begonnen. Am 17 August 2025 ist es wieder so weit. Obwohl Squib noch nicht ganz fertig ist, werfen wir die Leinen los und starten unsere erste Etappe donauabwärts. Dreieinhalb Wochen später erreichen wir das Donaudelta, der Mast wird gestellt, ein passendes Wetterfenster abgewartet, in zwei Sclägen überqueren wir das Schwarze Meer bis zum Bosporus. Ohne Einzuklarieren mit gehisster Q Flagge durchqueren wir die Türkei und erreichen 5 Tage später die Ägäis. Über Limnos und die nördlichen Sporaden segeln wir bis in den Großraum Athen, von wo aus Sabina nach Hause fliegt, weil ihr Urlaub zu Ende ist. Join me aboard Mirage for a beautiful solo sailing passage from Eleuthera to Lynyard Cay in the Abacos, Bahamas. With the Code 0 flying all the way and Mirage mostly on a close reach, this turned into a fast and exciting adventure across the crystal-clear waters of the Bahamas. Even after more than six months in the water, with the hull carrying a thick layer of marine growth, Mirage still sailed strong and fast. The weather was sunny, the sea was gorgeous, and the passage reminded me why solo sailing can be so rewarding. In this video, I also share my sailing experience around Eleuthera - the anchorages, the conditions, and what it felt like exploring one of the most beautiful islands in the Bahamas. Once seen, it is easy to understand the passion of "umbraphiles" who travel the world to witness this mystical, astronomical event. At Green Island, in the direct path of the eclipse, visitors had front row, uninterrupted viewing for the duration. Dennis Mammana, Night Sky Photographer and Astronomer said on Green Island, "Total eclipses are unlike anything else on this planet. You experience one and it's totally addictive, this is my 14th. It was just superb, beautiful, one of the best..." Seth Shostak, Senior Astronomer Seti Institute in California said enthusiastically, "It's generally said that God put all the interesting astronomy in the southern hemisphere and all the astronomers in the northern hemisphere. Well this time again he has favoured the southern hemisphere! This was a fantastic eclipse... truly incredible." In addition to Green Island, visitors joined a special early morning Wavedancer cruise from Port Douglas while Pro Dive Cairns' special eclipse liveaboard experience combined this special event with some spectacular scuba diving on Australia's Great Barrier Reef.
