A R B E I T E N im Masttop | SY MariaNoa | #141d Wir sind zurück von unserem Heimaturlaub in Deutschland. Von Hongkong kommend haben wir noch einige Tage in der Vuda Marina auf Fidschi gebucht, um Arbeiten an MariaNoa durchzuführen, die unterwegs unmöglich sind. Jedes Mal wenn wir nach längerer Abwesenheit auf MariaNoa zurückkehren, ist die Spannung groß. Aber auch dieses Mal gibt es weder Schimmel- noch Insektenbefall. Zu Übungszwecken entferne ich in geringer Höhe am Mast alte Umlenkrollen, die schon lange nicht mehr benutzt werden. Hier bringe ich auch das erste Mal die Autofolie zum Einsatz. Mit dem Mast direkt vor der Nase ist es schwierig, die Folie horizontal aufzukleben. Auch ganz blasenfrei wird die Oberfläche leider nicht. ▬ Über diesen Film ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Die bisher vorhandenen Umlenkrollen in der Endlosleine zum Furler des Gennacker habe ich durch Rollen mit Klemmen ersetzt. Hierdurch erhoffe ich mir zusätzliche Sicherheit, dass der Gennacker sich nicht ungewollt entrollt. Um die Rollen zu tauschen musste die Endlosleine aufgeschnitten und somit ersetzt werden. In 18 Meter Höhe ist der Mast glücklicherweise genauso ruhig wie weiter unten. In zwei Eimern habe ich hoffentlich alles Werkzeug dabei, das ich brauche. Der Arbeitsablauf ist ähnlich, wie weiter unten. Zunächst werden die erst kürzlich montierten Schotdurchführungen wieder demontiert. Hierfür müssen die hochfesten Monel Blindnieten ausgebohrt werden. Der Arbeitsbereich mit seinen verbleibenden Bohrungen wird mit der Autofolie beklebt. Daraufhin werden je ein StandUpBlock von Lewmar für den Parasailor und den Gennacker montiert. Entstanden war die Neuordnung des Masttops durch den neuen Gennacker. Um diesen zu befestigen, musste wiederum der Befestigungspunkt für den Parasailor weiter nach oben verschoben werden. Die kürzlich montierten Schotdurchführungen hatten leider zum Schamfielen der Fallen geführt – so konnte das nicht bleiben. Habt Ihr konkrete Fragen? In den letzten 6 Monaten hat Sie aber eine erstaunliche Entwicklung hinter sich gebracht und freut sich auf unser großes Abenteuer genau wie ich. We hoisted our sails and set out to sea on a passage that would take us around the wild most southern tip of Africa, where two mighty oceans collide. Instead of the roaring seas and furious weather this area is known for, we were met with an eerie calm. Thick fog wrapped around us like a ghostly veil, and the ocean lay calm beneath our hull. We then rounded the infamous Cape Aghalus with our asymmetrical spinnaker flying high! I am sure That’s not something many sailors would have in their log books. This moment marked a massive milestone for our circumnavigation: we’ve officially crossed into our third ocean — the Atlantic — leaving behind and saying goodbye to the wild energy of the Indian Ocean. We made landfall in False Bay under the most magical conditions, and now, a whole new adventure awaits — new places, new faces, and the city of Capetown to explore Sure enough, we didn’t have to go far to run into a baboon. We were told after the fact, that most afternoons the baboons hike down the mountain into town looking for a quick and easy feed. Now, Baboons are proper scary, they are as big as Great Dane, smart and have zero fear. We set out on a snorkelling adventure to track down the five hidden underwater sculptures scattered across three beautiful locations in the Whitsundays. It’s such a brilliant initiative – blending art, marine conservation and exploration – but don’t be fooled... these sculptures are not easy to find! From Manta Rays to Maori Wrasse, we finally uncovered each piece and in doing so, got to really soak in the surrounding coral gardens and marine life (just for admiring, not for eating!). As we transition to a life at sea aboard “Moments in Time”, there will be some things I will truly miss from land life. One of these will be enjoying fresh heirloom tomatoes from my garden. I will pick the tomatoes everyday and line them up on the counter. However, the best, the biggest, the ripest of them seem to disappear, leaving me tomatoes that require me to gerrymander around all the bad spots. I know it is not aliens coming down to take them, at least I do not think so, but Toni and the grandkids seem suspiciously happy, and it always look like they have red stains around their smiling mouths, like tomato stains. We finally left Big Woody after two restless nights of strong winds, and what a journey it turned into! 🌊 Gary and Lee-Anne kick things off with a playful race to see who can reel their fishing rod the fastest… and let’s just say, the catch of the day is no ordinary fish! 🎣😉 The wind fills our sails, and Moor R & R takes off—flying at 8.6 knots, our fastest and most exhilarating sail yet. Maintenance work continues on Trade Runner here at Helena Marina. The yard workers help me out with the sanding and do a mint job, so happy with that! I learn that I need to start the days early as each afternoon the squalls roll through and dump tons of water. I cross things off the job-list though and before you know it the boat is ready to splash again. Wir haben für zwei Wochen Besuch an Bord. Mein Sohn Flori und seine Freundin Lea wollen mit uns durch den Saronischen Golf segeln. Wir starten in Varkiza, segeln mit den beiden zum Aphaia-Tempel auf Aegina und weiter zum schnuckeligen Ort Poros. Nach ein paar Tagen müssen wir leider wieder den Rückweg nach Varkiza antreten. Dann heißt es Abschied nehmen. In wildem Ritt segeln wir zu zweit zurück nach Poros. Dort steckt Dirk sich bei einem Freund mit Corona an. Ab jetzt hat jeder vorübergehend seinen eigenen Rumpf und ich desinfiziere mich mit Ouzo. Es wirkt: ich stecke mich nicht an! We have visitord on board for a fortnight. My son Flori and his girlfriend Lea want to sail with us through the Saronic Gulf. We start in Varkiza, sail with them to the Temple of Aphaia on Aegina and on to the cosy village of Poros. After a few days, we unfortunately have to make our way back to Varkiza. Then it's time to say goodbye. The two of us sail back to Poros on a wild ride. There, Dirk infects a friend with coronavirus. From now on, everyone has their own hull temporarily and I disinfect myself with ouzo. It works: I don't get infected!
