In this episode we sail from Raroia atoll to Fakarava, and explain the difficulties with dealing with passes in the atolls, where currents and reefs can be extremely challenging. But in Fakarava we go diving at the "Wall of sharks" appropriately named as we are surrounded by literally hundreds of sharks!! SV Parlay is a hurricane damaged Lagoon 450 catamaran, which Colin rebuilt with friends and has started sailing around the world. We found bulkhead damage on their catamaran in Panama, so have fixed her up, and are now sailing across the Pacific Ocean!! WE MADE IT!! After a year and a half sailing the Brazilian coast we finally set sail on our longest passage so far. Over 2000 Nautical Miles from Brazil to the Caribbean. Thanks so much to everyone that made and still makes our journey possible!! And a special thanks to all our Patrons. If you need meteorological support for ocean passages: http://metplan.org We are Duca and Roberta, a Brazilian couple that during a sabbatical trip in 2016 decided to follow our dream. So, we created "Odd Life Crafting", a project composed of many smaller projects that we call seasons. The first one was the creation of Odd Life Crafting. The idea was to build a metal boat to be able to travel the world taking our house with us, but we didn't have money for that. So, we started the next season: we built a tiny shipping container house with no prior experience in building to gain some skills to build a boat. When we were almost finished we found a boat 700km away from our hometown that was neglected for over 22 years and we spent 2 years refitting her (Season 3). The last season has been a dream coming true… we are exploring the Brazilian coast with OUR BOAT that we called Odd.. But wait? What happened to the house? Check out our website to know more about it https://www.oddlifecrafting.com/blog We hope to inspire others to follow their dreams. Bringing Yabá from wreck to dreamy! Episode 75 In this episode, we start building our swimming platform! It really surprises us how big it actually is! Also, we test our old rudder and decide to build a new one, as the old one was missing some chunks due to worms' hunger. Another cool thing that happens in this episode is that we put our lathe to the test by working on some 1 meter long pieces!! We hope you enjoy it! We are Ben and MP! Recently we decided to purchase a two-masted wooden schooner in Brazil. The fun detail about our story is that the boat we bought was sinking and relying on many bilge pumps to survive so we had to lift it onto the dry to start a full refit. Once the boat was lifted (for the first time in her life) we realized that the works needed were a lot more than expected. Between bailing or accepting the challenge, we decided to go for the second option. Watch us as we bring Yabá back to life with the help of an amazing team of traditional shipwrights, sharing every phase of the process, overcoming the highs and lows and having fun along the way. With wrapping up the bronze floors comes working on the mast step. This wild looking piece is built up out of live oak and black locust and looks more like a sculpture than a structural element in the boat! We also check alignment on Arabella to see if everything is still where it should be. Granted, we should have checked this before installing the knees but on our small routine checks, nothing seemed to have moved. And finally, we'll be getting started on spars soon! If you don't want to miss any of the upcoming videos remember to sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv And, as always, thank you very much for watching and supporting! See you next week! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve and Alix started as amateur boat builders building their own 38' wooden boat in their backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when they will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that they've built. Notoriously difficult for OFFSHORE SAILING, the Mozambique channel presents a challenge. When Strong winds blow against strong currents the sea state can become dangerous. We have to pick our weather window very carefully and if we get it wrong there are very few options to bail out. We are sailing between the closed borders of Madagascar and the potentially hostile borders of Mozambique with ISIS insurgency in the north and corrupt officials further south. We need to get this right. We have been sailing around the world for over 5 years after setting off from England in 2016 on board our 37ft sail boat Florence. Pads for handrails and hatch coamings go onto the house top, then primer coats of paint are applied. Larry Kindberg from Accutech Marine Propeller brings the Variprop feathering propeller to the shop. We get to fiberglassing the cockpit, which will be dropped in eventually. We Risk EVERYTHING to put the "Dream Life" to the Test. Is it all just a big Internet Lie? Thanks to BetterHelp for sponsoring this week's episode. Go to https://betterhelp.com/evans for 10% off your first month! Living on a sailboat is HARD but we knew that going in. At least, we thought we knew. Also though, living on a sailboat is AMAZING and we also thought we knew that. We fell in love with the idea of tropical islands, toes in the sand, drink in the hand, dogs frolicking in the palm fronds, and fresh fish on the fire. That's what the internet, youtube, instagram and the likes led us to believe. And so we went for it. We bought a salvaged boat, something we could afford and could grow into so to say. Spent a year fixing and a year outfitting it before really diving into cruising. The boat is set up for off grid living, is more or less self sufficient and capable of crossing oceans. Now, neither of us was naive enough to think it wouldn't be hard, that there wouldn't be bad days, bad weather, mechanical breakdowns, emotional or physical