Ever since we started our journey, we've been receiving many comments and questions about the fact that we have been sailing without lifelines. Although we had replacement plans from the beginning, we haven't spoken much of it. So in this episode, as we FINALLY sail out of Fort Lauderdale, we decided to clarify a few things and talk about why we did not have lifelines for the past 4 years and our solutions moving forward. Eles nos relataram como encontram cad vez menos peixes no mar. http://Homebuilt-Wooden-Sailboat-Plans.com offers FREE reviews of a graduate way to you or any other Wooden Row Boat Builder to start a successful journey with building wooden sailboat plans. Some people prefer to learn by watching videos on building your own boats, while others rather follow step by step written instructions. Determine how you learn best and then make a choice based on that.
Tour around our Outremer 5x We have a 4 cabin layout with 2 showers and 2 toilets. We have been sailing for the last 3 months and we have not come across one sailing vessel as fast as the outremer 5X. This catamaran was set up specifically for racing, so its a vessel above our ability at this time, but we are learning more and more each day. When we we searching for what type of boat to buy I was very hesitant due to the fact that we have had little experience on any type of boat. We looked at Lagoon catamarans, leopard catamarans, Bali catamarans, and many other brands, but we would always gravitate back to the Outremer. Inspired by Sailing La Vagabonde, as we watched their YouTube channel week after week for a few years and to hear of their experiences with Outreamer, we knew Outremer would be the best bout catamaran for our family. Here is a link to their latest YouTube video https://youtu.be/y-YpOdzieTU They seriously have been a massive inspiration to me. With no sailing experience they have definitely made things happen. The only other catamaran I wish we would have looked into was the HH. They look amazing, but still to this day I have not been on one. Their are not many performance oriented catamarans, so we are glad we found one. When looking to buy a catamaran you look for comfort, as its going to be your new home. but we are a 60 foot catamaran where a 40 foot lagoon probably has the same amount of living space. The only difference is in light wind the outremer will sail, where the lagoon will be motoring. The boat itself has been incredible with all the carbon fiber build it is one of the fastest causing catamarans built. We are grateful to be about to learn to sail on such a fabulous vessel. right now we are putting on a new generator Piccolo 5, our solar is works great however every once in a while we need just a little more boost. so we are buying a peace of mind. Sailing on a catamaran and a monohull can be different experiences, as they have different characteristics and design features. Catamarans are generally wider and more stable than monohulls, which makes them a good choice for those who are looking for a smoother and more comfortable sailing experience. They also tend to have more space on deck and below deck, which can be a major advantage for those who value comfort and want to use their boat for longer trips or for living aboard. Monohulls, on the other hand, are typically faster and more maneuverable than catamarans. (Excluding performance Catamarans, as we pass most people.) They are often favored by sailors who enjoy the challenge of sailing in more difficult conditions and who appreciate the classic look of a traditional sailing vessel. Additionally, monohulls are often better at handling heavy winds and rough seas, which can make them more suitable for experienced sailors. Ultimately, the choice between a catamaran and a monohull will depend on your personal preferences and the type of sailing you plan to do. Some sailors prefer the stability and comfort of a catamaran, while others enjoy the speed and handling of a monohull. It's important to consider your own needs and sailing style when making a decision, and to try out different types of boats if possible to determine which is right for you.

We couldve never imagined what this #adventure would become. After gaining more sailing experience we knew we had to make some serious upgrades to our boat if we wanted to keep this journey going! Unfortunately now our engine is no longer working we will be back in the boat yard for awhile, But before we set up on the hard we wanted to test our skills by sailing engineless around the Caribbean

Dealing with bad weather while at anchor can be terrifying. It’s extremely loud with the wind howling through the rigging, the boat violently heels back and forth, making it difficult to do anything, and the worst case scenario is always in the back of our mind. Now, if you want sunshine and calm water, pleasant day sails and a large variety of anchorages to choose form, you’re going to need to sail in the summer in the mediterranean. Sailing in the fall is a very different story. It feels a bit like playing a game of Chess, with your opponents pieces being massive low pressure systems, sudden thunderstorms, and huge swell that seems to magically wrap into every anchorage. To safely cruise at this time of year we are constantly checking the forecast for a break in the weather so we can run to our next destination. But perfect anchorages with 360 degree protection are extremely rare, so we need to choose our anchorages wisely. We need to take into consideration the huge wind shifts and massive swell, as well as what could happen if the forecasts are wrong. There are a thousand variables to consider and we’re always thinking three moves ahead. But the pay-off for all of this trouble is that we get to experience one of the most renown cruising grounds on the planet basically all to ourselves. But the real question is, how much longer can we keep this up? A couple of modern-day documentarians, perpetual travelers, and seekers of tall tales. We’ve been chasing our curiosity around the world on wheels and keels since 