As the days pass, it is quite nice to have some uneventful 'ordinary' days. Granted, these days are never truly ordinary and there is always something going on. However, being able to 'just be' in the moment, taking care of routine tasks, and going as I please is more than I could ever ask for. And this week was it. Our last stop on the Swedish south coast is Kåseberga and the mystical Ale Stenar. It's a tiny harbor but not many boats are here. We get surprised by really thick fog the next morning. So thick we can hardly see a thing! We are a Swedish couple who have sailed the world since 2016 while sharing the adventures here on YouTube. In 2019 our daughter was born and we bought a bigger boat to continue sailing as a family. Video Sponsored by Ridge Wallet: https://www.ridgewallet.com/lines Use Code “lines” for 10% off your order” Lin and Larry Pardey circumnavigated twice on two different boats: each of them were engine-less, hand-built by Larry, and less than 30'. I bring this up because people who aren't familiar with sailing vessels might be surprised that a boat of this size could be fit for ocean passages. Pacific Seacraft makes excellent, high quality yachts that are small and ocean-capable. The 25 is no different. I believe this boat is a worthwhile project for someone looking for a true go-anywhere pocket cruiser and isn't afraid to restore her. She's perfect for someone with a little bit of land to store her on a trailer and restore her on his or her own time, at least that's what I would do. Hurricane while aboard a sailboat! Yes, Hurricane Lee was downgraded to a tropical storm just before it hit, but everyone here on the water prepares for what could be a longer storm rather than a stronger one. Robin and Steve ended up hiding out in Curtis Cove/Minister's Creek in Pulpit Harbor on North Haven Island in Maine, an extremely protected anchorage during the storm. With northeast winds predicted, and all-around protection, they cooked good food and hunkered down with ease and comfort, then sailed the boat alone for the first time since she was launched. During that sail, they encountered a rig failure which they handled as they came into Rockland Harbor. -------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella started as a wooden boat building project in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve began the journey as an amateur wooden boat builder crafting a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and now sailing the boat—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that traditional wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project continues beyond the boat shop, as Steve and crew travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. -------------------------- If you are interested in supporting/helping here are a few ways: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/how-to-help Acorn to Arabella's wishlist: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/wishlistpriority TotalBoat supports A2A! Well, it finally happened. Our first storm at sea, and boy was it a wild one, but it almost felt like the two years were preparing us for this very moment. So, grab a brew and listening to the howl of the wind as it rattles our rigging and sends us on a course we didn't expect to be on. 〰️〰️〰️〰️ Episode 125 I Chapter 4: A Whole New Ocean [Pacific] 〰️〰️〰️〰️ 👪 Join the Tribe on our *Patreon* https://www.patreon.com/teulutribe 👕Pick up some *Merch* https://www.teulutribe.com/ 📷 Find us over on *Instagram* https://www.instagram.com/teulutribe/ 💬 Connect with us on *Facebook* https://www.facebook.com/teulutribe/ 🛠️ Teulu's always trying to break herself, our *Amazon Wishlist* is here https://www.amazon.co.uk/hz/wishlist/ls/2045NNIGRTMQT?ref_=wl_share ☕ Treat us to a *Cup of Tea* https://www.buymeacoffee.com/teulutribe 📧 *Business Enquires* TeuluTribe@lighthouseagents.com ☑️ *Subscribe* for a new video every Monday *About Our Boat* - Name pronunciation (Tay-Lee), its Welsh, feel free to call her Too-Loo/Te-a-lu/Teaugukug/Tulu - 1987 Colvic Victor Ketch - 40ft/12m - Two Cabins - Encapsulated Keel and Skeg-Hung Rudder - 13 Tonnes *About Us* We are Becka and Zach, a couple who, in 2020, dreamt of sailing off into the big blue. Trouble is- we were in a pandemic, had a university degree to finish, on a student budget, only had ever sailed dingies, oh and didn't have a boat. The dream seemed not only unrealistic but pretty insane. However, we worked hard, finished our degrees, worked as many hours as physically possible, saved with all our might, got experience and in March 2022 bought our very own sailboat, Teulu. Having little sailing experience and being a young couple, we have encountered a tonne of hurdles and made plenty of mistakes! but for every downfall, there has always been a reason to dust ourselves off and carry on. This walk-through video shows you the unique features on board this aluminium custom built sailing yacht, designed by renowned design office Dykstra Naval Architects. She is very well outfitted as the owner has upgraded her since he bought her in 2015. KM Yachtbuilders exclusively maintained this yacht every winter.
