This week on Escapade, we’ve got a mix of thoughtful gifts, new skills to learn, and some exciting upgrades for the boat. A viewer and talented craftsman, Aaron from The Barefoot Sander, kindly sent us some beautiful handmade pieces for Escapade, including a custom spice rack that completely transforms our galley. It’s always amazing to see the support from this community, and Aaron’s craftsmanship fits perfectly onboard. Next, we pick up a second-hand Sailrite sewing machine, which means it’s finally time for us to learn how to sew and start repairing some of our own canvas. Before installing our new mainsail, we put the machine straight to work repairing our sail bag — our first real test learning how to use it. After that, it’s time for one of the upgrades we’ve been most excited about. We pick up our brand new custom mainsail, made by the incredible team at South East Asia Sails in Phuket, Thailand, and finally get it installed on Escapade. And to round out the upgrades, we install brand new Cromox 318L stainless steel anchor chain to pair with our trusted Rocna anchor — a serious ground tackle upgrade as we continue preparing Escapade for the adventures ahead. We'll start by exploring the incredible reefs and biodiversity of Raja Ampat before  before heading into the heart of the mighty Banda Sea, where we'll hop from remote volcanic islands and atolls. We'll spend time exploring the reefs of the Banda Islands, after which we will make our way into of the Lesser Sunda Islands (Lembata, Alor, Wetar) for the last stage of this tour. This is quite possibly the most epic liveaboard snorkeling adventure we have on offer!

In this video, I sail from Enkhuizen to Makkum, on to Terschelling and Texel, and finally back home to Marina Muiderzand, completing a 200-nautical-mile journey around North Holland. Along the way, I introduce my new onboard systems—chartplotter, wind meter, depth sounder, and autopilot—all connected and still a bit new to me. There are challenges: busy locks, strong current, trimming sails after a wake-up call, folding sails solo, grounding briefly outside the channel, and navigating traffic with large passenger ships. For my birthday treat this year I sailed our Chat 18 catamaran for the first time since before Christmas. A clean bottom and new antifouling did wonders for both speed and manouverability! I only sailed for a couple of hours, in part because the weather was worsening, but mainly because the tide was dropping and I needed to get back onto our beach mooring. It was a great sail, just touching 8 knots at times. In fact the whole area shown in this video dries out at low tide - it's called "West Mud" for a reason! A meno di un mese dalla scadenza, la nostra storica compagnia ci ha mandato una mail di disdetta improvvisa per Y2K. Nessun sinistro, nessuna spiegazione. E qui in Australia, se vuoi stare in un marina, sei obbligato ad avere una Polizza RC (Responsabilità Civile) con un massimale di ben 10 milioni di dollari, altrimenti vieni letteralmente "sfrattato". Inizia così la nostra disperata odissea tra dozzine di email, broker fantasma, preventivi folli e clausole assurde (vi sembra normale vietare la navigazione notturna a una barca a vela?!). Sembra che avere la bandiera italiana e vivere in barca navigando fuori dal Mediterraneo sia diventato un problema insormontabile. Dopo un mese di ansia, trattative sulle franchigie e preventivi costosissimi, abbiamo finalmente trovato una soluzione... ma a che prezzo? This was our first passage in our new boat, a HH52 Aft Helm (the first of the aft helm HH52's). We had a great passage full of fishing boats, calms, rough, laughs, smiles, frustrations and more. It's a learning curve and we're at the steep part. Overall a great passage in a great boat. We also got to do our fist test in our new Flow Tender, currently these are getting some serious real world testing before production commences.
