Sodebo has though held the lead and set a new record to Cape Leeuwin of 17 days, 1 hour, and 17 minutes, over 5 and a half hours quicker than Idec’s time.

In this episode we get splashed but the Sardinian weather is holding us back, then we get reunited with our trusty buddy boat Tintomara and finally we find a weather window to continue our journey north along the the Sardinian coast. This trip marked a big milestone – my first proper solo sail on ARGO. I cast off from the marina completely on my own, sailed across to Stradbroke Island in Moreton Bay, dropped anchor in a beautiful spot, then made the return trip and solo berthed back in the marina. It was equal parts exciting, nerve-wracking, and hugely confidence building. While anchored, I made the most of the location and ticked off a few long-overdue boat jobs – tracking down a diesel leak in one of the fuel tanks, fibreglassing a cracked step for the first time, and building some new screens for the hatches. There’s still plenty on the list, but this felt like real progress. Solo sailing pushes you to slow down, think ahead, and trust what you’ve learned. First day of Summer & instead of early morning swims, he head straight for Kotor Marina to meet our electrician to complete the final touches on our water maker! Hughie gets on the job, Shane learns he made a mistake prior and I am humbled once again by the weight of the boat. Once done, we wander the streets of Kotor and get some street food. Mit unserer Topaz Magno geht’s noch einmal raus in die Kieler Bucht – direkt vor dem Olympiahafen Kiel-Schilksee. Bei 4 Beaufort und ablandigem Wind erleben wir ein richtig agiles kleines Sportboot. Die Magno ist mit nur ca. 3,94 m Länge, 1,56 m Breite und rund 95 kg Rumpfgewicht ein echtes Leichtgewicht. Das Großsegel ca. 8 m², die Fock rund 2 m² und der Gennaker ca. 10–11 m² machen die Jolle perfekt, um das Gennaker-Segeln zu üben – aber eben auch ziemlich kippelig. Das spüren wir sofort: die ersten Kenterungen lassen nicht lange auf sich warten. Insgesamt werden es 6 Kenterungen – jedes Mal schnell aufrichten, Wasser rausfahren und weiter geht’s. Genau das macht den Reiz aus: wenig Trägheit, direktes Lenkverhalten und jede kleine Gewichtsverlagerung spürt man sofort. Wenn die Magno ins Gleiten kommt, spielt die klassische Rumpfgeschwindigkeit von ca. 9 km/h keine Rolle mehr – mit Gennaker und genug Wind kommen wir zeitweise auf 16 km/h und mehr. Für Einsteiger ist die Magno aufgrund ihrer Stabilität beim Aufrichten perfekt zum Lernen geeignet – aber man muss aktiv segeln und Gewicht trimmen! Wir segeln Höhe, üben Wenden, fahren lange Schläge und probieren Manöver im Trapez. Dabei wechseln wir Rollen: mal steuert einer nur mit der Pinne, mal bedienen wir Großsegel und Fock gemeinsam. Mit unserer Topaz Magno geht’s erneut raus in die Kieler Bucht – direkt vor dem Olympiahafen Kiel-Schilksee. Diesmal zeigen wir ausschließlich die spannendsten Szenen des Törns: die Gleitfahrten bei 4 Beaufort und alle 6 Kenterungen. Die Magno ist eine extrem agile kleine Jolle: nur ca. 3,94 m lang, 1,56 m breit, ~95 kg Rumpfgewicht, Großsegel ca. 8 m², Fock 2 m² und Gennaker 10–11 m². Perfekt, um Gennaker-Segeln und Gewichtstrimm zu üben – aber auch herrlich kippelig. Bei den Gleitpassagen überschreiten wir klar die theoretische Rumpfgeschwindigkeit von ~9 km/h und erreichen mit Gennaker teils ~16 km/h auf flacher See. Die direkte, nervöse Lenkung und die minimale Trägheit machen die Magno so spannend: jede kleine Gewichtsverlagerung zählt – und jede Böe kann die nächste Kenterung bringen.
