We were welcomed with open arms by the incredibly friendly Zululand Yacht Club, quickly feeling at home in the South African boat life. Our 28hrs ashore couldn’t have been better: a traditional South African braai, shared with fellow cruisers, travel stories, and the kind of community that makes sailing and travel so special. Just as we were settling in, things took an unexpected turn… we were asked to leave the marina, cutting our stay short and adding tension to our adventure. With little time to plan, we set sail for Durban in the dark, raising the question many sailors and travelers ask: Is South Africa really dangerous? This episode is full of firsts — our first Uber ride, exploring life ashore, and an unforgettable dinner at the Royal Natal Yacht Club alongside the Mini Globe Race sailors, reminding us why we love this lifestyle. If you’re into sailing family adventures, travel, boat life, and sailing around the world, this episode is for you. ⚓ Like, subscribe, and follow our circumnavigation as we continue living the dream of life at sea We are a suburban blended family that has raised our 3 older children and now want to travel the world. After planning and saving for the past 6 years, we are now embracing our dream of sailing around the world on our Leopard 45 sailing catamaran. Follow our journey as we Circumnavigate the Globe in 3-4 years on a budget of $4,800/month (food, communication, fuel, insurance, transportation, mooring/marina & fun). We left the USA in October 2023 and plan to visit 26 countries on 5 different continents all while worldschooling a budding teen in our off grid tiny house. 🏆 Looking for boating spreadsheets, inside info or wanna help keep the dream alive?
