The Oday 272 sails to Rincon Island formerly Arco Island along the central coast of California just south of Santa Barbara. Rincon Island is owned by a new oil company. The pier extends out off the coast and literally looks like Gilligan's Island.

Paul Willison spent his early days as an outdoor education teacher and quickly migrated to working on a square rig sailing ship teaching high school kids to sail. He then set off to travel around the world and sailed on lots of different boats in unusual locations. On his return to Australia he bought the hull and decks for an Imp 33 catamaran and spent the next 3 years fitting it out in his spare time. Next came a maritime training centre with feet of six 15 foot boats, then offshore again doing coastal and blue water deliveries. Paul tells of his 20-year love affair with his Wharram Cat, modelled on a Polynesian voyaging canoe, which he sailed the West and East coast of Australia, through Papua New Guinea and to Indonesia. His tall ship adventures saw sail as Mate on the STS Leeuwin II, a 55m long, 500-ton steel 3-masted sail training ship, voyaging from the South Australian border to Darwin and across to Indonesia, hitting speeds of 16 knots in 35 knots of breeze. Next came the role of Mate on the Batavia, a replica of the 1628 Dutch East Indies ship. Paul has recently bought a 45 Kurt Hughes performance catamaran 'Queimarla' and has set up his own sailing school on West Coast of Australia. After a long winter, we drop our lines and head East. We have to deal with a ripped main sail, an over heating engine and kids that get more lively as the days go by. Night watches seem to be the best time for peace and quiet but the amazing wildlife we see keeps us all going. It takes a while for the children to get their sea legs so they feel sea sick but Mum and Dad are too tired to do much as they keep the watches going and repair the breakages. We are still at sea after 3 days and 3 nights..trying to get to the Balearics...! PLEASE NOTE: YouTube have disabled comments on family channels because they sometimes feature kids. As YouTube is no longer a family friendly platform please visit our Facebook or Patreon page to join conversations and leave messages. We are a family with 3 children and make our own electricity and water, homeschool the kids and do our own boat maintenance. Our dream of cruising and exploring the world's oceans is matched with a desire to live a more off-grid and sustainable lifestyle. A background as RYA instructors, flotilla skippers and RNLI crew only partly prepared us for the challenges of this live-aboard lifestyle! I'm a Canadian photographer from Ottawa who got rid of everything to travel the world. I make vlogs sharing my ups and downs, and my adventures in vans, on motorbikes, and on sailboats. - Who is Champ? Champ is my handsome 14-year-old Labrador, who travelled almost everywhere with me for his whole life. He loves chin scratches, fetching sticks, and scarfing down cheeseburgers and pizza. - What camera equipment do you use? I use a Panasonic FZ2500, a DJI Mavic Pro, a Rode video micro with Deadcat, a Zihyun Crane 3 Axis Gimbal, as well as DIY tripods and lights. - What are your vehicles? I drove a 1992 Dodge Ram B350 camper van all over North America for about two years. Travelling by motorcycle made for some unique trips. I explored the Canadian Maritimes (and deserts and backroads all over the continent) on a 2002 Kawasaki KL250 Super Sherpa dual sport bike, and also rode my 1999 Yamaha V-Star XVS1100 cruiser with a Champion Escort sidecar across my home country twice. From land to water travels: I currently live and work on a 1979 Wharram Oro 47 catamaran. - What are your plans with the boat? I will fix it up, run it on nothing but green electric power, and sail off into the sunset. Stay tuned for the growing build and the adventures to come! - How do you find all these cool places we see in the videos? To gain access to my complete research and the world traveller’s map I curate during my explorations off the beaten path, you need to hit me up on Patreon. Here are a few websites I frequent: https://freecampsites.net/, https://www.campendium.com/, http://www.atlasobscura.com/, https://www.couchsurfing.com/ - How do you afford your lifestyle? I live and travel economical by using free camping and mooring, cooking my own meals, thoroughly researching products and how-to’s online, practicing a DIY approach, and being as efficient as possible with my resources. I've struggled financially for most of my life, and although I'm blessed with helpful friends and family as well as being able-bodied, white and male, I don't subscribe to the belief that you need someone footing your bills in order to pursue your passion. So, I learned that you DO need to sacrifice comfort, consistency, safety, and a traditional career but that it IS possible, worth it, and the only lifestyle that makes me happy. I make my income almost entirely by creating content for YouTube, but it's a tight budget. Ad revenue, business sponsors, affiliate links, Patreon, Paypal donations, and merchandise sales bring in about as much as a part-time job, and I'm able to make that work. When it isn't enough, I go back to regular work such as photography, videography or construction, but that takes the focus away from my own projects. - How does your dog fit into this lifestyle? It's really not as difficult as people seem to think. I spend most of the day with Champ anyways, since we enjoy similar things, like eating food and being outdoors. I let the constraint of bringing my dog with me help me make decisions about where I go and what I do, so I avoid places that ban dogs, and therefore spend more time in nature instead of in cities. - How do you make it work as a digital nomad? My electrical power set-up allows charging my camera and laptop to film and edit almost daily. For Internet access quick and reliable enough to upload my episodes a few at a time, I use coffee shops and libraries. I also use a data package on my phone (10GB), a WiFi antenna, and a WiFi booster.

