Dunk Island was once a thriving resort destination before Cyclone Yasi struck in 2011, leaving much of it in ruins. Today, the island is slowly coming back to life. There’s a beautiful new glamping area, a fantastic amenities block, a relaxed café serving cold beers and great food, and a stunning beach perfect for unwinding. While the old resort buildings still bear the scars of the storm – with trees even growing through some of the rooves – it’s heartening to see signs of renewal. Dunk Island remains a magical spot, and it’s well worth the visit to experience both its natural beauty and its story of resilience. Thanks for watching. Here you see us crossing the Canal of Corinth. You see how the cliffs look on both sides when you pass with your ship (max width is 24 meters). The Canal is only 8 meters deep and one-way traffic. It’s one of the narrowest sea canals in the world and even cruiseships can pass through when they are below 52 meters (because of the 6 bridges over the Canal!). We really enjoyed the sail, it's only 6 km long, but really impressive to see. And it saves ships like us the 340 km of sail south around the penninsula of Pelepponnesos to go from east to west of Greece (or west to east)!

The Seawind 1260 really did not have a jackline route, so Toni and I created one. I installed a folding padeye in the Monica lounge to give us that critical forward attachment point. A jackline is a safety line or no stretched webbing that is secured from stern to bow. Its purpose is to provide attachment point for a safety harness tether. If rigged correctly it should prevent one from going overboard in rough weather. It is important to note that a jackline should be rigged as close to center of the boat as possible. Jackline's main purpose is to prevent one from going over the side, NOT to keep you attached to the boat after going over the side. Survival chances are greatly reduced if one goes over the side while attached. One hand for yourself, one hand for the boat, and a tether to a jackline as a backup. In this episode we side dock outside the marina to finish reinforcing the solar arch frame. In the chaos of it all, we forget about our package that we needed to collect from the customs agent - a critical safety device to have onboard. We are SO excited to get the solar panels connected and to finally be able to charge our boat from the sun. However, the dark clouds are rolling in and we are in for some big thunderstorms.

We sail towards the small and beautiful Kapas Island, but the journey turns exciting when we hook our first sailfish along the way! 🎣 After an incredible fight, we safely released this magnificent fish back to the ocean — a truly unforgettable moment at sea. Kapas Island greets us with crystal-clear waters, colourful coral reefs, and a turtle sanctuary run by a passionate local non-profit dedicated to protecting nesting sea turtles. 🐢 While exploring the island, we stumble upon an abandoned resort slowly being reclaimed by nature, and a tug shipwreck washed up on the rocky shore — a dramatic sight and a reminder of the power of the sea. We hoped to witness a turtle laying her eggs — a once-in-a-lifetime experience — but luck wasn’t on our side this time. Despite our late-night vigil on the beach, the turtle returned to the sea before nesting. Still, it was inspiring to see Ronnie’s dedication and the sanctuary’s ongoing conservation work to protect these incredible creatures. Later that night, we join local fishermen for a fascinating look at Malaysian squid fishing, where powerful lights attract the squid before they’re caught using traditional jigs. Another serene and meaningful stop on our journey through Malaysia’s east coast islands — full of adventure, wildlife, and unforgettable moments. 