We find a serious Keel Problem + we need to Repair this sailboat: Something is actually missing from our keel! Fiberglass keel repairs are underway! Error: Foam in a can is NOT open cell foam as stated in the video. Polyester resin will eat up Polystyrene foam. Patrick Childress, after 12 years on his second circumnavigation explains what does when he finds out we are missing the proper amount of structural foam in our keel... When sitting on the hard, this problem can cause a sailboat keel to oil can, or even crack, when its blocked in the unsound section of the keel. Patrick then shows the process for the keel repair. Sailboat Keel repair can be done diy, it just takes some sailboat diy knowledge, time and effort and the right tools. We have been sailing around the world for 12 years on our sailboat Brick House, a Valiant 40. We are hauled out of the water , and it’s time to fix and upgrade a few things on this 41 year old boat! We received a lot of valuable technical support from AMT Composites, and will be using a number of products they recommended, imported from all over the world, namely Gurit Fiberglass Resin which is very comparable to West Systems. They seem to have all the supplies we need for this fiberglass keel repair, as well as for our blister repair, epoxy barrier coat, and right down to the paintbrushes! They supply the materials for many of the major boatbuilders in South Africa, and are highly respected among the professionals here. https://www.amtcomposites.co.za ▬▬ FOLLOW ALONG! ▬▬ ✩Instagram: http://www.Instagram.com/svBrickHouse ✩ Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/SYBrickhouse ✩ Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/SVBrickhouse ✩Our blog: :http://www.WhereIsBrickHouse.com ✩Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/PatrickChildress ✩Tshirts and other: https://www.WhereIsBrickHouse.com/store Wish we were on Patreon? I sail from the Isle of Man south to Ireland, and then onto 4 ports in Wales as I continue my journey toward home in France. I question the roll/yaw stability of my boat compared to more classic designs with a full keel; I try to develop a strategy for how often to tack (long legs, or short legs); and I transit a lock in Milford Haven Wales. I film 4 dockings.

I am getting my sailboat Karl ready for the next solo sail to Ecuador in Bahía Solano. It seems like I had a little guardian angle looking after Karl whilst I was on a short visit home in Germany. Unfortunately, this little protector also thought of Karl as his private toilet...shit! Both Joana and Karl have an aditional stern anchor out because of the crazy roll and tidal currents which makes fuelling up and filling the water tanks a bit of a challenge. Karl's sails need some more stitching and I try out my little speedy stitch that I found in one of my boxes. Well well well, at least Karl seems ready for the 500nm solo sail dowm to Ecuador... Enjoy & Ahoy, Nike & Karl Download the full movie at www.UntieTheLines.com You can support our videos here: www.patreon.com/WhiteSpotPirates or https://www.paypal.me/whitespotpirates For real-time updates, visit: http://www.facebook.com/whitespotpirates http://www.instagram.com/whitespotpirates For background information on the journey visit www.WhiteSpotPirates.com Thanks for watching, liking, sharing and supporting these videos! Every little bit helps! --- This is NOT a live documentary! There is a time difference between filming and publishing due to the time it takes to send data home, to edit the episodes and to internet not always being awailable on those little remote palm tree islands :)

Let's make it happen St. Lucia!!! Did you know that Brady actually looks like Paul Walker? Or that you can cook a 10lb turkey in a boat oven powered by lithium batteries? Well, neither did we, but according to local bean sorter Lil' Fiz he's a dead ringer, and according to Capt. Brian you can indeed cook a turkey on a boat :) . After getting checked into St. Lucia the girls decide to go for a horseback ride, and the boys decide to laze around and do, well to be honest, absolutely nothing. Our plans of nothingness are interrupted when we get a visit from the crew of Poly, a crazy Polish family living on their trimaran Poly and sailing the high seas. https://www.youtube.com/sailoceans They entice us with cherry flavored vodka and an apparently unlimited supply of rum. At some point Brian wakes up in the middle of the night to find our water system has sprung a leak, and the water pump is busy pumping our drinking water straight into the bilge. Huge bummer, and not a great way to start the morning. After a quick fix we decide to cook a turkey feast on Delos complete with all the fixings proving once and for all, YES- you can cook a full turkey on a boat. Wanna bing watch? We have 6 seasons of videos going all the way back to the beginning of the adventure- https://svdelos.com/youtube-sailing-videos/ We’re completely crowd-funded and not beholden to the pressures of advertisers or corporate sponsors. We get to try out and review products without bias, and continue to spread warmth and positivity.  