We have talked about keels, but we never mentioned bilge keels! Bilge keels are sailboats with two keels that look like little legs on the sides of the boat. They are popular in extreme tidal regions of the world since they can sit on the tidal plain once the water has all left. This video looks at the pluses and minuses of bilge keels. Preparing for Our Longest Sail Yet Now that we're back in Georgetown, we have a lot to get done before we head South to the Dominican Republic. We installed a new windex, ran an extra halyard, ran a new topping lift, reprovisioned (bought extra cabbage), emptied the trash, took out cash, filled up on gas, peeled the carpet off the bottom of the boat, replaced the broken bilge switch, and install a red compass light. These were just a few things that we were able to complete before a weather window opened up to leave. We met up with some great cruisers that had just come up from the Caribbean. It was a lot of fun hanging out with them and learning about their travels. A weather window opened up, so we decided to stop all of our projects and leave to stage up at Hog Cay. We found someone to buddy boat with us too! Lyle, Cheryl, and Trace on Bacchus. When we originally planned our trip south, we were going to take the Mona Passage. But after doing a bunch of research and talking with several people, we decided to take the Windward Passage. Our first stop after Great Inagua, BS is going to be Ile la Vache, Haiti. Ile la Vache is a large Island off the Southwestern region of Haiti. Like most of Haiti, they are in need of supplies. So with the help from the amazing sailing community in Georgetown, we collected a bunch of supplies to give them. Our sail to Hog Cay was nice and calm, but the wind was a little light. So much so that we decided to motor sail. We arrived at the anchorage just as the last bit of light let the sky. Hope you enjoy! big love, beau, brandy, and our salty dog, oona patreon: https://www.patreon.com/beauandbrandy facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sailingsaoirse instagram: https://www.instagram.com/beauandbrandy music: I Follow Your Heartbeat (COE Remix) - Tellow The Story of Madeline - Merrie

In this episode we attempt to sail from St Kitts and Nevis to St Martin. After a failed experiment and a persistent wind pushing us to St Barts we cut our losses and decided to overnight at the beautiful bay on the northern end of St Barts - Anse a Colombier. The Anchor Test ! This video was for Patrons only but its been over a year So now I will release it to the public ! Thanks to my Patrons ! After getting the set up all installed I went out for the day with my buddies Neil, Christian and Carlito to test the anchor and get some footage of the first anchor drop. Christian motored along side with his beautiful 1962 Tartan 27. Much to my dismay my gypsy is the wrong size for my chain so I have since been on the search for the correct sized gypsy (either new chain or gypsy will cost me $400 unless I can find a used gypsy) So this was the first time I got to haul the anchor up by hand, which my mama would have said "Hush up, its good for you, get it done". I got lots of practice at this while anchoring at Santa Cruz island in December. As I mentioned above this video is just for my Patrons and is free for you guys as well, thanks so much for your support! Thanks for watching! It's Jeff's last day with us in the Bahamas and we do some more diving. I saw a MONSTER grouper but didn't get him. Sierra speared another crab and a couple lionfish. We also go check out an abandoned building on shore. I couldn't find any information about it but it looks like an abandoned hotel or condos or maybe even barracks. Fellow boaters - I'm thrilled to share my latest project with you: MaintenanceROS! Crafted from my experiences aboard Starry Horizons, it's designed to simplify vessel and maintenance management, making life on the water even more enjoyable. Explore https://MaintenanceROS.com and enjoy an exclusive 20% discount for the first 6 months using promo code 'outchasingstars'. Seamlessly manage your boat's upkeep – let's embark on this journey together! ***** The countdown is on! Our latitude is getting closer and closer to zero as we approach the equator for the second time on our circumnavigation! Of course, to get there, we had to work for it. The winds close to the equator are incredibly light, but somehow I managed to actually come up