There is no such thing as a 'last' job, because maintenance never ends on a boat, but recommissioning our diesel generator is essential if we want to be continual cruisers on the canals and waterways of England! It's been held up by a broken bolt that we need to drill out and retap, but finding someone to assist was proving difficult. Fortunately, along came Matthew of Thorne Boat Services on the Stainforth and Keadby Canal. Taking this opportunity, Jamie moved our widebeam canal boat through Thorne Lock and downstream in high winds to the workshop. But fixing the bolt is only half the problem. When we initially ran the generator, it was cutting out after just a couple of minutes, so something was clearly wrong. Jamie suspects the thermostat, so he sets out to clean the cooling system, which, it turns out, was filthy! On traverse de la Sardaigne jusqu’en Corse avec le Moody 56… et la passe nous a donné tout un accueil 😅 Vent dans la figure, rafales à 30 nœuds, mer serrée. Et comme d’habitude : la caméra ne rend JAMAIS justice. Dans l’épisode, les vagues ont l’air minuscules… mais en vrai, ça brassait pour vrai 🌊 Ce bateau-là nous a vraiment impressionnés. On ne pensait jamais dire ça d’un monocoque, mais il prend la mer avec une douceur surprenante. On s’est sentis en sécurité tout le long. On arrive en Corse juste avant le mistral. On se protège dans un mouillage parfait, bien entouré. In this episode we interview Dan and Julia, who went through a horrific ordeal in remote indoneisa, where Julia contracted malaria, and no one was able to diagnose her correctly until it was almost too late. Her organs started to shut down, and she puts her survival largely down to the fact that she got an emergency medevac flight back to australia for treatment. She is very lucky to be alive, and this is an eye opener for all of us traveling in these parts of the world…. Loneliness, isolation, great views, boating community, beach, boat hook, dill & basil, jump rope Boat life on Isabella can give us feelings of loneliness, isolation and it can also be exciting, fun and at times relaxing. Join us as we share our journey with you working on DIY projects, creating videos that sometimes get age restricted, growing herbs and playing at the beach. Karen is re-sanding the boat hook preparing it for coats of outdoor grade polyurethane. Meanwhile, Steve’s mind is racing with unknown thoughts as he watches her sanding technique. Reflecting on boat life we realize the boating community is extremely supportive and yet, sometimes there is a feeling of isolation. It really helps lift our spirits when family and friends come to visit and we reconnect with boat friends. Karen did some jump roping on the dock and at the beach.
