Needing to get a heap of things fabricated for our refit, lets go to the land of GSD (Get Sh$t Done) https://www.sailingnandji.com In this episode of Sailing Nandji, our refit is moving forward in leaps and bounds. With the engine room overhauled and the bow rebuilt, we have run into a wall as Chinese New year fast approaches and majority of the businesses in Langkawi shut down for 2 weeks. The lead up to the New year everyone was in holiday mode already and we could not get anything built. Uncle Kevin to the rescue!!! We load up his vessel with everything needed to be remade and a list of items needed to be purchased and off we go sailing to Thailand! With no sailing experience, we bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing around the Pacific! We have just sailed 2000nm through Indonesia and have arrived to Malaysia to complete major boat work, ready for the next big adventure. We departed Australia 18 months ago and have since explored some amazing countries, met some beautiful people and experienced different cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our life doing it! The adventure is just beginning as we sail West with the trades! SUBSCRIBE TO OUR CHANNEL. https://www.youtube.com/c/frothlyfesailingnandji CLICK THE BELL to know when NEW Nandji videos are up! Earlier this year I was given the honour of attending the Benetti YachtMaster event in Viareggio. I was asked to interview two highly experienced Captain's in particularly regarding their experiences at Benetti and how this may benefit other Captains. It was a wonderful opportunity to observe the high regard that Benetti hold for these important industry professionals, but also to get to know two experienced Captains a little better: Capt. David Davidson, and Capt. Mario Lodovico Salani.

Season 4 | Episode 61 | Sailing to Cat Harbor Hello Friends! On This episode we bid farewell to Little Harbor and all its magic and enjoy a slow sail to Catalina Harbor. Catalina Harbor, or Cat Harbor as its called by the locals, is part of the Isthmus and Two Harbors. On the side of the island facing the mainland is Isthmus Cove and on the southwestern side or backside of the island lays Cat Harbor. Only a mile of soil separates the two. Cat Harbor is the only true natural "Hurricane Hole" in Southern California and has been used for centuries by ships riding out sou'easters or as we know them today "The Santa Anas". Coming in we experienced quite a venturi effect as the winds increased dramatically just inside the entrance to Cat Harbor forcing us to head back out and drop our mainsail. We pick up a mooring ball for our stay and went ashore and had dinner before turning in for a quiet night on a mooring. If you enjoy the videos and the podcast please consider becoming a Patron at as low as a dollar and episode. In this episode we talk about some of the expenses involved with sailing a hurricane damaged boat full time. We talk about our previous jobs and how we afforded to buy the boat in the first place, and how we have afforded to sail for almost a year full time. Then we introduce our new Patreon account which we have finally started, which is a way for fans to support what we do, and enable us to continue to make videos for you guys, which we will reward by offering a FREE week of sailing with us to 3 Patrons and their companions, every 6 months! We also want to give our email addresses and phone number out to people who pledge, so that we can form a tight knit community sharing information and getting to know each other as the Parlay Revival Family. SV Parlay is a hurricane damaged 2012 Lagoon 450 Catamaran bought in Tortola, BVI at the beginning of 2018. Colin and his friend spent 4 months getting her seaworthy, before setting sail across the Caribbean. Follow our journey as we continue to fix her and eventually circumnavigate the globe! #swimming #sealife We have the girls on board of Ocean Fox. Rafaela and Jessica enjoy us for a week on the boat. We have a BBQ on the beach as we love it. We get a net around the prop and Simon dives in to take it of. Carla speaks about the changes we made on the galley since we made the program about the plastic in the Ocean. We are really enjoying this life and share everything with you it's been wonderful . Thank you very much, you guys are amazing. Much love Carla & Simon A little bit about us... We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, fifteen months after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. But for these people it's a dream, or may not even be a dream. We will look around and when the opportunity to help comes we will put our hands and hearts in to it. Much love Carla and Simon

Drew and Ash spend time with us aboard S/V Meri in the Abaco Islands. We get a chance to show our kids some of our favorite places. Even with a day of bad weather we have a wonderful time together. We have some great sailing as well as hiking, biking, snorkeling, body surfing, beach combing, and generally enjoying each others company.

