So excited to get back sailing!! BUT when you live on a sailboat things change by the minute. Right now we are starting to get a very early hurricane season, which has started to throw some wrenches in our sailing plans. We are afraid of this. The storms brewing of the coast of Africa are pushing our boundaries of safely sailing to our next anchorages. This is the life of living on a sailboat. big love, beau, brandy, and our salty dog, oona #sailboatlife #avoidingstorms #stcroix --------------------------------------------------------------------------- -HELP SUPPORT THE PRODUCTION- Join our Patreon: http://bit.ly/BB-Patreon One time Donation: http://bit.ly/one-time-donation-bb Be sure you are Subscribed: https://www.youtube.com/c/sailingsaoirse -GRAB YOUR SWAG- https://www.bonfire.com/store/beau-and-brandy-sailing/ -MUSIC- Epidemic Sound is where we find all of our music. 30 day free trial: https://www.epidemicsound.com/referral/mxtzxe/ -LETS BE SOCIAL- Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/beauandbrandy Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sailingsaoirse -OUR GEAR WE- main camera: https://amzn.to/2lm2bSY go pro camera: https://amzn.to/2JMXRoa backup camera: https://amzn.to/2l8e3ry electric setup*: controller: https://amzn.to/2lm7hP7 panels: https://amzn.to/2jUoONN electric motor: https://amzn.to/2ZnLfvN motor controller: https://amzn.to/3getpSw ____________________________________ *This channel is a participant in the Amazon Affiliate Program. Thanks for watching! If you want to know more about my journey, I have more info on www.SailingArtha.com. I’m so grateful for my patrons and those who have bought off my wishlist or sent a gift via PayPal. Your support goes a long way in helping me continue to share my adventures. P.S. today is my birthday There’s a tiny but recovering town in the Ragged Islands called Duncan Town. They were destroyed by Hurricane Irma in 2017. It was amazing to walk through the construction and meet some of the workers, and go on an amazing tour of the green energy site. We ended up going back a second time to fuel up and get pizza at the Lodge (I didn’t get to record this). Hope you enjoy!

This film gives a unique insight into an important environmental issue: the transfer of harmful organisms in ships' ballast water. Filmed by the internationally renowned BBC Wildvision, this amazing story looks at how this phenomenon is affecting our coasts and millions of lives around the world and the measures taken by the global community to fight against these alien stowaways.

Whilst their name is usually associated with yachts such as "Maltese Falcon", "Perseus 3", and "Baracuda" many yachting enthusiasts are not aware that they also offered a wonderful selection of superyachts under the Perini Navi brand. In this episode . . It's my turn to get rescued! Engine on the dinghy goes down opposite some nasty reefs in high wind and seas off the island of Aruba in the Caribbean, I face putting the boat on a concrete boat jetty and damaging 'Shadow', spend two weeks aboard in rough weather, fix a winch and eat some Burger and Chicken!! Thank you for watching this episode, please give us a thumbs up and subscribe. On Facebook our page is ‘Adventures of an old Seadog’ and there you can find ‘realtime’ up-dates and news. Facebook https://www.facebook.com/adventuresofanoldseadog/ If you’d like to help the Old Seadog Please checkout our Patreon page on the link below. https://www.patreon.com/Adventuresofanoldseadog Contributions to the project can be made at paypal.me/seadogadventures Twitter https://twitter.com/barryperrins Thanks so much for your support, The adventure continues. