Bindi is our rescue dog, she is a perfect lady, loved riding in the dinghy and knows her way around Annecam. This is her first bath.

We set sail on the tail end of some stormy weather and stow the dinghy on deck to make sure we don't lose it! We sail for 4 days with some pretty strong winds and big swell and decide to skip Sardinia on our way to Sicily as the wind is in the right direction. [BTW sorry about the sound quality in this episode - we know we need to improve!] Without a weather forecast, we get caught out in a storm and our main sail gets another rip in it when we accidentally gybe. It is scary not knowing how long the storm is going to last as we are quite tired after several nights at sea on night watches keeping warm and the boat and children safe. We are a family with 3 children and make our own electricity and water, homeschool the kids and do our own boat maintenance. Our dream of cruising and exploring the world's oceans is matched with a desire to live a more off-grid and sustainable lifestyle. A background as RYA instructors, flotilla skippers and RNLI crew only partly prepared us for the challenges of this live-aboard lifestyle! We have to leave Tikehau with enough light so we can see the bommies that threaten our route out of this atoll. We are sailing against the wind and prevailing swell so it's going to be rough...which will slow us down. We're sailing to one of the most dangerous passes in the Tuamotu Archipelago. We must arrive at slack tide or we're gonna die (at least that's what all the 'cautionary tales' on the internet say). Pile all those fear mongering tales with an exciting start of 5+ knot current pushing us out of Tikehau, then top that with a busted starter causing our engine to fail and we now have an anxiety pie. What should have been a nice, short sail turned into a stress induced motor repair bashing. Hooray Boats! One things for sure, there's never a dull moment in this sailing life of ours. In the end we take the sour so we can savor the sweet...and Rangiroa is supposed to be one of the best places in the world for SCUBA Diving Sailors like us. We set off down the west coast of Italy, heading past Capri sailing in between the biggest dolphin pod we have seen yet. Yet again we are shown another one of mother natures most amazing sunsets. The sun drops just past the island of Capri as we head south down towards Sicily. Again, as soon as the dolphins came out to play Ceylan was up on the bow with the camera, capturing every moment, it was sooo funny seeing the baby dolphins belly flopping in the water playing on the bow of the boat. We continue sailing through the night and are greeted in the morning with the most unbearable heat we have ever experienced, so we decided to head into shore, drop the anchor and have a dip! We find ourselves scraping along the sea bed when coming into shore for reasons unbeknown to me.... Ceylan was on the helm HAHA. But we managed to escape unharmed with no damage. Mit unserer Haber 660 auf dem Trailer nach Mellerud und dann den Dalslandkanal bis Gustavsfors und zurück. Der Dalslandkanal hat eine Länge von 254 km mit 31 Schleusen und 17 Häfen. Für Boote mit max. Tiefgang von 1,80 m, max. Breite von 4,05 m und max. Höhe von 12 - 17 m (je nach Route) Der Preis für die Haber 660 für alle Schleusen hin- und zurück betrug 2700 SEK (ca. 260 €) und wurde bei der ersten Schleuse in Köpmannebro entrichtet. Die Seen sind sehr tief, es gibt leider nicht viele Stelle außerhalb der Häfen festzumachen.. Wir sind 21 Schleusen bis Gustavsfors und zurück gefahren. The boat is constructed of exterior quality plywood, sealed with epooxy and sheathed in glass fibre and epoxy. One of the great beauties of these boats is that the ballast keel is fitted towards the end of the build, enabling the boat to be kept lower in the shed for most of the construction time. We painted on the Interior Rubber Strip in our boat with KiwiGrip and it worked better than we expected. This was used to replace the rubber strip, we think it works great, won't mold, and be very easy to clean. New rubber trim to go around the boat was going to cost over $100, and this we used the kiwi grip leftover. It turned out great and will not mold like the old rubber that caught water did. Not only did the kiwi grip look good, tieing the floor into the rest of the boat, it dulled the sharp edge of the fiberglass and filled the screw holes. It's really not as difficult as people seem to think. I spend most of the day with Champ anyways, since we enjoy similar things, like eating food and being outdoors. I let the constraint of bringing my dog with me help me make decisions about where I go and what I do, so I avoid places that ban dogs, and therefore spend more time in nature instead of in cities. - How do you make it work as a digital nomad? My electrical power set-up allows charging my camera and laptop to film and edit almost daily. For Internet access quick and reliable enough to upload my episodes a few at a time, I use coffee shops and libraries. I also use a data package on my phone (10GB), a WiFi antenna, and a WiFi booster.
