*We scrubbed this video after it had uploaded out of respect for the privacy of the seller of Ata Marie, who does not want to be included on video, and because of this there may be some strange edits and blurry spots* We recently sold our Nordhavn 40 and just a week later closed the deal on the purchase of a Nordhavn 56 Motorsailer and are starting to get settled in on the new boat. In this video, we talk about moving onto the new boat, show some details about the pre-purchase survey and discuss some plans for the future. The 56 motorsailer is a unique boat and Nordhavn only built 8 of them. We are super excited about the boat and while it will be a learning experience for us to move to a boat with a sailing rig, we hope to share the many benefits of a boat like this as we start cruising on her. Please subscribe to our channel to follow our adventures on this new boat. We are heading toward the Panama Canal in early April 2019 and hope to be posting new videos a lot more regularly. Following Simon Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/finding_simon/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/findingsimon Website: http://simonstiles.com/ Asking Simon - Who are you? I'm a Canadian photographer from Ottawa who got rid of everything to travel the world. I make vlogs sharing my ups and downs, and my adventures in vans, on motorbikes, and on sailboats. - Who is Champ? Champ is my handsome 14-year-old Labrador, who travelled almost everywhere with me for his whole life. He loves chin scratches, fetching sticks, and scarfing down cheeseburgers and pizza. - What camera equipment do you use? I use a Panasonic FZ2500, a DJI Mavic Pro, a Rode video micro with Deadcat, a Zihyun Crane 3 Axis Gimbal, as well as DIY tripods and lights. - What are your vehicles? I drove a 1992 Dodge Ram B350 camper van all over North America for about two years. Travelling by motorcycle made for some unique trips. I explored the Canadian Maritimes (and deserts and backroads all over the continent) on a 2002 Kawasaki KL250 Super Sherpa dual sport bike, and also rode my 1999 Yamaha V-Star XVS1100 cruiser with a Champion Escort sidecar across my home country twice. From land to water travels: I currently live and work on a 1979 Wharram Oro 47 catamaran. - What are your plans with the boat? I will fix it up, run it on nothing but green electric power, and sail off into the sunset. Stay tuned for the growing build and the adventures to come! - How do you find all these cool places we see in the videos? To gain access to my complete research and the world traveller’s map I curate during my explorations off the beaten path, you need to hit me up on Patreon. Here are a few websites I frequent: https://freecampsites.net/, https://www.campendium.com/, http://www.atlasobscura.com/, https://www.couchsurfing.com/ - How do you afford your lifestyle? I live and travel economical by using free camping and mooring, cooking my own meals, thoroughly researching products and how-to’s online, practicing a DIY approach, and being as efficient as possible with my resources. I've struggled financially for most of my life, and although I'm blessed with helpful friends and family as well as being able-bodied, white and male, I don't subscribe to the belief that you need someone footing your bills in order to pursue your passion. So, I learned that you DO need to sacrifice comfort, consistency, safety, and a traditional career but that it IS possible, worth it, and the only lifestyle that makes me happy. I make my income almost entirely by creating content for YouTube, but it's a tight budget. Ad revenue, business sponsors, affiliate links, Patreon, Paypal donations, and merchandise sales bring in about as much as a part-time job, and I'm able to make that work. When it isn't enough, I go back to regular work such as photography, videography or construction, but that takes the focus away from my own projects. - How does your dog fit into this lifestyle? It's really not as difficult as people seem to think. I spend most of the day with Champ anyways, since we enjoy similar things, like eating food and being outdoors. I let the constraint of bringing my dog with me help me make decisions about where I go and what I do, so I avoid places that ban dogs, and therefore spend more time in nature instead of in cities. - How do you make it work as a digital nomad? My electrical power set-up allows charging my camera and laptop to film and edit almost daily. For Internet access quick and reliable enough to upload my episodes a few at a time, I use coffee shops and libraries. I also use a data package on my phone (10GB), a WiFi antenna, and a WiFi booster.

