After months of waiting, my brand new Island Spirit catamaran has finally made it from the factory to the marina! The boat was trucked 38 kilometers down the road, and now the real work begins. In this episode, we watch the crew carefully unload the yacht from the truck, move it into position at the marina, glue the keels into place with hydraulic presses, step the mast with a crane, and lift the hardtop into place. These are some of the biggest and most stressful steps before the boat can finally go in the water. We cross the Sale River at spring high tide to reach the freshwater rock bar. Troy enjoys some incredible fishing landing 2 barramundi, 2 mangrove jacks and a thread fin salmon throughout our stay. E' stato lanciato negli Stati Uniti, in occasione del Miami Boat Show 2017, ma viene costruito in Turchia. German Frers è un grande architetto navale argentino. Ha iniziato la sua attività 60 anni fa e con suo figlio e il suo team ha disegnato oltre 1000 yacht, dai super yacht alle imbarcazioni a vela da crociera e da regata, molte delle quali vincenti. Tommaso Spadolini ha posto la sua firma su oltre 250 yacht in più di 30 anni di lavoro. Non è solo un designer ma un vero appassionato di mare e yacht e non sacrifica gli aspetti tecnici di una barca a favore dello stile, ma amalgama questi concetti. Sirena 56 è lungo 18,68 m e largo 5,35 m, pesa 26 tonnellate a secco con i motori più potenti, due unità Caterpillar da 850 cv, realizzate sulla base del motore da 12,9 litri di Fiat Powertrain Technologies. La potenza è notevolmente superiore rispetto alle concorrenti, ma si può scendere a 650 cavalli. Lo scafo è un semi-dislocante cioè è capace di navigare in dislocamento e in planata. E' costruita in sandwich con infusione di resina vinilestere sottovuoto. La sovrastruttura è addirittura di fibra di carbonio, quindi leggerissima, per minimizzare l'influenza negativa del peso nella parte superiore della barca. Il flying bridge riunisce, in uno spazio coerente con lo stile e il profilo dello yacht, tutto ciò che può essere piacevole e utile: living, mobile bar, sdraio e postazione di comando. All'ingresso del salone, c'è la cucina, da cui si servono con la stessa comodità la zona pranzo esterna e quella interna, arredata con due grandi divani. La cabina centrale è larghissima, a tutto baglio su uno scafo da 5,35 metri; ci sono armadi, cassettiere, vanity e tanto spazio attorno al letto. Ma la vera differenza con le concorrenti è data dalla cabina armatoriale. E' collocata a prua, ha altezza e ariosità introvabili, ma soprattutto ha un passaggio privato verso il ponte di prua. With Nandji on the hard stand, it is time to get this old engine off our boat! Good Riddance Old Smoky! https://www.sailingnandji.com In this episode of Sailing Nandji, with Nandji firmly set on the hard stand our boat refit begins. After having so many troubles with our old engine in the past, this was the first job tackled, ripping out the old engine. Nandji is a centre cockpit vessel and the engine is directly below the cockpit, making the obvious choice for removal through the cockpit, hence cutting a hole in the floor. We plan to overhaul the entire engine compartment and everything to do with the old engine. New drive system including gearbox, new exhaust system and new fuel system, including the fuel tank itself. The old fuel tank was made out of steel and had become rusty and no doubt close to leaking, time to fix everything and get this old stuff of our boat. With some clever rigging techniques, steadily the old fuel tank and our old engine "Old Smoky" are removed and taken away. We are a young couple with a dog, who with no sailing experience, bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing around the Pacific! We have just sailed 2000nm through Indonesia and have arrived to Malaysia to complete major boat work, ready for the next big adventure. We departed Australia 18 months ago and have since explored some amazing countries, met some beautiful people and experienced different cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our life doing it! We get hit by a HUGE thunder storm in the middle of the night and catch it on camera. In pitch black darkness and torrential rain we have to dodge through a fleet of fishing boats and avoid collisions with cargo ships. In this episode we show you what it is like to sail at night in a thunder storm. Thunder storms are the norm here in the Malacca straits but they can be very scary with the risk of being struck by lightning. Here we also have the risk of being hit by another boat and run down by a cargo ship as well. @boatfools #sailboatforsale #sailing #sailboat **She has just SOLD!** This SAILBOAT is a STEAL! Well, at $6,000 it certainly feels like a steal. Canadian Ken and I were very apprehensive when we went to explore this 1968 Bristol 33 - she'd been on the hard for 8 years, under plastic shrink wrap, in a boatyard. She was designed by Halsey Chase Herreshoff, the grandson of the late, great Nathanael Herreshoff, and it is downright huge when compared to her little sister, the Bristol 32 (one of my all-time favorites, in terms of design). Only a foot and a half longer with her LOA, she is a full 4 feet longer on her LWL, and 3/4 of a foot wider at the beam. With her fin keel, spade rudder, and a comfort ratio over 30, she will be an excellent coastal cruiser for a single, couple, or small family. Expecting the worst, we actually were met with the opposite. The previous owners had completed many, many upgrades over the years - and some substantial ones circa 2014. They then moved to Florida and donated the sailboat to the Maine Island Trail Association which, in turn, sold it to the current owner just before COVID-19 broke out. The current owner's dream of moving to Maine didn't come to fruition and the boat has sat in the boatyard since. BUT, in 2014 she was re-powered with a Beta Marine diesel, received new standing rigging, and many other upgrades. She has a main and a genoa and is ready to go. The engine has a 1,000 hours or less on it (our guess is this number is significantly less) and has been yard maintained over the years. So, for $6,000 you could be on your way on your very own sailboat. She definitely needs a good scrub and some bottom paint, but if everything checks out, this could be the deal of the century! Can we lift up this beast of a boat with just the two of us? For the past two years of the build, our boat has been sitting on the forms which came with the kit from Vietnam. But this week, we lift up the catamaran to switch our our plywood forms for foam blocks, and we do it without any outside help!! After two years now of accumulating tool and scrap pieces of foam, we first have to do a thorough cleaning underneath the hull to make room for ourselves to work. Then we bring out the laser to mark where the hull is currently sitting, before we get to lifting it up. It isn't an uncommon thing for catamarans to rest in foam blocks instead of jackstangs, ask our friend Matt with his Gunboat, but what most people do not have to deal for short hauls or storage is keeping the boat perfectly level. And while we've already build out most of our interior, we still want it to come back down exactly where she had been sitting before. So after a full day of cleaning, jacking, and adding and then removing shims underneath the foam, we THINK we have it good enough to move on.