hiccups, but surely it's more good than bad...right? Since we started putting things in motion something like 8 years ago, we didn't actually know if it would be worth it. Does this new dream even actually exist? Is it something that a couple of kids can achieve? And if we "make it" and we get ourselves out there, is it as good as it seems. Let's - find out. Love you all, be safe be good! Sailing a 700nm passage West, we decide to cross the equator, NAKED of course! https://www.sailingnandji.com In this episode of Sailing Nandji, after visiting the local market in Jayapura and enjoying the street food of Indonesia, it was time to head back to sea and continue our journey West to the Indonesian province of Raja Ampat. The 700nm passage to Sorong took us close to the equator and since we were so close we thought, lets cross the damn thing! We sail off course and head North crossing the equator naked then are greeted by a monster squall. We have a quick party and offer our sacrifice to King Neptune before setting some sails again and sailing south in the strong winds and heavy rain! We are a young couple with a dog, who with no sailing experience, bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing around the Pacific! We just arrived to Indonesia after cruising the Pacific islands. We departed Australia 12 months ago and have since explored some amazing countries, met some amazing people and experienced cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of no where, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our life doing it! The adventure is just beginning as we sail West with the trades! SUBSCRIBE TO OUR CHANNEL. https://www.youtube.com/c/frothlyfesa... CLICK THE BELL to know when NEW Nandji videos are up! This chill out music mix is a journey into sound. And an epic 4k drone footage adventure through the Mentawai surf islands of Sumatra. For a free download of the audio version, click here: https://followtheboat.com/chill-out-music-mix-2020/ The project started as a simple music mix using some of the chill-out, ambient electro tunes we've showcased in previous episodes. But then we decided to introduce a few new ones. And then we thought, why not add some of the stunning Mavic 2 Pro drone footage which never made it into our episodes? So we created this ambient journey to kick back to and watch, listen or do both. It is a true reflection of our progress through the Mentawai Islands, starting at Asu, through the Mentawais, around to Krakatoa and finishing in Jakarta. Seja bem vindo a bordo do veleiro Brutus.

We return to the boat plans for a reminder on that. Mehrwertsteuer: Worauf man beim Bootskauf achten muss!
I have been getting challenged for months by my friend Patty to a dinghy race with my brand new Highfield 380 with a 2-stroke yamaha 25Hp on the back, against his 25Hp Johnson, which he claimed was the fastest dinghy in Linton bay. We also had a competitor enter with a 25Hp Tohatsu, or so we thought! Watch to see the results! I also had technical difficulties so shared footage with the YouTube channels "Odd life crafting", "Sailing Zingaro", and "Captain German". Thanks so much guys! There is a lot to love about this place and it’s safe to say that our experiences here have changed our lives. For someone who grew up in California, Europe always seemed to me like a magical world. A place where the very very old is somehow intertwined with the modern. Where Ernest Hemmingway sat in streetside cafe’s drinking liquors that I can’t pronounce, switching from one language to another as he discussed art and love and war or whatever. I knew that all civilizations have a “Culture” but it seemed like somehow Europe had more of it. Now that we’ve been sailing here for 18 months I can say that some of the stereotypes have held up and some have not. And this week, as we sail away from this fascinating continent we want talk about our thoughts on this extremely unique part of the world, the things we liked and the things we could do without. For visitor information and to watch the video Ben mentions in the intro, visit this page: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/visitor-welcome We say saloon, some say salon... we say lapstrake, some say clinker... we're not calling the whole thing off. Boat terminology can vary from region to region, sometimes by such a slight difference that it seems to be a spelling mistake, or perhaps that you've heard someone say a word they've read but have never heard out loud. In this case, both are correct. Then we've got all that land versus boat terminology. A boat aboard a bed is a berth, a portioned-out room is a cabin, a couch or seat is a settee, front is forward, back is aft. Caulking is caulking though. Carolyn shows her method for patterning, then cutting, the rolling bevel required for one of the settee supports. The same method is used for cushions, in case your boat is a little further along and you need to know it. We hadn't mentioned or showed much of the process for the anchor locker bulkhead, which is a partial bulkhead separating out the forward-most part of the forepeak—many commenters were asking, and the truth is that it was fairly close to the shape it needed to be, as it was used for the same purpose in Victoria. In future, we'll be fitting out that area with a fiberglass "tub" to catch mud and moisture after weighing anchor. Stay tuned! Carolyn says goodbye to Arabella, and shares her thoughts about the time she spent here as a professional boatbuilder in such a public setting. We're thankful for her skills, creativity, expertise, care, and teamwork. We will miss her. Happy Friday to you! These come out every week. We hope you're subscribed to this channel and to our newsletter. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. The ultimate performance cruising catamaran. The most affordable, comfortable and fast sailing cats.
