The main focus this year has been our Alaska and British Columbia cruise and with all the traveling we’ve done, boat projects and maintenance have had to wait. The acrylic of older hatches is typically crazed by exposure to UV. Few vendors are willing to replace the lens at less than 70 percent of the price of a new hatch. In this weeks episode we finally put the tools down and go and have some FUN! In between bouts of bad weather we headed for the underwater statue park in Grenada and explored the sculptures. The following day we were overjoyed to hear that the delivery of our new Isotherm 'Cruise' CR130 Elegance fridge had arrived and was to be delivered to us shore side in the bay we currently call home, Grand Mal. After some precarious moments trying to hoist the box out of the dinghy and into the boat we managed to get our new fridge on board, wired up and cranking out ice.... just in time for a drink at sunset. Those gorgeous resorts are on every corner. It is also only a short few hour sail from Tahiti. The slow pace was a welcomed treat after the hustle of Tahiti. Easily accomplished while anchored in eight feet of crystal clear turquoise water with the occasional ray cruising by. Likely commuting from Stingray City - a small spit of sand where they congregate daily. Waiting to be fed by the tourists. So eager and conditioned that they will nuzzle up to you as soon as you jump in. But we don't lounge for long. One of the peaks overlooking the anchorage was whispering to us. Come test me. I have gorgeous views and a killer ascent. What could go wrong? What followed is one of our most epic memories in French Polynesia. A scramble to the top of Mount Rotui. A monster of a ridge. One that disappears into the clouds. Each thing we'd read about this hike was the same. Bring lots of water. Three litres each. Start at dawn and making the summit is a 50/50 chance. We drank all our water and every last drop came pouring out of us.