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘blar bar mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. As we head off into the high arctic, this is the first leg of our trip to Svalbard. Being a 32 year old boat much of the original gear onboard is starting to break. After breaking two blocks it was time for an update on the deck gear. Being in Mexico for a while we finally had the time to get the job done! We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat Ran, a custom built Beason 40 in aluminium and untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter in January 2016. There is no set route and we will go where the wind and our minds take us. After two years living and traveling full time on our floating home, if you ask us what we miss the most when we move to the next island, for sure the first thing that comes to mind are the friendships we cultivated along the way. So, it is really special when we have the opportunity to meet old friends again almost 4 thousand miles from the last port we met. This week we enjoyed a little bit more the Caribbean waters, we sailed from Carriacou to Bequia (in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines) and also to Martinique. Friends in this episode: @ChicamaSailing @VeleiroLiberdade We are Duca and Roberta, a Brazilian couple that during a sabbatical trip in 2016 decided to follow our dream. So, we created "Odd Life Crafting", a project composed of many smaller projects that we call seasons. The first one was the creation of Odd Life Crafting. The idea was to build a metal boat to be able to travel the world taking our house with us, but we didn't have money for that. So, we started the next season: we built a tiny shipping container house with no prior experience in building to gain some skills to build a boat. When we were almost finished we found a boat 700km away from our hometown that was neglected for over 22 years and we spent 2 years refitting her (Season 3). The last season has been a dream coming true… we are exploring the Brazilian coast with OUR BOAT that we called Odd.. But wait? What happened to the house? Check out our website to know more about it https://www.oddlifecrafting.com/blog We hope to inspire others to follow their dreams. So yes, the end of the rally has left me with a major decision to make that will greatly affect the future direction of SSL videos.. My goal is to keep going and filming new areas on into the Pacific. I am already about half way to full time sustainable travel between Youtube revenue and Patreon (Thank-YOU!), so it wouldn't take much to be able to keep going, but that places my future direction firmly in your hands. If you have enjoyed my videos and would like to help me meet this next goal, please consider joining my Patreon at https://www.patreon.com/AmbientRealLife Every little bit helps, and it wouldn't take many of you to sign up for even $2-$5/mth and together we will continue taking SSL in all new directions. Thanks much to all of you that have already offered your support, I wouldn't be here doing this without you! :) Cheers, Captain Rick For more real-time updates, follow us on Instagram at: http://www.instagram.com/SailingSophisticatedLady Support SSL Videos at: http://www.patreon.com/AmbientRealLife New SSL Video Collections just released on Vimeo! https://vimeo.com/ambientreallife/vod_pages Want info about our drones? Awesome diving in pristine coral reefs in Raja Ampat, Indonesia. Magic Mountain and Boo windows are incredible dives with tonns of fishes and hotspots of biodiversity. Thanks to the Misool conservation projects of the Miner family , Wildaid and the Manta project the area around the Misool Eco Resort is one of the last intact reef system in the oceans. Thanks to our guide Ferry for finding the small and big stuff and the happy boat for beiing such great buddies.
When it comes to traditional looks this Sabre 45 Salon Express delivers on looks and also funcaionality. I found her to be a very stable and easy platform to walk around and can see that for a family she would work exceptionally if your inside enjoying the air con or out the back deck with the sun shade deployed. The technical room with washer, dryer and extra fridges turns this into a vessel that will easily do long cruises should you need and her design means you can be enjoying the cooler climates of Tassie or the tropics up North and enjoy an endless season on this boat. After spending a day aboard the Sabre I was left witht he impression that this is the style of boat that people dream a lifetime of owning and I suspect if you are lucky enough to get your hands on one of these then you'll probably hold onto it for a while. Camera used - GoPro Hero 8: ON SALE here: https://amzn.to/36APCZz I honestly love this ski and don't hate anything about it, but there is a few things that could be fixed/altered to make it almost perfect.