Catamaran vs Performance catamaran. What’s the Right Choice For You? Can a performance cruising catamaran be comfortable? Is it comfort to have numerous bathrooms or smooth motions in heavy seas? Does weight matter? What is the best catamaran for sailing around the world and why? People are always asking what’s better to buy – Fountain Pajot, Lagoon, Priveledge or Leopard catamaran? The truth about sailing catamarans is there are much more beautiful and affordable sailboats than you can see on the charter market. In this sailing video are 3 examples of perfect and comfortable cruising catamarans: - Atlantic catamaran designed by Chris White - Cyber catamaran designed by Tim Mumby - Looping catamaran designed by Patrick Luscher Interview with long term cruisers/liveaboard owners and catamaran boat tours. Discussions about catamaran life, lightweight construction, sailing speed in different wind conditions, advantages of an ocean crossing on a light, fast and comfortable catamaran. In this sailing film you can see unique drone shots of 3 beautiful fast catamarans sailing close together. List of other affordable performance cats (including old Outremer catamarans). And a look behind the philosophy of different types of catamarans. Bringing Yabá from wreck to dreamy! Episode 107 In this episode of our boat restoration, we remove what we truly believe were the last rotten parts left, the pilothouse windows. We also tackle the pilothouse roof with fiberglass and resin and when the rain hit we worked on other stuff such as our mast foot invention and the first parts of our future furniture. We are Ben and MP! Recently we decided to purchase a two-masted wooden schooner in Brazil. The fun detail about our story is that the boat we bought was sinking and relying on many bilge pumps to survive so we had to lift it onto the dry to start a full refit. Once the boat was lifted (for the first time in her life) we realized that the work needed was much more than expected. Between bailing or accepting the challenge, we decided to go for the second option. Watch us as we bring Yabá back to life with the help of an amazing team of traditional shipwrights, sharing every phase of the process, overcoming the highs and lows and having fun along the way. We were pleasantly surprised with this boat. She is a 2008 custom Gorbon 53' deck salon, built in Turkey for over 1.5 million dollars. She still feels like a million dollar yacht today, but she costs MUCH less to purchase now. The dual helms, deck salon, and secondary interior helm station, combined with the massive amount of functional exterior and interior space make this boat a real competitor with today's modern catamarans for comfortable cruising. and living aboard. I'd certainly say she has the accommodations of a 40 to 45' modern catamaran for a fraction of the price. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Make sure you make an informed decision on your next boat with this tool: http://sailingsoulianis.com/shop/ltl-boat-buying-dashboard/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This boat has been sold! We depart the Galapagos for the Marquesas Islands, 3,000 nautical miles across the empty Pacific. Ten years ago, before kids, we sailed a Lagoon 380 named "Honeymoon" halfway around the world to Sydney, Australia. Along the way we shared our experiences with family and friends via YouTube, and by happenstance created one of the earliest sailing channels still posting. We also realized what an incredible experience we were having and that someday we wanted to do it again, only this time with our kids. OUR BOAT is a Ferrari red Outremer 51 performance cruising catamaran. We chose this boat as it has been specifically designed for the purpose of bluewater sailing. It was designed and built to withstand the stress of "sailing multiple times around the world safely and in comfort." And yes, she's nice on the eyes too. OUR ROUTE has taken us from the Boston/Cape Cod area of the United States down to the Caribbean and then through the Panama Canal. At the time of posting this we have dealt with the Coronavirus lock down in New Zealand and are now cruising again in Australia. PLEASE COMMENT!: As a "family channel," we are required to actively monitor all comments, but we still want to hear from you. Tell us what you think! THANKS for watching all.