We've been going for three years straight now. At first we were working full time jobs and building on nights and weekends to support ourselves and pay for the build. Recently the support has been strong enough for us to be able to work full time on the project but we were still held back on how much time we could work due to the amount of energy that goes into editing the videos we put out. This meant we were only working when both of us could be in the boathouse. Considering the videos took a good chunk of a week to edit (for a novice video editor... not bad) that meant we only got to work about two weeks a month. We've been wanting to change this for a long time and we are finally pulling the trigger. We hired on a video editor who will now be part of the team, editing all of our footage. This will free us both to be able to work whenever we choose, which means getting a lot more work done. AND that also means we are going to try to ramp up to doing weekly videos so that you can all see more progress, more often! However, we are really jumping the gun on this one. We are really tightening up the belt for this and dipping into funds (Ben our editor as well). So we need your help. A lot of work goes into sharing these videos (build work, but also planning, shooting, producing, editing, etc) but we never want to put them behind a pay wall so that only those able to pay for it can see them. If you find any enjoyment or benefit in the videos we create and share, please consider donating to help keep them coming. And if you can't support monetarily, consider telling people you think would enjoy these videos so we can grow our presence. Every little bit helps! If you would like to help via continued support, you can do so per video on Patreon ( http://www.patreon.com/acorntoarabella ). You have control over how much you donate per video and can set a cap on how much you donate per month (can be as little as $1). OR If you would prefer to make one time donations, you can do so through our website http://www.acorntoarabella.com You can donate via card or Paypal. We've already got an amazing community and we are sure that we can grow this into something much bigger than it already is. So, thank you very much for all the support! Alix + Steve Acorn to Arabella Journey of a Wooden Boat --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve and Alix started as amateur boat builders building their own 38' wooden boat in their backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when they will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The main focus this year has been our Alaska and British Columbia cruise and with all the traveling we’ve done, boat projects and maintenance have had to wait. But we’re going to tackle all that now when we’ll be in Seattle for a while. First up is our chain locker! We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat RAN, a custom built Beason 40 in aluminium, untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter, January 2016, and started sailing south along the coast of Europe. Apresento uma amostra do que foi a construção da maquete do nosso barco voador a motor. Exploramos o ganho de uma plataforma profilada em um catamarã, fazendo um asa que contribui com a sustentação do barco no ar. Espero muito que gostem!

We are almost there! Our goal of sailing up the east coast of Australia is within reach. All we need to do now is install this fridge, these batteries, solar panels, davits, dinghy, water tanks, waste tanks and wire up all the electrics!! Then a sail to Sydney's middle harbour and back to test everything out. The return journey will see captain Koala dismiss all weather warnings to take on a ten foot swell.... Yew! Playing around with some skipper friends, and doing the Q&A session #2 Enjoy! Questions Q&A #2 1. What do you do with trash on long passages 2. How do you find the money and the time to make such a trip ? Most of people would never be able to do something like this not because it seems dangerous but because it very expensive . 3. How do you find work so easily when you arrive in a harbor? 4. As a guy who sails around the world? what do you think about the flat earth theory? 5. For someone whos never even boated before.. The amount of things you would need to know, where do you even start? 6. How was sailing a catamaran compared to a Monohull 7. Just install an electric motor you dumbass Questions Q&A #1 1. Do u have to show passports when you dock ? 2. You cross the Atlantic ,with that tiny thing?! What if there was a storm?? 3. Where do you poo? 4. Ain't you afraid of pirates? I mean, for real. Some bad people armed and in a bigger boat just find you in the middle of the sea and just rob you. 5. You need a bigger ship 6. What material do you use for filming? 7. Why don’t you have a patreon? 8. Don’t you have a job you need to attend? 9. When offshore alone, how do you sleep? Auto helm with radar warning or small boat big ocean theory. 10. do you ever capsize? 11. How do you upload videos? 12. Can i join u on a trip? This looks too good 13. that is not rough seas. If they were rough you would either not have a sail anymore because it broke or you reatreated the sails before they broke TURN ON SUBTITLES: Henry is french, so am I, so sometimes, guess what, we speak french. Like to see beautiful natural features like hongs, cavers, tunnels, majestic rocks? Best is to visit the area over several days with your boat (your own or one you charter) … next best way is to go on day trips with smaller companies that try to avoid the busy times at busy places … best to go early or late in the day and avoid WE and school holidays … to better enjoy this pristine nature! Filmed in between January & March 2019.

35 miles from land and halfway across the Great Bahama Bank, we anchor overnight. Anchoring overnight on the Great Bahama Bank is something that you do not want to take lightly. Depending on sea conditions, it can be a magical and peaceful experience, or it could be once of the worst nights of your life. We choose to anchor right next to a very shallow spot called Mackie Shoal. By doing this, we increase our chances of avoiding nighttime shipping traffic because they invariably avoid the shoal. Essentially, in order for them to hit is in the middle of the night, they would have to be sailing over the shoal, and that doesn't happen - we hope. We also light up the boat really well using solar lanterns that we make sure are fully charged up during the day. Finally, the reason we choose to stop here is because the days are much shorter in the winter months and we prefer not to sail at night. By anchoring at Mackie Shoal on The Great Bahama Bank, we are able to have a nice break halfway through our banks crossing to rest up and then pick up where we left off on the next day. Virginia finally gets her custom designed mermaid tattoo! Steve's design was just a bit too... provocative. Our buddy Leo, however, took Duke's cues (like drawing a flowing mermaid tail from a betta fish) and drew something amazing. So, Virginia spent a few hours getting some much needed ink therapy.