IT'S BAD!! We removed our keel and what we found could result in the end of Project Melody. Melody has a lifting swing keel which goes up inside a box inside the long keel so it is super important to remove that and inspect everything and repair everything. But then we lifted the boat to remove the swing keel we discovered the extent of the rust and corrosion along the underside of the long keel looks pretty awful and is coming off in huge slabs. It is repairable but it's going to be tricky and expensive to fix. Remember we're doing all of this so we can go full time cruising as a sailing family in a few years time. This is obviously a huge refit and refurbishment of this big, old, abandoned steel yacht and it's not only time consuming, it's complicated and quite expensive so we really do value any help we can get, whether it's helpful advice and comments on the video or gifts through our Amazon Wishlist or actual contributions through Patreon, Paypal and Ko-Fi. We really like Colombia and didn’t want to go back to Santa Marta already so we headed inland to the city of eternal spring, Medellín. It's the second biggest city in Colombia and we explore the hills and neighborhoods of this cool city and learn more about its violent history. We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat RAN, a custom built aluminium Beason 40, untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter and started to sail south along the coast of Europe. There is no set route and we will go where the wind and our minds take us. WANT MORE? In last week’s episode we arrived in Italy to spend a week on a sailing charter with friends. The boat was a 2018 48ft Beneteau which was surprisingly roomy with 10 of us piled into it. We start this episode on our way to visit some of the best sights that the Amalfi Coast has to offer and our first stop is on the Isle of Capri. After a turbulent night in a VERY expensive marina, we sail straight on to Positano, a stunning vertically build town built amongst towing rock walls. We continue exploring in our usual fashion of getting lost down random laneways, but eventually have to head back to the boat where we continue sailing along the coast in the direction of Amalfi itself. In the impossibly tight marina, we get a little assistance with docking from what is arguably THE best helmsman we have EVER seen. Without using our diesel engine, we sail through Current Cut and anchor at Meeks Patch, an island with swimming pigs. Buckle up - this episode has it all... Seasickness, sailing, protected anchorages, uninhabited islands, swimming pigs, snorkeling, and a bright red bikini. ;) We start off by leaving Hatchet Bay with the wind and seas blowing directly into the cut. It was a bumpy ride getting out of the cut, but once we were out, there was definitely no going back. From there, we nurse 2 sick crew members as we make our way to and through Current Cut - we actually sail all the way through the cut against a stiff current! So proud of Tambi for steering our way through as I worked the sails. Pretty cool experience. Then onwards to Royal Island where we wait out a short low coming through. Not too much to do here, but it's a wonderfully protected anchorage - I'd probably rank it as the best overall anchorage for all-round protection in Eleuthera. Finally, we stop at Meek's Patch and play with the pigs for a while. We also do a bit of snorkeling while there. Great little island, but don't tell anybody! We don't want this to become the next Big Majors uber-touristy "swimming" pig attraction. I guess that's about it. Thanks for watching!! Yamaha has designed this series of boats to be the definition of versatility on the water in a jet boat. The Family Sport Hybrid (FSH) is configured with the avid angler in mind, but all major areas of the boat are designed to easily convert to family and social areas while the poles are stowed. She is designed for fishing in the morning, snorkeling or tubing in the afternoon with kids, plus cruising and entertaining anytime. There are a number of projects we could not do in the tent because of space restrictions. Get your Mobvoi TicWatch: https://bit.ly/3XqSFNT #Mobvoi #TicWatch#TicWatchPro5Enduro https://www.youtube.com/@UC0wuGXvmz6YcgUFnLgQuCbw While we loved the protection of being inside the tent, there were a number of projects that were being held up, due to the lack of space in there. For starters, you can see the nose cones we've added at the bow, since we've gotten into the work yard. They're only temporarily bolted in place at the moment, but with the extra space, now we'll be able to permanently get them in with our methacrylate and fiberglass. The sterns are another area adding length to our boat, meaning it was a project best left for when it wasn't taking up precious space in the tent. Our new sterns, which were molded from Max Cruise in 2022, not only add two feet in length to our boat, but allow us to have kick up rudders. Then next year, once the bows are on, we can add the forebeam and longeron. Thankfully we have all the pieces we need for that project, safely stored away in the marina's shipping container. Tucker gives a quick rundown of what's happening with the tent, as that is in desperate need of a makeover. The guys are working hard to put in new baseboards and belly bands, so that by the time temperatures drop, they can enclose it in brand new shrink wrap. Lastly, Matt and I take a ride on our friend Ryan and Sophie's Chesapeake Light Craft wooden electric motor boat. I had spent a day this past winter helping Sophie build it, but hadn't seen it since. Now that she's in the water, she's a piece of beauty, and the perfect boat for all the little creeks around here! We hope you enjoy! Thank you SO MUCH to all our Patrons for your continued support.
