Unser Segelboot Squib, ein Catalac 9M, ist in die Jahre gekommen, die Verkleidung hängt teilweise von der Decke, die Farbe blättert ab, die Elektrik auf dem Stand des vorigen Jahrtausends,..... Ein Refit steht an. Doch Broterwerb und Verpflichtungen lassen es nicht zu, monatelang in Griechenland am Boot zu arbeiten. Da wird schon 2018 die Idee geboren Squib nach Wien zu bringen, wo man jederzeit Zugang hat, der Einkauf von Material in der Muttersprache abgewickelt werden kann und alles Andere seinen gewohnten Verlauf nimmt. 2021 war es dann endlich soweit, mit zwei komplett überholten Motoren und einem neuen Geräteträger starteten wir Anfang Juli Richtung Südfrankreich.Leider hatten wir für die gesamte Reise nur zwei Monate Zeit, deswegen hieß es die meiste Zeit Strecke machen. Doch manchmal nahmen wir uns die Zeit zu verweilen, uns Orte näher anzuschauen. Seitdem lag Squib in der Wiener Kuchelau, und der Refit hatte begonnen. Am 17 August 2025 ist es wieder so weit. Obwohl Squib noch nicht ganz fertig ist, werfen wir die Leinen los und starten unsere erste Etappe donauabwärts. Dreieinhalb Wochen später erreichen wir das Donaudelta, der Mast wird gestellt, ein passendes Wetterfenster abgewartet, in zwei Sclägen überqueren wir das Schwarze Meer bis zum Bosporus. Ohne Einzuklarieren mit gehisster Q Flagge durchqueren wir die Türkei und erreichen 5 Tage später die Ägäis. Über Limnos und die nördlichen Sporaden segeln wir bis in den Großraum Athen, von wo aus Sabina nach Hause fliegt, weil ihr Urlaub zu Ende ist. Sunshine Express S4 EP 07 La vie en mer, c’est la liberté… mais aussi des rappels brutaux que rien n’est jamais acquis. Cette vidéo commence sous l’eau, lors d’une session de chasse sous-marine. Une pratique magnifique, mais qui comporte des risques — et qui nous rappelle à quel point la faire à plusieurs est plus sécuritaire… et surtout plus agréable. Puis, la météo nous offre un spectacle aussi fascinant qu’impressionnant : quatre trombes marines passent tout près de notre ancrage. Un phénomène rare, puissant, qui te remet vite à ta place. Entre ces moments intenses, il y a aussi la vie de famille à bord, les petits instants simples qui font tout le sel de cette aventure. Le lendemain matin, une annexe vient nous chercher en urgence : 👉 un voilier voisin a touché un récif et est littéralement en train de couler. On se mobilise pour aider, et cet événement nous pousse à réfléchir sérieusement à nos propres moyens d’urgence pour évacuer l’eau de mer si un jour, ça nous arrivait. Et puis… la mer sait aussi offrir des cadeaux. La rencontre avec Anabelle et Anibal. Des gens avec qui tout est devenu naturel, simple, honnête. Une soirée pizza chez Ibin, puis quelques jours plus tard un feu sur Morrodub — BBQ Island, des guimauves, des rires, de la joie pure. Il y a de rares fois où, sans trop savoir pourquoi, tu rencontres des gens et tout est fluide. Le plus difficile, c’est de savoir que le sablier coule, que ces rencontres sont éphémères, et que tôt ou tard viendra le moment de dire un vrai adieu — celui qu’on ne prononce qu’une seule fois. C’est comme ça sur l’eau. En attendant, on profite. On vit ces moments à fond. Et ils nous sortent, un peu, de la solitude que la mer impose parfois.

My resilience was being severely tested here in Tarrafal do Santiago. It was Mother Nature's turn to come down hard on the town and me. Intense rain fell non-stop for hours. I took it as a good sign. It washed the boat and I filled up with fresh rain water. That was all that was good. More bad luck came my way because of the rain. It busted my outboard. And I couldn't get my computer working. This week in Linton Bay Panama we explored the mangroves in search of wildlife, hiked to a lighthouse with boat friends and visited a sweet lone monkey. But, during a storm one night, tradegy struck. Someone cut through our dinghy and stole it while we slept. We are so fortunate to have great friends on SV Wilma that lent us their dinghy for a few days and oldest daughter as a translator. Just when we thought things were going to quiet down a barge let loose in the anchorage and began drifting towards nearby anchored boats. The sailing community really came together to save the day!

Welcome to Bermuda, the land of historic turquoise waters, white sand beaches, cathedrals, caves, underwater caverns, and the Bermuda Triangle platter at “Wahoos” restaurant. We rented a car (if you can call it that), and went to explore Spanish Point, Admiralty House Park and Tunnels And Crystal Caves The grand finale? A boat dragging anchor. Spanish Point was evidently named after the Spanish ship that first explored the reefs. Admiralty House Tunnels were dug by a captain that reach from the cove to the house. The large circular room was just for fun at parties. Crystal Caves were discovered In 1907 by Carl Gibbon and Edgar Hollis while playing cricket.  When the ball disappeared into a hole the boys went to retrieve it. But the hole kept getting deeper and deeper. They had discovered was the entrance to the natural wonder of these underground caverns. Owned by Wilkonson family since 1884, they set up a research trip to find out how deep it went. A 14 year old was lowered into the hole by his father using a strong rope tied to a tree 140 feet down. With just a bicycle lamp, he witnessed the magnificent splendor of the crystal formations around a lake 55 ft deep. Even Mark Twain visited - twice - and described the shining stalactites, thousands and thousands of them as white as sugar, and thousands and thousands brown and pink and other tints. The caves were also used in the film Neptune’s Daughter. Meanwhile in St. George's Harbor, we got to wait out a 24-hour 45-knot wind storm in the anchorage that had everyone on alert, while we watched a boat drag anchor and hit another boat. Evidently the captain had gone ashore to check in. We have a rule - we don’t leave the boat in bad weather. No exceptions.
