Dans cette vidéo, je vous partage d’abord quelques informations importantes sur les prochaines semaines et l’évolution de la chaîne. Puis direction Saint-Claude, au célèbre Bain Jaune, point de départ de mon ascension vers La Soufrière par le mythique chemin des Dames. Surnommée “La Vieille Dame”, la Soufrière est le point culminant des Petites Antilles, culminant à 1 467 mètres. Ce volcan actif a marqué l’histoire de l’île, notamment lors de l’éruption de 1976. Entre fumerolles, paysages volcaniques impressionnants et panoramas exceptionnels, l’expérience est unique. Après l’effort, place au plaisir ! Nous prenons le large vers Les Saintes à bord du voilier de Harry et Ketty. Didier nous a préparé un délicieux petit plat pour clôturer cette magnifique journée. What changed was my attitude. I decided to enjoy it instead of endure it. To laugh instead of complain. To move with it instead of fight it. And somehow, a day that could have been heavy turned into the best one of the trip so far. Today I had the first real problems. The kind that force you to stop, think, troubleshoot, and take responsibility. And it reminded me of something. I’m not out here because this is easy. It’s not. Hi and welcome aboard @SailingAstridTheWombat We are Gav and Shezz and two and a half years ago we bought our Beneteau Oceanis 430 sailboat with absolutely no sailing experience and jumped straight into the deep end of liveaboard sailing. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. I spent the last year in California. in this video I show some of the methodology used to organize a mooring field. After the season ended I worked on selling some art in wintertime, then I was hired to help move a 42ft sailboat from San Diego to Oxnard. San Diego is my home town (although I rarely stay there for more than a few months a year) so this was a longer stay than I would usually do.

This week, American Sailor co-host Whitney Kent sits down with US Sailing colleague and friend Betsy Allison. Betsy has worked at US Sailing for nearly two decades, currently leading the Adult Sailing department. She is a five time Rolex Yachtswoman of the Year winner and has dominated an array of different boat classes throughout her professional career. Betsy coached the most successful Paralympic sailing team of all time. In an ironic turn of events for the Hall of Fame racer, Betsy became a para athlete in 2022 after a battle with cancer. Shortly after her recovery, she was standing on top of the podium in the Netherlands at the 2023 Sailing World Championships with a gold medal around her neck.