2011. Why? Because curiosity is the key to unlocking life. It pushes us outside our comfort zone, softens our assumptions, and helps us embrace the great unknown. The more we let our curiosity lead the way, the more we discover about ourselves and the world around us. Our home is also our transportation and we spend weeks away from civilization and sometimes land. Self-reliance and living a sustainable lifestyle are a must. It's all about managing our resources and we’re always looking for new and better ways to do so. We've lived off the grid for over 10 years now in everything from a Van to RV to a Sailboat. This week we move onto work with our bulkheads and run into one area that has us scratching our heads. **Want to support the build and get behind the scenes footage? Join our Patreon Family today! https://www.patreon.com/mjsailing ** Of course if we're working on a project we know we might mess up - we want it to be in an area where no one will see. So with that in mind, we start work on bulkhead two, which will be up in our sail locker. The few stages we have to get through are measuring out the cutout, and then strengthening the area with unidirectional fiberglass. It does not stay put in the routed out trough like we'd hoped...and so we resort to using clear packing tape to try and hold it in place until it cures. It's a good thing there will be so many rounds of this ahead of us - eventually we'll become pro's at it! Enjoy! Much love from Annapolis! After four years in the boatyard following her tragic accident, Magic Carpet sets sail once again! Now that she can float, we transported her to Basel, Switzerland, where we will start the long canal journey through France out to the Mediterranean. I didn't have as much time to make this episode, because we're still frantically doing last minute preparations for the canal journey. However, I hope it's still enjoyable –– the spectacular sight of a Vindo 32 under sail is usually enough to capture a boat lover's attention! We set sail from Puerto Rico expecting a "sporty" sail. What started as a mundane sail ended with winds to 40 knots, a fresh gale, and steep waves. The coast of Colombia is renowned for it's sea conditions. Some say it's the entire Atlantic piling up in this corner of the Caribbean. Others say it's the current. On the fifth day we took down all of our sails in order to slow down our surfs down these waves. This sail will go down as one of our most memorable rides. We're here in Cartagena now and loving it. It has everything you could ever want from an old world city. A great atmosphere and cheap food. It'd be accurate to say we're fully in Cartagena's clutches! The fun detail about our story is that the boat we bought was sinking and relying on many bilge pumps to survive so we had to lift it onto the dry to start a full refit. Once the boat was lifted (for the first time in her life) we realized that the work needed was much more than expected. Between bailing or accepting the challenge, we decided to go for the second option. We're back to planking! We've asked some of our skilled friends to come back and help us get closer to closing up Arabella's hull. We have eight oak planks, a couple of cedar planks, and the black locust sheer strakes remaining for installation. After the remainder of the oak planks are in, we can either keep moving forward with the rest of the planking, or we'll be able to confidently move on to interior joinery. Carolyn's on hand, Jack's working here in this video, and Wes is due to arrive. Our goal is to see if we can get all the oak planks installed with their help. It's a tall order, as the fastest we've been able to put on planks, no matter the crew size, is three planks per week... But we are going to do our best! In this video, Jack talks about his new business, Dara Forestry and Maritime Timber. We're glad he's decided to use his resources to supply lumber for boatbuilding, and we're sure we'll see him succeed and for others from boatyards and home builds to get more access to these ethically sourced resources. Bringing Yabá from wreck to dreamy! Episode 69 In this episode our bulwark on port is finally finished so we can start tackling our starboard side, which means some more lathe work! Besides that, our deck gets caulked, which is super exciting! We hope you enjoy this! We are Ben and MP! Recently we decided to purchase a two-masted 70ft wooden schooner in Brazil. The fun detail about our story is that the boat we bought was sinking and relying on many bilge pumps to survive so we had to lift it onto the dry to start a full refit. Once the boat was lifted (for the first time in her life) we realized that the works needed were a lot more than expected. Between bailing or accepting the challenge, we decided to go for the second option. Watch us as we bring Yabá back to life with the help of an amazing team of traditional shipwrights, sharing every phase of the process, overcoming the highs and lows and having fun along the way. Twenty Small Sailboats to Take You Anywhere https://amzn.to/2loqBI4 This decision essentially came down to what would we regret less. Continue sailing a boat we loved but did not need from a size or power perspective. Or go all-in on our dreams of living a sustainable, minimalist life while continuing to sail the world. Sure, our path is unconventional (meaning we downsized instead of upsized) but we aren’t the first sailors who felt smaller & simpler was better or that there is no need for a diesel engine with today’s technological advancements in electric engines & battery capacity. This is our dream and we plan on sharing it in the most straightforward and honest way possible - like we said from the get-go. As we found out from a lot of Episode 30’s comments, some of YouTube’s ‘sailors’ don’t seem to agree with our minimalist, no-rush, nature-first approach to sailing. That’s fine, but we refuse to let these types of people derail our dreams. We’ve found from our own hands-on experience that this is what sailing is all about to us. This is us simply following our hearts.
