We take advantage of the calm weather to further enjoy Broadhurst Reef and stock up our fridge with fish ready for our return to Magnetic Island and Townsville. We go spearfishing on our final dive at the reef and Pascale goes on a magic Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) date with Meg from SV Sarean. On our return to Magnetic Island, we encounter fickle winds despite a weather report to the contrary. Pascale brings in a decent size Spanish Mackerel and shows you how we smoke it with Casuarina wood that we collect from the beach at Horseshoe Bay on Magnetic Island. As we start to sail slightly north again we visit one island which does not get many visitors.....leaving it completely unspoiled for those who do make it there. Leaving Antigua behind, we set out on a NW course with the wind and waves at our back as we have a beautiful sunset sail. With no issues overnight we wake to find the volcanic island of Saba towering in front of us, and read up on her history. With very few safe and secure spots to anchor, we pick up a mooring ball on the west side of the island. The next day we take the dingy to Fort Bay where we check in, and then begin making our long hike up to the town of The Bottom, thankfully getting picked up half way between. So we went and installed a wood burning stove onto our 40yr old sailing boat that we live on. It's a brilliant little stove from a company called 'Cubic mini, wood burning stoves' who make stoves specifically for tiny homes of all styles. Arabella continued her sail north from Mattapoisett. It was great being back where it all started, surrounded by such a supportive and welcoming community. Sailing through the Cape Cod Canal, Steve and Robin were faced with quite a storm. Upon making it to the harbor, Steve requested a special meal to celebrate surviving the harsh weather. Robin cooked up her mom’s “amazing chicken” to warm their souls. It was great waking up in a different harbor. Before heading on out, the day was spent walking Akiva around Scituate, stopping for coffee, and going through the departure checklist once back on the boat. Unfortunately, the wind was not in their favor for making it to Gloucester under sail, so they motored for the rest of the day. The traveling didn’t stop there. In order to get their truck that was parked back in Mattapoisett, a couple rides on the train were required. Gloucester is America’s oldest seaport, and has worked to maintain its roots as a fishing harbor. If you ever get a chance to visit, you’ll see that it’s still a working harbor with fishing boats coming in and out all day. When in the area, it doesn’t take long to spot old wooden boats sailing around the harbor—including Ardelle, built by Harold Burnham. Throughout the build of Arabella, Harold was a great resource who always provided wise advice. Perfect Caribbean sailing to the stunningly beautiful Anegada island, in the north of the British Virgin Islands. Scooter tour around the island and wonderful drone footage of the unspoiled natural environment. Following our exploration of Anguilla, we sail 80nm west to the British Virgin Islands and check-in at Virgin Gorda. Our 18nm day-sail up to Anegada was near perfect blue water sailing in the trade winds, arriving to turquoise coral waters. There, we help a charter yacht which was aground, enjoy the delights of the famous Anegada BBQ lobster then tour the island by scooter, visiting every corner. This island has stunning natural beauty both on its shoreline and interior lakes. We take a lot of drone footage, including catching a glimpse of the elusive flock of Pink Flamingos. You can really feel we are enjoying ourselves on this island. It is probably one of our all-time favorite places.