All contributions go directly to support sailing, video editing, and of course a few cold ones to smooth the editing process. Thank you for keeping our videos free and available for everyone! Seriously, you rock. https://svdelos.com/beer Music is one of the hardest things about bringing our episodes together! We are launching into planking soon but before we get into all that, we really wanted to do a little house cleaning video. We get so many questions about the project and it's not always easy to address them all in the subsequent videos. So, right now seemed like a good time to answer a few of those questions and clear them up before moving into another chapter of the build. We'll be talking about the weight of the floors, the engine, how we measure in the vessel, talk about one of our friend's restoration projects, a few new major tools we were just kindly donated, what rig we are going with and why.... and finally, we address the common comment about replanting trees. We love the fact that you all have such good questions regarding the build and are that engaged with what we are doing. We love sharing this and hope that you enjoy the information in this video despite the lack of work being shown. Trust us, there is PLENTY of fun stuff coming up! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve and Alix started as amateur boat builders building their own 38' wooden boat in their backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when they will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We are also launching our newest shirt campaign for summer of 2019 which will feature the planking tools on the back. If you are interested in purchasing those, orders will be taken at the link below for the next two weeks and then shipped once the campaign closes. Thank you for the support!! We continue our sail south along the west coast of the US. Our destination is Coos Bay in southern Oregon which has a river bar we have to cross. This coast is infamous for dangerous river bars so let’s see how it goes! We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. Sailing out to Lady Musgrave Island on the Great Barrier Reef was an exciting prospect, our first reef atoll visit since New Caledonia and our first glimpse of the famous Great Barrier Reef. A 55 mile overnight sail to the island brought us to a paradise for wildlife. The island is a nature reserve and is stunning both above and below the water. We are a British couple who set off from England in 2016 to fulfill our dream of sailing around the world on our 37ft sail boat, Florence. Storms, wind in the wrong direction, difficulty staying on course. sailing in the middle of the Pacific is taking it's toll on boat and crew. #sailaroundtheworld #sailacrossthepacific Thank you for watching this episode, please give us a thumbs up and subscribe. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V770 with a Rode External mic. My old camera is now my number 2 is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. Margarida greets the day by swimming to the nearby island. I find a stick (yeah I know I am talented) and make a wakeboarding handle and we teach Margarida how to wakeboard. We are on the way to getting her skill level up to tackle kiteboarding. We enjoy deep fried snapper over the bbq which although filling up our arteries saves my life from a falling coconut. A happy girl on board means she must have happy hair so we go through Margarida's routine and I take on being her slave for the hair and grooming process. Living on a boat has its sacrifices but who wouldn't want a lifesize doll to wash and brush her hair well for a little while anyway. Give it thumbs a up if you liked this episode! This week we share how we stocked up on food, which initially appeared to be a daunting task. But after having coffee with 2 of the ARC ladies I met in Cape Town when they gave me loads of tips and ideas, having sailed for 21 and 8 years respectively, it turned out a breeze, and I would like to share the experience with you. We prepared our Leopard 45 Catamaran cruising yacht to sail around the world. We want to visit off the beaten tack places and need to prepare for ice bergs, storms, heavy seas, as well as nice tranquil tropical waters... Follow us on our journey as we learn from legends when Sailing La Vagabonde upgraded from a monohull to a catamaran...SV Delos wants to upgrade to the latest Amel 51 monohull....Gone with the Wynns chose a Leopard Catamaran....choices choices choices. We looked at other sailing channels such as Wicked Salty, Satori, Jessica and Ryan, Catamaran Impi, MJ Sailing, Happy Together, Sailing Uma, Sailing Yacht Ruby Rose, Zingaro, Miss Lone Star, Sailing Doodles, Drenched, Lucky Fish gets Away, RAN Sailing, Out Chasing Star, Follow the Boat, Rigging Doctor, Sailing Lady Africa, Abandon Comfort, and many others to find our answers and solutions, whilst we prepared