Just when you thought the Puffin 42 was the dreamboat and the final selection for the Captain, we stumbled across a 2001 Bruckmann 50 Motorsailor for sale for $395,000 Now, she's a little more pricey than our usual target range, but considering the comfort and space of this world-cruising liveaboard, you could easily sell the condo and head out for some serious adventure. In particular, the main cabin has a den, and multiple levels of living (not unlike the Puffiin), and has been meticulously maintained by the current owner (and his two dogs and friendly kitty). ======= CAPT Q MERCH ===== https://www.etsy.com/shop/CaptainQYachtHunter ============== Support us ============== Like what we're doing & want to help?? For the full written captain’s report, test and performance data, and more about the 2016 Yamaha FX SVHO, go to http://www.boattest.com/review/yamaha/3425_fx-svho-ref=YT Aside from all the frills, all the muscle, all the performance, there’s no denying that this is not only a serious watercraft, but among the best looking we’ve seen. Everything about it just says upscale style. She’s got lines and trim that add to the allure that this is a top tier model that leaves little to nothing to be desired. But whether the vehicle is a Ferrari, Lamborghini or a Yamaha FX SVHO… looks will only go so far. This watercraft delivers well beyond the looks.
For more review, test, performance data, captain reports and more about the 2017 Grady-White Marlin 300, go to: http://www.boattest.com/review/grady-white/3648_marlin-300 The Marlin 300’s SeaV2 hull and overall design make it an offshore saltwater fishing vessel first and foremost. The 30’6” (9.30 m) LOA and cabin below deck are a marriage of practicality and convenience. Perhaps the most important thing about the Marlin 300 is that it is a lot more comfortable -- dryer and safer -- for extended trips far offshore for bluewater fishing. Because she is not an open boat, when the sea gets rough and confused, her closed foredeck and protected bridge and cockpit make her a welcome alternative to any center console on the market.

Then we back into the travel lift slip, place the boat on the hard, and remove the steering quadrant for rudder removal. 3:52 Damage revealed. Inspecting the boat and determining how a collision with a UFO (underwater floating object) or a possible whale caused the damage to our sailboat 7:54 Curtis drives south to Porto Bello, Brazil to pick up a vacuum pump and supplies from Gabriel @magmayachts3536 we take a look into the boats they are building in their shop using infusion, including a 38' racer/cruiser and a 44 foot daggerboard catamaran 10:42 Back at Itajai Marina - Curtis discusses the fiberglass repair process and plan and gets to work cutting into the boat with the grinder to remove the wet core and prepare for lamination 14:50 A tour of @catarinanautica1's paint room where the owner Roberto showed us the possibilities of custom colors by AkzoNobel. 16:20 Conclusion and special thanks to our Patrons and all those that have helped us and continue to help us accomplish our mission and share it with you in these sailing videos! About Us Kate and Curtis both learn how to sail when they were young. Kate was a junior sailor in Opti's and 420's while Curtis went cruising in the Great Lakes with his family. We met while sailing in a Melges 24 regatta and have been sailing together ever since. The first time we went cruising together as a couple was on a friends borrowed J Boats J 105 in the North Channel of Lake Huron and Canada (part of the Great Loop). Those few weeks, and watching other channels like Gone With the Wynns, Sailing Uma, Project Atticus, Delos, Nahoa, and Sailing La Vagabonde, convinced us that the sailing life was for us. We bought our boat, a J Boats J/46, in 2019 after spending years searching for the perfect bluewater sailboat to sail around the world. We were interested in a catamaran and monohulls, but loved the performance cruising design of the J(it is faster than most cruising catamarans). We spent six months refitting her in Rhode Island, before selling our house and cars, quitting our jobs, and leaving land life for good to become digital nomads, with the goal of sailing around the world via Cape Horn. We have since navigated over 12,000 miles together, through storms, big waves, pandemics, and lockdowns. We sailed to Maine, the Bahamas, the Caribbean, Grenada, Sint Maarten, the Azores, Canary Islands, and Brazil, on our way south to Uruguay, Argentina, and Chile to sail around Cape Horn and into the Patagonia fjords. We never intended to become influencers or start a new YouTube sailing channel, but now it is what we do. We love sharing our experience and adventures with you. We have learned to fly the drone and edit videos, trying to produce relaxing and listenable videos for you to sail away and watch at home while having coffee on Sunday mornings.