Awhile back we decided we wanted to use the v-berth solely as storage, however that soon proved to be a mistake. Although sleeping on the main salon pull-out settee worked for a while, It was very inconvenient to not have a dedicated sleeping area on the boat and when we redid the cushions, the sleeping situation became very uncomfortable. Left with the options to either redo the salon cushions, or make progress towards converting back the v-berth from storage, we chose the latter. With Randi working full time for a while now, I'm back to working full time on boat projects. I'm going to be doing tons of work on this boat in the coming months, so stay tuned for a lot of DIY boat work! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Not-A-Broker Consulting: https://www.patreon.com/notabrokerconsulting Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/learningthelines Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/learningthelines ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Learning the Lines is a channel about us, an average couple in our 20's, with big dreams to be sailing the world by the time we're in our 30's. SailFest Newcastle Day 2 was hit with a "Gale Warning" and reghtfully all offshore crews were held ashore and in the afternoon the local Youth Teams raced off in Elliotts and then the TP52 team reps raced off for the rights to challenge the Youth Team winners. It was all in good fun and the crews and spectators enjoyed the resulting mayhem, oh sorry, competition. We interviewed Paul Orourke the CEO of the Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club, Tom Slingsby the World Gold Medal Champion, , Michael Martin Owner of the yacht "Frantic" andTerry Wetton of the TP 52 association who explains the origons of the "Gold Cup."

Conheça as principais ancoragens do Rio Grande do Sul. #lagoadospatos #riograndedosul #veleiro

It took them 29 hours with little to no drama. After exploring the West coast of Puerto Rico, they head East along the Southern coast of Puerto Rico. Since the journey is dead east, it's best to make small "jumps" before the trade winds start blowing. The plan was to leave at sunrise and go until 10:00 am. We leave the bay of islands and sail to Great Barrier and put Town Fox on the piles so we can scrub the bottom. Then we leave for Great Mercury Island and explore the area. We are a family of six who are taking some time out of normal life to travel. We’ve pulled the kids from school and are home schooling while on the road and the water. We spend time aboard our 34ft sailing boat in NZ and have bought a motorhome in Europe so as to tour the other side of the world. We’re keeping our memories on video here and the kids write narration and play guitars so we have music to use in the videos.

The engine like on our 2004 Lincoln LS went off after doing this simple repair to EGR Valve on our car. Most engine lights I have seen seem to be related to emissions and some can be a challenge to fix. If you don't have a code reader you can rest the ECU by removing power to the car. We took the car to Advance Auto Parts to read the error code, if you want you own ECU reader I would look here on Amazon. What is an EGR valve, and how does it work? “EGR” stands for exhaust gas recirculation. When engine combustion temperatures near 2500°F, the formation of smog-producing nitrogen oxides (NOx) increases. Exhaust, however, is mostly composed of carbon dioxide (CO2), which does not burn. The function of the EGR valve is to recirculate small amounts of exhaust back into the combustion chambers of the engine in order to decrease the combustion temperature, thereby reducing the formation of smog-producing nitrogen oxides. EGR valves can malfunction by becoming stuck open or closed due to carbon buildup. When an EGR valve malfunctions CO2 is reintroduced to the combustion chamber at the incorrect time or in incorrect amounts, which does not decrease the combustion temperature sufficiently enough to prevent the increase of NOx. When does an EGR valve need to be replaced? Symptoms of a malfunctioning EGR valve include: Check Engine Light is on Pinging and/or knocking sounds Rough idle Reduced power Reduced fuel economy Engine stalling/hesitation when accelerating Tools + Parts Checklist: EGR Valve "If Cleaning Does Not Work" Diagnostic Tool "Parts stores may test your car" Socket Set + Ratchet Wrenches "Cresent Wrench" How To Replace EGR Valve: Put the vehicle in park and apply the emergency brake. Consult your owner’s/repair manual to locate the EGR valve. Turn off the engine and disconnect the battery. Inspect all vacuum lines for rips, tears, and holes. Replace as necessary. Remove the vacuum line from the EGR valve. Remove the bolts that hold the EGR valve to the cylinder head. Remove the EGR valve. Be careful to protect the open cylinder head from any debris. Bolt on the new EGR valve and attach the vacuum line. Reconnect the battery. "If Cleaning Does Not Work" Start the car and use the diagnostic tool to check for any codes and reset the check engine light. "Can Rest By Removing Power To Car" Do a test drive to ensure the engine is running and idling smoothly. #chrisdoeswhat #dininginwithdanielle #homaidchef