our yacht in Cape Town, South Africa. SUBSCRIBE and hit the bell for sailing videos! https://bit.ly/30fOfck Watertoys are important on a sailboat, specially if you are cruising all year long. We tried the electric surfboard Carver by Onean and it is pretty cool. Checkout our review. ########################################## We are a family of 3, Lithuanian and French couple currently living in Dubai UAE with our daughter born in 2020, with the dream of circumnavigating the globe with a catamaran sailing boat. In 2018 until we decided to focus on our project sailing TELLUS (Latin word meaning “Earth”). We had the chance to visit and live in many beautiful countries including China, Hongkong, Thailand, Romania, Lithuania and France with our previous jobs, that made us realize how fast the world is changing and how fast the life is going and there is no “later” than “now” for the project we have in mind. In early 2019 we took a one-week sailing courses that opened our eyes of new ways of travelling and changed our life style. In June 2020, we decided to sell everything we own, house, car and lot of stuff that we do not need anymore so that we can buy a sailboat and go for an undetermined voyage around the globe. We bought a catamaran Lagoon 450s delivered in France in July 2021. We invite you to share with us our adventures of learning, exploring and making our project come to life. Through our videos we hope to inspire to explore, seek alternative options of living and to spread ocean awareness. It was places gained on successive runs during the second race today that keep Azzurra and Bronenosec in the top two places after four races at the Puerto Sherry 52 SUPER SERIES Royal Cup. At this new, challenging venue for the circuit, the key learning so far is that consistency is especially elusive in this high-level fleet on a race course where the sea breeze on the water is especially hard to read. Witness the fall from grace today of the leaders after Day 1, Provezza. A win and a fourth yesterday saw them sitting pretty at the top of the scoreboard this morning. But two seventh places today sees Ergin Imre’s crew drop to sixth, six points off Azzurra’s table-topping tally of 13 points. Top scoring boat of the day was Harm Müller-Spreer’s Platoon, which rises to third overall after winning the second race. But over the two races, the Roemmers family’s Azzurra and Vladimir Liubomirov’s Bronenosec both returned useful seven-point aggregates. After finishing second to Quantum Racing in the first race of the day, Azzurra got themselves back in the match when they recovered from seventh to fourth on the first run. And on the second downwind Bronenosec, with Morgan Larson on tactics, climbed from sixth to third to claim second place overall on the standings. The subtle shifts in wind strength and pressure are made all the more difficult to read because of the lack of contrast in the colours on the water. The tidal currents and an inflowing river means the waters – rather than the easy on the eye azure of the Med – are rather darker. Puerto Sherry 52 SUPER SERIES Royal Cup Regatta standings after Day 2 1. Azzurra (ARG/ITA) (Alberto Roemmers) (5,1,2,5) 13 p. 2. Bronenosec (RUS) (Vladimir Liubomirov) (4,3,4,3) 14 p. 3. Platoon (GER) (Harm Müller-Spreer) (3,6,5,1) 15 p. 4. Sled (USA) (Takashi Okura) (8,2,3,4) 17 p. 5. Alegre (USA/GBR) (Andrés Soriano) (2,8,6,2) 18 p. 6. Provezza (TUR) (Ergin Imre) (1,4,7,7) 19 puntos. 7. Quantum Racing (USA) (Doug DeVos) (7,7,1,6) 21 p. 8. Phoenix 11 (RSA) (Tina Plattner) (6,5,8,8) 27 p. At Hawksbill Cay, in the Exumas, you can find the ruins left behind by a the Russell family. They were loyalists who settled the island in 1785, and it's very interesting to walk the same paths that they did well over 200 years ago. It's hard to imagine how difficult it must have been to eke out an existence on a rock surrounded by Atlantic Ocean. I mean - we were only in the bush for an hour or less and we couldn't even handle the local mosquitoes. Thankfully were were able to retreat to our boats afterward and go for a refreshing swim. Mangata 5, the new #Dazcat 1295XL, was launched at the end of April and delivered to her new home in north Waleas a month ago. Owners Ali and Tom are delighted. This is what they said after the first weekend on board “A lot of love and attention to detail has gone into the boat…she is beyond our expectations…she has completely changed our life focus…we would like to thank everyone who has put their heart and soul into the making of Mangata 5”. Mangata and her family have quite a story... and we here at Dazcat have been delighted to help them to start the next chapter... The ‘5’ in ‘Mangata 5’ is not, as you might assume, an indication that it’s the 5th boat with this name or that the family have owned. Far from it. It is in fact a bitter sweet and highly poignant reminder to the family with three young children that now they are five but over the next two decades they may be destined to become four, and then three....