The situation we face this week, could be the most helpless we've ever felt throughout our three years on the ocean, Purchasing our salvage sailboat, an Amel Super Maramu 53, in Indonesia. There is a 300Nm motor we have to complete in order to make it to the boat yard where our repairs will start. But this week, just about everything goes wrong, and those three emergency words are uttered, "PAN PAN PAN". Our last stop in the Pearl Islands in Panama is the private island San José. We were the only boat but pelicans and cows kept us company. Next passage was the sail to the border of Panama, Puerto Armuelles, and this one goes around two capes that are infamous for strong winds and riptide. We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat RAN, a custom built aluminium Beason 40, untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter and started to sail south along the coast of Europe. There is no set route and we will go where the wind and our minds take us. WANT MORE? Heaving to was once an everyday procedure for sailing craft. It has fallen out of fashion for a number of reasons. This video describes how my crew and I hove to in a serious storm, then goes on to look at the benefits of the technique, discussing how its effectiveness varies from boat to boat. #TomCunliffe, #heaving to, #hove to, #sailing, #yachting, #seamanship If you’re interested in sailing, things maritime and the salty road to freedom, you'll enjoy my channel, so pour yourself a glass of the finest and settle down with my personal mixture of yarns and useful instructional material. SOLD! Congratulations and safe travels to the new owners. Jeff Merrill traveled to Virginia to film this Nordhavn 50 Talk Through Tour. Wild Rumpus is easily single handed and an ideal two-person, owner operator trawler. Wild Rumpus was delivered in 2002 and has cruised the eastern seaboard and visited the Bahamas. She has lived much of her life on the Chesapeake Bay under covered storage when not out at sea. Popular Nordhavn 50 attributes include: wide body saloon, flybridge, dry stack exhaust with fiberglass mast, dinghy crane, walk through stairs into the master and teak finish in the cabins. Wild Rumpus has an appropriate balance of indoor and outdoor living space. The interior features two cabins with ensuite heads, a roomy saloon and seagoing galley. The raised pilothouse is an ideal command station. On deck, there is a natural flow that connects the cockpit, side deck, Portuguese bridge and foredeck. The boat deck and flybridge are on one level. This Nordhavn 50 has excellent diesel fuel economy, providing the range to cross oceans in safety and comfort. Would you like to cruise long distances and explore remote coves far from home in the comfort of a superbly engineered and thoughtfully outfitted long-range trawler? Wild Rumpus is even more appealing in person. She has been continually upgraded and deservedly looked after. Recent improvements include navigation electronics and a new tender. In this video, I use a vacuum pump and high heat to attempt to dry out the GRP (fiberglass) hull of my sailboat. We love to share our knowledge and experiences with you! We have all types of videos from fixing repairs, to sail trim, to relaxing videos to asmr long form sailing content. Come sail away with us every Sunday Morning. Kate and Curtis both learn how to sail when they were young. We hope we can inspire you to achieve your life goals and cross off those bucket list items also!
We woke up on our boat a bit earlier than usually to some lightning, rain, and sudden wind shift that forced us to change anchorages while we waited for the squall to pass and get ready to sail again to a brand new country. We sailed downwind with dolphins, took a quick rest in Bonaire, and finally made it all the way to Curaçao. We are Ben and MP! Recently we decided to purchase a two-masted wooden schooner in Brazil. The fun detail about our story is that the boat we bought was sinking and relying on many bilge pumps to survive so we had to lift it onto the dry to start a full refit. Once the boat was lifted (for the first time in her life) we realized that the work needed was much more than expected. Between bailing or accepting the challenge, we decided to go for the second option. Trouble is- we were in a pandemic, had a university degree to finish, on a student budget, only had ever sailed dingies, oh and didn’t have a boat. We've been so busy selling the house we haven't had hardly any time to sail. This time we danced, motored, replaced a water heater, diagnosed a water pressure pump, and reflected on our new lifestyle. Thank you subscribers! You make it happen. It’s not often that you get to spend three days evaluating a new boat……especially when her owner is waiting to take delivery and head over the horizon. But a full three days is what Matt Sheahan and the PlanetSail team had to get to grips with the eagerly awaited, brand new Oyster 595. The 120mile passage was also the the first true test for the 595 and given the undisputed popularity of her smaller sister the 565, along with the expectations around this bigger, long-legged blue water crusier cruiser, there was plenty riding on this trip. Three days aboard also gave us the opportunity to take some deep dives into the detail and produce some extra videos of the detail on deck, through the accommodation and under the cabin sole.
