In Episode 59 of the Sailing Goat Series, I tackle an issue that has been bothering me for weeks — our Iridium GO! satellite system still isn’t working properly. I had to cut and extend the antenna cable during the initial install at the nav desk, and since then, it’s never transmitted the way it should. I tried redoing all the connections but with no success. This time, I’m asking for help from the sailing community — if you have any experience with Iridium GO! wiring and troubleshooting, please drop your advice in the comments! It's like things don't want to be fixed And I just don't understand why everything has to be this hard For some reason everything is broken and it doesn't want to be fixed. but we are going to keep going until everything is done! Full electric galley, watermaker, 2 years new electronics including auto pilot, radar and 16 inch chartplotter. Custom dinghy lift where you can leave the engine on (comes with 10.5 rib with almost new 20hp motor), new mainsail and jib, 14 foot by 7 foot custom hard top, dive compressor, two electric toilets with 2x 100 litre blackwater tank, put in 3 new fridge/freezer units, new prop shafts, 8 new underwater lights. We took the bottom down to gel-coat and put 6 layers of barrier coat on before new bottom paint (that was 3 years ago) and we replaced every through hull. We installed two new prop shafts and aquadrives. It has 4 staterooms, one oversized queen bed, one queen bed and to double beds with 4 heads but we are using 2 heads as just storage. You can live remote on this boat for months and months without needing to resupply (3 fridge/freezers, crazy amount of solar and giant lithium batteries etc). It still needs some cosmetic work inside and a couple of things here and there, but could cross oceans right now as is. We love this boat but we are aware we aren't going to get back anywhere near the money we put into her. The YOT 36 is a good looking outboard powered catamaran which is a bit of a drivers boat. She's fun and easy to operate but will transform into an excellent platform for entertainment thanks to drop down wings that open up the space while keeping the overall beam sufficient to store in a regular marina berth. Underway she is an excellent ride with a very smooth experience for passengers making this a very novice boater friendly design in my opinion. The joystick parking is also very simple due to the extra beam between both motors which allows for some good leverage on the motors and basically an easier parking experience for you. I can see this boat appealing to the day boat masses and she'll serve you in that role perfectly. However if you want to travel for a long weekend away on a remote island you can do that too. I don't see any problem taking this boat offshore and staying aboard for multiple days out at your favourite hideaway. The owners decided to accept another offer that came in the same day as ours. So, we went back to the drawing board and in our eagerness to get started, we ended up purchasing this half-acre lot. It’s in a great location with a stunning view—but it’s far from perfect. The lot is much smaller than we’d hoped for, the driveway and front yard are incredibly steep, and after consulting with a structural engineer and an excavator, we realized that the particulars of our build site would make it quite expensive to build our dream home here. But for the past couple months I’ve kept a close eye on the land market in this area. And recently, several promising properties have popped up on our radar. So this week, we’re going to check out those properties—and apply everything we’ve learned so far about site prep and excavation to see if we should just commit to building on our land, or if one of these properties might be a better option for our dream mountain homestead. Unexpected maintenance today! When washing the boat, the scupper was plugged with barnacles so we needed to attend to that problem so we can drain the water in the scupper. Thanks to Andy his handy, dandy screw driver and goes into the cold water for a swim to clear out the drain!