🌴⚓ Timestamps if you like to Jump Right In: 00:00 Intro 00:35 The RIP, Leaving Port Phillip Bay WHO ARE WE? Hey there! We’re Chris and Jo, an ordinary Aussie couple living our extraordinary dream aboard our Seawind 1260 since January 2019 and now we continue from 2024 aboard our new 1370! Our adventure began with an unforgettable journey down the east coast of Australia, followed by a sail to the stunning New Caledonia. In 2020, we continued our exploration further north, and by 2021 and 2022, we circumnavigated Australia, discovering breathtaking locations along the way. Having previously owned fishing and water-skiing boats, our passion for sailing deepened after crewing in South Australia, leading us to make the leap into full-time living at sea. We hope to inspire you, just as we were inspired by other YouTube channels, to chase your dreams and explore the wonders of this beautiful world. Not every sailboat that ever hit the water was a masterpiece. Some were slow, leaky, or just plain dangerous — and a few made sailors swear off boating altogether. In this video, we count down the 10 worst production sailboats ever sold in the United States — from the glorified styrofoam cooler known as the Super Snark, to the MacGregor 26X “powersailer” that couldn’t decide if it was a motorboat or a sailboat, to the AquaCat that sailed like a half-submerged picnic table. If you’ve ever owned one of these floating disasters, don’t worry — we’re laughing with you, not at you (well… maybe a little). 👉 Chapters: 0:00 Intro 0:35 #10 Chrysler Sailboats 1:27 #9 Paceship PY26 1:56 #8 Coronado 25 2:23 #7 Etap 21 2:54 #6 Newport 17 3:23 #5 Bayliner Buccaneer 240 4:08 #4 Bayliner Buccaneer 270 4:57 #3 MacGregor 26X 6:19 #2 Super Snark 7:04 #1 AquaCat 12.5 8:05 Final Thoughts Credits: @philipcragg1966 @RudolfShapira @TheDesertSailor @shanelassiterislandcastawa2374 @desertislander1738 @FabioVelasquez-favel6 @xckermit @boatshedboats @vkmaynard @sailboatstogo @adamcotton5356 @funtosail @americansail ⚓ About the Channel: Welcome to Old Boat Sailor, where we dive deep into the world of sailboats — the good, the bad, and the downright ridiculous. #boatfoolssailing #bluewatersailboat #steelsailboat #oceancruisingboats #sailboattour BLUEWATER BATTLE AXE! This Steel Sailboat Will Go Anywhere! $29k | TOUR Canadian Ken and I have seen a lot of fiberglass, but this was a first — a steel-hulled sailboat built like a ship and ready to cross oceans. Meet “Western Way,” a 34-foot steel cutter Irish Rover designed by Merritt Walter — the naval architect behind Rover Marine. She’s got all the right numbers: LOA 34’ | Beam 10.2’ | Draft 4.2’ | Displ 17,000 Powered by a trusty Yanmar 3GM30 (only 1,100 hours), long keel / transom-hung rudder, and a full suite of sails + electronics — she’s ready to go wherever your wanderlust leads. “Western Way” isn’t just pretty on paper — she’s been there. Her owners double-handed from Newburyport to Ireland in 29 days, then cruised the Hebrides, UK, Portugal, and Spain. From the Canaries she rode the Trades to Barbados, the Caribbean, Bermuda, and back home. That’s about as proven as it gets. This is a true bluewater battle axe — strong, steady, and elegant in her own no-nonsense way. Now for sale by her original owners. Obviously, you’ll want to get a survey — but boats like this don’t come around often. For more information or to reach the sellers directly, contact: wvguinon@gmail.com As always be kind and courteous. And, remember, we are NOT brokers or surveyors and we have no financial interest in this boat. But we do LOVE IT! See you next time! Marine navigation has undergone a significant change over the past 30 years with the advent of inexpensive, versatile electronics that can access and use sophisticated imagery and text information to even the smallest of boats. And the internet and satellite communications bring all of this to even the remotest of locations. But these modern gems are a double-edged sword that can cut through the darkest and foggiest of nights but also lull the mariner into a sense of false security. Advanced navigation prep remains an essential practice for the prudent mariner to avoid surprises during the cruise, and this requires route planning based on the charts, publications and notices prior to the cruise and use of these items in conjunction with the electronics during the cruise.