After flying our gennaker we decide to go anchoring in Lake Erie once again. We find the perfect anchorage next to Welland Canal in Gravely Bay. We dinghy to the breakwall and walk around. Unfortunately, the rainy fall weather brings some not so nice surprises and forces us to do more boat projects like rebedding of leaky portlights and chainplates. And we enjoy a fun evening sail while fishing on Lake Erie. 0:29 Replacing our old air filter 0:49 Flying our gennaker 1:25 Anchoring in Lake Erie 4:44 Storm at Sugarloaf marina 6:31 Good news 7:18 Fixing our JABSCO marine head 8:11 Saying goodbye to Tom a good friend of ours 8:58 More sailboat projects 10:32 Rebedding chainplates 11:25 Rebedding portlights 13:59 Sunset fishing on Lake Erie If you like what you see don't forget to give us the thumbs up! #wildlyintrepidsailing #anchoringinLakeErie #liveaboardsailboat ***************************************** Help the videos stay alive by becoming a patron or donating. TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION Deck and Hull Construction The deck, hull and interior module on a Maxi 95 are constructed from fibreglass using the spray method of construction. They are manufactured by first spraying a gelcoat layer into a form. This is a special plastic which has very little water penetration. Against this surface layer a polyester plastic layer and fibreglass threads are sprayed. The fibreglass threads are cut into short bundles. By building up the thickness whilst spraying a soft transformation between the different thicknesses required in different parts of the boat is achieved. A great deal of attention is directed at ensuring the correct thicknesses in the hull and deck so that the greatest possible strength is combined with the best weight distribution in the boat. The sprayed materials are rolled out very carefully, so that all air pockets are eliminated. To guarantee the greatest possible strength against all the forces that the boat will be exposed to in heavy seas, the Maxi 95 is reinforced with a thick weave of fibreglass threads on all places where extra strength is necessary. These reinforcements are done by hand and are cast in plastic. When all air has been rolled out of the material it is hardened to a homogeneous and strong construction. The propeller shaft passage, skin fittings and some iron components used for reinforcement are laminated into the hull and deck, by this these are strongly secured into the boat’s construction. Hull In the hull the lead keel is cast into the keel pocket. An internal unit made from fibreglass armed plastic is fixed into the hull. This follows the contour of the hull, and is laminated onto the hull. On top of this a special plastic compound is cast in between the hull and the interior module. When the interior module is hardened together onto the hull at all points of contact a homogeneous material is achieved. The hull and interior module together form an extremely rigid construction, which adds to the good sailing performance for a Maxi 95. Deck The deck also consists of a double construction “sandwich”, which gives high strength and stability. A certain thickness is built up and rolled free from air. A sandwich core is the placed on the horizontal deck surfaces. One more layer of armed plastic is then built up. When the construction is hardened and the deck is removed from the form a light and rigid construction results. The deck is the laminated to the hull by hand along the complete toe rail. Additionally a special insert of plastic is squeezed in between the adjoining surfaces. The deck and hull are then hardened together to achieve a homogeneous construction.

In really heavy weather I have tried to reef the main sail. My opinion is that if you choose to reef the main sail you will experience heavy weather in a much calmer fashion. When reefing the main sail the long line (delivered in the sail bag) is made fast to the stainless steel eye at the end of the boom. The line is then pulled through the outer reefing point clew in the sail. The line is then pulled through the cars on the track located on the other side of the boom and pulled forward to the cleat located on the boom near the mast. Releasing the tension on the ??? and the main halyard allows the inner reefing clew to be hooked on to the reefing hook on the boom. The reefing line is then tightened hard so that the sail is laying close to the boom. The main is the hoisted and the ??? tightened. Note: a few mast track slides must be removed from the mast track when reefing.

MAXI 95 wind 25 I'm considering the purchase of a Maxi 95. These boats seem to have a great reputation as a sea boat, and from all accounts, despite being made for the med, they perform very well in heavy weather.

Episode 40 Well, as promised here's this weeks episode for you guys. We hope you like it. We finished up last weeks ep as we arrived in the British Virgin Islands. What a place! Unfortunately, the BVI took the brunt of Hurricane Irma and many of the islands saw winds of up to 217mph. The devastation is heart breaking. The BVI was home to many of the world's charter catamarans and it seems to us that cats get hit harder by big winds, they get lifted up and flipped over whereas mono hulls get rolled over and washed ashore. We counted over 30 yachts washed ashore just in Trellis Bay on Tortola alone! There were 60' catamarans upside down up a hill in Road Harbour where most of the cats are berthed. We tried to island hop and see as much as we could but there isn't anywhere that wasn't hit hard by the hurricane. Starting east at Virgin Gorda, to have a quick Bath then heading west and downwind. Hayley's maiden name was Cooper so of course we had to go visit there and it turned out to be a great place to hide from the wind for a few days. Our friends who crossed the Atlantic with us were headed for The Bight on Norman Island which is normally home to the famous Willy T's floating bar but of course this didn't survive Irma either so we made our own fun! We helped our friends with their boat issues for a change and I took the kids for their first scuba dive using AquaFrolics shiny new hookah diving system. No diving for pregnant Hayley unfortunately! Thanks for following our adventure, we make these vids for you guys so please don’t forget to leave us a comment and a thumbs up.
