In this video I talk about what I refer to as your second anchor, which should be an anchor you can easily run out in a dinghy. This anchor is particularly important to the engineless cruising sailor. I also demonstrate how to prepare the rode so that it pays out smoothly while you run the anchor out with the dinghy.

Two days into my first overseas trip disaster strikes! I discover the bobstay mount on the hull has failed and have to figure out a way to fix it. With whatever I could find on the boat I manage to make a passable repair and sail under mainsail only back to Australia. Blockheads Chapman Petersen and Jack Goggins visited Harken HQ to learn and apply essential rigging upgrades for their Optis. They met-up with local professional rigger Olli Lubker for help. First on the list was upgrading Jack's Opti mainsheet system. This involved adding what's commonly referred to as a "quick release" mainsheet. There are several different styles of these systems that use different parts and rigging methods. We sail to Shroud Cay first and are amazed by the beauty of the mangrove creeks that wind all the way across the island. We take our time exploring and lounging around on the different Cays in the park. We sail in the lee of the islands through Exuma Sound and go see the wild pigs on Pig Beach. We try to get in as much exploring as we can as we keep moving south on our sailing adventure.