The storm is over, but the fallout has just begun. We survived the lightning strike. Now comes the hard part. Assessing the damage, one system at a time. In this episode of Sailing Dark Angel, still reeling from the lightning strike, we hang on anchor at Thomas Cay and start sorting through the damage. Then we move to Staniel Cay to check the keel, begin repairs, and start the long and costly process of getting replacement parts shipped in. ⚠️ Lightning Strike Update We were directly struck by lightning. Navigation systems, running lights, anchor lights, work lights, a large freezer, and even our keel were damaged. We're still facing VAT, duty, exchange rates, customs brokerage, and a costly haul-out for keel repairs in the Dominican Republic. Sailing through the far north of Norway, in this episode we take you from Hammerfest to Tromsø. We leave the world’s northernmost town, explore history of Finnmark’s WWII destruction, and crosse the notorious Lopphavet – one of Norway’s most dangerous sea areas. We document the 85-nautical-mile passage across Arctic waters, reflecting on the reconstruction of the region and the endurance of those who live here. This was a unique boat with lots of work done to it! Thanks to Pat for showing me! Year: 2002 Tiara 25' Type: Express cruiser designed for day cruising, fishing, and overnight stays. Market Value: Original $70,000 (a marine survey would confirm). Location: Dana Point Harbor Length Overall (LOA): 25 feet (7.62 meters). Beam: 8.5 feet (2.59 meters). Hull Material: Fiberglass with a modified-V hull for stability and performance. Displacement: ~6,500-7,500 lbs (2,948-3,402 kg) dry weight, increased due to heavier Yanmar engines and potential structural reinforcements (e.g., transom and stringers). Engine: Type: Two Yanmar 500 HP diesel engines (likely Yanmar 6LY3-ETP or 6LY3-STP models, common 6-cylinder marine diesels producing 440-500 HP, or a custom 500 HP variant).MAG MPI (300 HP each). Exact engine details aren’t visible, but twin V8s are standard. Configuration: Likely twin sterndrives or inboard with outdrives, replacing the original MerCruiser setup. Yanmar often pairs with ZF or Twin Disc transmissions. Fuel Capacity: 200 gallons. Water Capacity: 20-30 gallons (76-114 liters). Holding Tank: ~20 gallons (76 liters). Cruising Speed: Estimated 35-45 knots (depending on load, propellers, and hull optimization), a significant increase from the original 25-30 knots. Top Speed: 35-45 knots Additional Features: Enclosure, updated electronics (Furuno Radar and other upgrades likely added during ownership), new upholstery, and potential modern amenities from 23 years of maintenance. Spacious Layout The Tiara 2500 Open offers a practical and comfortable layout for its size: Cabin: Forward V-berth sleeps 2-4 with a convertible dinette. Compact galley with sink, single-burner stove, and refrigerator. Enclosed head with marine toilet and sink. Cockpit: Spacious open deck with a helm station, L-shaped lounge seating (convertible to a sunpad), and a wet bar. Ideal for fishing or entertaining, with rod holders and a live well in some configurations. Capacity: Designed for 8-10 people comfortably, with a maximum capacity of 10-12 depending on U.S. Coast Guard certification and seating configuration. The 8.5-foot beam and open cockpit support this. Storage: Ample under-seat and cabin storage for gear, fishing tackle, or provisions. Benefits Versatile Performance: Twin V8 MerCruiser engines provide reliable power for cruising or fishing, with a range of 200-250 nautical miles. The modified-V hull handles choppy waters well. Spacious & Social: The 8.5-foot beam and open cockpit make it ideal for groups of 10, perfect for day trips, fishing excursions, or overnight stays. Long-Term Ownership Value: Owned for 23 years since 2002, the $70,000 price suggests significant upgrades (e.g., electronics, engines, or cosmetics) by a dedicated owner, offering a well-maintained vessel. Classic Design with Modern Touches: The 2002 Tiara styling, combined with 23 years of care, blends timeless appeal with updated functionality. Trailerable Option: At 25 feet, it’s towable with a suitable trailer (though rare due to weight), adding flexibility. Maintenance Tips Engine Service: Service the Yanmar diesels every 250-300 hours or annually (oil changes, fuel filters, impeller, zinc anodes) to ensure reliability, costing ~$1,000-$1,500 per service per engine. Hull Care: Inspect the fiberglass for gelcoat cracks or osmosis, and apply a barrier coat if needed, though 2002 models are less prone than older boats. Electronics: Check upgraded systems (e.g., Garmin) for software updates and wiring integrity. Upholstery & Enclosure: Clean and condition the enclosure and cushions to preserve their condition. Structural Check: Verify the stringers and transom for rot or delamination, though a well-maintained 2002 model should be in good shape. Why Choose the 2002 Tiara 25'? This 2002 Tiara 2500 Open, owned for 23 years, offers a blend of proven cruising performance and modern reliability due to long-term care. Its capacity for 10 people, twin V8 power, and spacious cockpit make it perfect for family outings, fishing trips, or coastal cruises. At $70,000, it represents a solid investment for a well-cared-for boat with a rich ownership history. A marine survey is recommended to confirm the condition and any upgrades, especially given its age and the 23-year ownership period. 👉 Like, Subscribe, and Hit the Bell for more boat tours, cruising tips, and reviews!
