At the Annapolis Sailboat Show, our CEO Gwen Dorning had the opportunity to discover this South African-built bluewater cruising catamaran at its world premiere. Better still, she was lucky enough to get aboard for a sail on Chesapeake Bay! ► The yacht we tested (hull #2) had only just completed her Atlantic crossing from South Africa with her Owners. After 20 years sailing a 45-foot monohull, they decided to make the switch to a multihull, prioritizing comfort, safety and ease of handling for extended cruising. And who could blame them? "Our sea trial began in a light breeze, with just 6 knots of apparent wind," Gwen explains. What is a safe speed at sea, and who decides it? COLREGs Rule 6 explained: every factor of safe speed in the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREGs / IRPCS), shown with true-to-scale animation from the bridge. There is no speed limit in the rules of the road at sea. Instead, Rule 6 asks every officer of the watch one question: can I still take proper and effective action to avoid collision, and stop within the distance the situation allows? Un mese in Perù tra la Valle Sacra, Machu Picchu e Laguna Humantay: Machu Picchu non è tutto, ed è uno dei motivi per cui continuo a tornare in Perù. 🇵🇪 Dopo Qoyllurit'i mi sentivo sereno, in pace. Ho dedicato le ultime settimane a viaggiare e a capire cosa il Perù avesse ancora da dirmi. In questo capitolo del mio viaggio in Perù torno nella Valle Sacra, tra i luoghi che mi piacciono di più: Pisac, Ollantaytambo, Moray e Maras. Poi arrivo a Machu Picchu, una delle sette meraviglie del mondo, e salgo fino alla montagna Wayna Picchu. Chiudo il mio mese in Perù con un ultimo trekking in quota alla Laguna Humantay, a circa 4.200 metri, passando prima da Mollepata, il paesino da cui proveniva mio nonno materno. Perchè continuo a tornare in Perù: Ogni volta che torno osservo, scopro e imparo qualcosa di nuovo su questo paese, sul suo popolo e sulla sua cultura. Il Perù mi insegna. Alone on our Lagoon 400 catamaran in the Morro Jable marina at 44 °C: fitting two engine-room bilge pumps and a second autopilot for full redundancy before Cape Verde. Our Lagoon 400 came without bilge pumps in the engine rooms — if they flood, you either pump from the top or open a valve and let the water into the boat. So I bought two 2,000 GPH pumps and set about drilling the hull. Alone, because the blonde is in Italy. At sunset, because in the day it's 45 degrees. With Sikaflex that, it turns out, has an expiry date — mine expired in 2024 — so the only tube left was black, on a white boat. WD-40 helped. Then the engine room, which is not bigger than the ones on my body; a Victron Orion that has no power unless the engines are running; and two new cables I really didn't want to run. The pumps are in. Then the second autopilot — identical to the first, so B&G and Furuno each have their own and the whole system is redundant (you saw why in episode 119). Four cables through a protective pipe that was too tight, at 44.2 °C and 50% humidity, with a cable router designed by someone who hates people, a can of spray grease, and nobody to hold the other end. Seventy litres of sweat later: calibration, test… it's alive. WELLCRAFT 33 T-TOP: CARATTERISTICHE TECNICHE La nuova Wellcraft 33 T-Top supera i 10 metri di lunghezza, ma rientra nella categoria dei natanti, quindi in Italia non richiede l'immatricolazione obbligatoria. Con una larghezza di 2,90 metri e una potenza massima installabile di 600 CV, questa barca è progettata per chi cerca sportività, velocità e comfort. Durante i primi test effettuati dai tecnici Wellcraft, la barca avrebbe raggiunto circa 50 nodi, un dato preliminare che dimostra il potenziale di questo modello. POZZETTO DI POPPA: COMFORT E VERSATILITÀ Uno degli aspetti più interessanti della Wellcraft 33 T-Top è l'organizzazione degli spazi esterni. Il divano di poppa dispone di uno schienale completamente scorrevole che permette di trasformare la zona in un grande prendisole oppure in una comoda chaise longue. Il tavolo regolabile consente di creare una zona conviviale per pranzi, aperitivi e momenti di relax. Non manca una cucina esterna attrezzabile con frigorifero, lavello e piastra di cottura elettrica o a gas. ACCESSO AL MARE E DESIGN DEL T-TOP La terrazza laterale apribile facilita l'accesso all'acqua e rende ancora più piacevoli le giornate all'ancora. Particolarmente intelligente è la posizione dei montanti del T-Top, progettati per non ostacolare il passaggio verso prua. Il tetto rigido non sembra un accessorio aggiunto successivamente, ma è perfettamente integrato nel progetto originale della barca. PLANCIA DI COMANDO E PRESTAZIONI La postazione di guida della Wellcraft 33 T-Top presenta finiture sportive, strumentazione moderna e un'ergonomia studiata per la navigazione. Interessante il sistema di ventilazione naturale: alcune prese d'aria regolabili sfruttano il movimento della barca per convogliare aria fresca verso il pilota, senza bisogno di ventilatori elettrici. Una soluzione semplice, ma particolarmente efficace durante le giornate più calde. CABINA INTERNA: LETTO MATRIMONIALE E BAGNO Nonostante la vocazione sportiva e open, la Wellcraft 33 T-Top dispone di una vera cabina sottocoperta. L'accesso avviene attraverso un'apertura elettrica e all'interno troviamo un letto matrimoniale a prua e un locale bagno separato, completo di toilette e doccia. Una disposizione sorprendente per una barca T-Top di queste dimensioni, che permette di utilizzare l'imbarcazione anche per brevi crociere. WELLCRAFT 33 T-TOP: A CHI SI RIVOLGE? Questa nuova Wellcraft è pensata per chi desidera una barca veloce e sportiva, ma non vuole rinunciare alla comodità di una cabina, alla possibilità di trascorrere una notte a bordo e agli spazi per condividere il mare con famiglia e amici.