with an incredible passage plan and Starry Horizons showed us what she's truly capable of. This passage took us to an island just south of the equator where we stopped in order to properly plan the actual crossing. After all, we were responsible for escorting our friends from 22 South across the equator for the first time! And it must be done right! Hi everyone, here is a sneak peak at some of the outfitting and options being installed on our new Leopard P50. This is a big job as we are adding a ton of equipment (more than the 48) and lots of complicated systems. It's a lot of fun and and hard work! We look forward to getting this boat off the dock for some sailing but for now we continue the outfitting! www.svhappytogether.com Music Train in Vain by the Clash

Our Monaco team are set and ready to go! We visit the Monaco Grand Prix to watch Lewis Hamilton at the Formula One practice rounds. We get a little too excited about the free bar and wake up with sore heads on the boat in the morning. Living on a boat comes to an end for our good friend Michael whilst Alf’s brother George joins us onboard again to help us sail an overnight passage across the Mediterranean waters to Corsica where we find the bluest and clearest waters so far and carry on our sail around the world. GTFO Plan #2: OneWheel and Cryotherapy We want to share our GTFO plan to retire early and sail the world and all our adventures as we plan our great escape! In this video, learn why we bought OneWheels and about Ann’s OneWheel crash recovery using Cryotherapy at AlphaCryo. We plan to retire June 1, 2023, Dennis’s mandatory retirement date when he will have served 30 years in the Army. We currently own a 1984 Catalina 30’ monohull sailboat on the Chesapeake Bay. This is our practice boat and is not designed for the open ocean and too small for full-time, liveaboard life. We plan to buy a Neel 51’ trimaran (http://www.neel-trimarans.com/modele_bateau/neel-51/). A trimaran is much safer than a catamaran, more comfortable than a monohull, faster to escape bad weather, and spacious to accommodate our Brady Bunch, and possibly you! We plan to name her Just a Kiss which describes our wonderful 2nd date back in 2015. Learn with us as we prepare to GTFO and sail the world! This week we finally get moving to the East. For those that have watched for a while, you know this was one of the goals. Yes, my dad's health has slowed this process down pretty significantly; however, we are still moving forward and progressing. Last week I flew back to Louisiana and put in a set of redundant bilge pumps in DreamChaser so that if we had a significant failure with a large-sized seacock or thru-hull, we could keep up with the water ingress. See that video here - https://youtu.be/zm8Iy0dnGTY This week we hook up the camper and head east. We have a little mishap on Highway 10 near Biloxi when some stuff comes off the truck in front of us, and we couldn't entirely avoid it. We got set up at a fabulous RV Resort in Fort Myers, and we can use it for months now as a home base if we need to while we continue to find the best possible waterfront lot for our family. To be sure we know where to look, we rented a small pontoon boat and sounded out a number of the channels and canals that we would want to consider lots or homes on. We need to be sure that it is deep enough to accommodate our 6-foot draft. With a map all marked up showing the depths, it is now time to get with a realtor to look at a list of locations we have been considering. The sounding out of depths allowed us to quickly eliminate all the ones that we just flat out know won't work. We looked at about 8 or 9 homes, and then I packed up and flew back to New Jersey to stay with my dad as he continues his recovery. Next week, I head back to New Jersey and decide to take Chazzy with me. I got us Hamilton tickets, and she is going to be so excited when I spring that on her. She has been talking about this play for over a year, knows every word to every song in the soundtrack and will be thrilled for a little Big Apple adventure. The boat is constructed of exterior quality plywood, sealed with epooxy and sheathed in glass fibre and epoxy. One of the great beauties of these boats is that the ballast keel is fitted towards the end of the build, enabling the boat to be kept lower in the shed for most of the construction time. The keel and rudder are fitted shortly before launch. Thank you! Tony
