In this episode of Sailing Nandji, there are problems in paradise on board Nandji. We begin with an accident in the kitchen leaving Yosh severely injured. With new crew arriving to Nandji in a weeks time, we head into the city of Padang, West Sumatra to heal and organizing everything for the coming couple of weeks with people on board. We rush around the city getting food, fuel and water. All the essentials. On top of extending our visas which ends up taking a week, we are trying to import a life raft ready for our future crossing and then we have our hard drive. This important little piece of technology has stored on it all our content from the last 2 months!!! It is very important this thing works again! This is for sure a creators worst nightmare! With so much drama going on and all the stress involved with these activities, we make it to the airport in time to pick up our guests, take them to the shops and then head out to sea under the full moon. These green horn sailors are put to the test early as what begun as a nice smooth sail, soon turned into an upwind, stormy, rough and wet sail. At least the fish are biting right? With no sailing experience, we bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing to the Pacific! We have since cruised through Vanuatu, the Solomon islands, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and then onto the boat yard in Malaysia to prepare for the years to come. With a new engine, we continued onto Thailand, then into Indonesia and specifically West Sumatra where we are living the island life and chasing the surf before our big crossing! We departed Australia in July 2017 and have since explored some amazing countries, met some beautiful people and experienced so many different and diverse cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our life doing it! In this episode we leave Shelter Bay, Panama, to sail 900 miles to the Roatan, which is in the Bay islands of Honduras. The corner before the bay islands is renown pirate territory, and extreme caution must be taken when sailing in these waters. There have been numerous attacks in the area, and it is advised that boats give Honduras a very wide berth, which is what we do to avoid an attack... SV Parlay is a hurricane damaged 2012 Lagoon 450 Catamaran bought in Tortola, BVI at the beginning of 2018. We were truly taken aback by this 65 foot steel yacht. At an asking price of $225,000, it has the accommodations of 50' or bigger catamaran for a much more affordable price tag. Typically catamarans with similar accommodations are million dollar boats. We're constantly looking for boats that have a ton of bang for your buck and this one certainly fits the bill. A few things to note: This boat has twin diesels, which great and is not typical for monohull sailboats. It also has a huge engine and equipment room which isn't typical. All those years ago Alex Thomson gave use the Keel Walk, he then followed it up with the Mast Walk. The crew on GTR Racing is proud to present the Pole Walk. With the 2018 Frosties series on Strangford Lough heading into the last day of racing it was all to play for with 3 boats still in the mix. After a good start to race 9 the crew on GTR ran into some issues with the spinnaker set, loosing the topping lift for the spinnaker pole up the mast. The team kept racing using a spare halyard as a replacement. Half way down the spinnaker run the crew decide it was best to go up the mast to retrieve the topping lift in case the halyard was required for a sail change. Robin Dunbar showed get agility and balance to walk to the middle of the spinnaker pole to reattach the topping lift. All while the crew continued to drive the boat has hard as they could. The flawless crew work kept the boat at top speed, this was key in allowing the crew on GTR to go on and win the race 9 by seconds. With Frosties Race 9 behind in the bag will GTR be able to stay in the lead after the final race of the Frosties 2018. We wish Alex Thomson every success with the last Hugo Boss IMOCA 60. We can not wait to watch him tackle the Vendee Globe and really hope that this years matching video include the foil walk !

Já ouviu falar no Canal do Varadouro? É um lugar lindo, mas de difícil acesso para veleiros grande calado. Fomos até lá demos uma... encalhadinha... mas não sem antes ver lugares incríveis, que valem a pena você conferir. O Varadouro é um canal artificial que liga duas baias diferentes, a Baia de Paranaguá e a Baia de Trapandé, que fica em Cananéia. originalmente tinha 6 metros de profundidade, quando foi escavado nos anos 50, hoje tem menos que um. Navegando este trecho passamos pela maior área contínua de Mata Atlântica conservada, um lugar lindo que tem uma das maiores biodiversidades do planeta. It’s a near-perfect crossing from Siracusa to Argostoli, with a cooperative wind off the starboard quarter.... except for a problem 50 miles offshore (again), when our prop gets choked on some poly-tunnel plastic. Thankfully this was easier to resolve than the engine failure we had last time. Vitória nos surpreendeu muito! Não porque achávamos que seria divertido. Mas simplesmente por não saber o que esperar. Nem eu, nem Sergio conhecíamos Vitória e chegamos na cidade para explorar o que ela tinha para oferecer com expectativa zero. Primeiro pararíamos no Iate Clube de Vitória, íamos ficar junto com a flotilha. Como faltariam vagas por dois dias, resolvemos ancorar na Curva da Jurema. Que grata surpresa! A gente parou em uma das praias mais lindas (e agitadas!) do litoral da cidade. De um lado do nosso bordo ficada o Convento da Penha, cartão postal de Vitória e do outro, a ponte para a Ilha do Frade. Dava para acordar de manhã e ver as tartarugas passando, fazer standup... as pessoas passavam nadando pelo barco todas as manhãs, alguns paravam para puxar papo. Gente, que lugar! Que cidade legal! Falei pro Sergio: "Eu moraria em Vitória!".

We leave Antibes in France and travel to Cacassone, then Garvarnie in the Pyrenees. From here we move into Spain and visit the stunning Banderas Reales National park and head south. We’ve pulled the kids from school and are home schooling while on the road and the water. We spend time aboard our 34ft sailing boat in NZ and have bought a motorhome in Europe so as to tour the other side of the world. We’re keeping our memories on video here and the kids write narration and play guitars so we have music to use in the videos.

Ian Short was instructed as the lead sailmaker and designed a new wardrobe of IRC offshore race sails and composite cruising sails. In 2016 she was completely re-rigged by Sydney Rigging Services and a new Volvo 54hp diesel was fitted by Douglas Marine in Pittwater. She had a new set of B&G H5000 sailing instruments fitted as well as AIS transponder and B&G touchscreen plotter below. In July 2019 she was wet rubbed, antifouled, polished and had her steering and rudder fully serviced. As one of the neatest and most complete First 47.7’s in Australia, “Sports Bar” is berthed at the CYCA and absolutely ready for the upcoming season or a successful Hobart campaign.
