We’re officially kicking off the installation of our electric drive system! ⚡️ Back in the spring, we received our electric motor, but we couldn’t move forward with fittings until our couplers were milled to the proper size. With that step now complete, we’re finally able to start positioning and aligning the motor inside the boat. In this episode, you’ll see: Milling the coupler to achieve a precise fit between the motor and prop shaft Bringing the electric motor onboard for its first placement Measuring, bonding, and glassing in the motor mounts (temporarily) Priming the mounts in preparation for final alignment work This stage isn’t permanent yet — everything is still in “trial fit” mode — but it’s a huge step forward in our progress. Next up, we’ll be glassing in the mounting structures for auxiliary equipment and continuing to refine the motor installation alongside the stern tube. I set out to capture something special — the summer solstice sunrise at Old Harry Rocks in Dorset. Staying overnight in the National Trust car park, I didn’t expect to share it with paddleboarders arriving at 3am, ready to see the sunrise from the calm sea. By the time I walked the mile to the cliffs, more paddleboarders and a few fellow photographers had gathered — all of us waiting for the first light. By day, the beach is buzzing with tour boats and sunshades, but when evening comes, the crowds disappear and we have this stunning anchorage all to ourselves. ✨ From there, we set out across the Gulf of Tehuantepec 🌊, a stretch of water known for its fierce winds. Luckily, we caught it in rare calm conditions, hoisting our symmetrical spinnaker ⛵ for a smooth and beautiful crossing. Finally, we arrive in Chiapas ⚓ — our last port in Mexico! ​Join us aboard SV Reeva, our 12 m sailing yacht, as we take on one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world — the Singapore Strait. After a stormy night with our anchor dragging dangerously close to Singapore waters, we embarked on a 70-mile passage from West to East Johor Bahru, navigating squalls, strong currents, and hundreds of massive cargo and container ships. With favorable currents, Reeva reached a record speed of 9 knots, weaving through 400-meter tankers and fast-moving vessels. After 11 intense hours, we made a safe landfall at Senibong Cove Marina, a quiet and sheltered inlet at Sungai Lunchoo — the perfect spot to rest and recover. This week we set sail from Milos toward the Peloponnese, facing one of the most notorious passages in Greek waters: Cape Malea, also known as the “Devil’s Cape.” For centuries, Cape Malea has been feared by sailors. The cape juts out into the Aegean where currents, swells, and shifting winds collide, often turning calm seas into chaos. Ancient mariners dreaded this headland so much that it became part of legend. Homer himself mentioned Cape Malea in the Odyssey—it was here that Odysseus was blown far off course, beginning his long and fateful wanderings. Even today, locals say: “When you round Malea, forget your home.” On our passage, the cape lived up to its name. Winds funneled around the rocky headland, accelerating in violent gusts that tested both our sails and our nerves. Yet once past the Devil’s Cape, the seas eased and we continued on a smoother course toward Kalamata, grateful for both the challenge and the reward.
