Sailing to Nusa Lembongan on my friend's catamaran, a #lagooncatamaran This mini adventure takes us from #bali and over to the neighbouring islands, which consist of 3 islands, #nusapenida, Nusa Ceningan, and Nusa #lembongan south east of Bali, Indonesia. When my Australian friend Sam invited me for a short holiday, I was not dificult to ask, and jumped on board his beautiful Lagoon 440. Knowing how much money people spend on holiday here to have this kind of adventure, and even being only the two of us, makes you feel privileged. Sailing in Indonesia and especially from Lombook to Bali can be pretty challenging for several reasons. Outside the monsoon season, there is barely any wind, but strong ocean currents. During the monsoon season, you can experience extreme winds and lots of rain. And many sailors visiting these waters find themselves in big trouble. For us, this time it's basically motor sailing as there are really not many other options. Thank you so much for tagging along and for the patrons' support in making this video possible. Sailing around the world in a Bavaria 55 Cruiser, mostly solo, making videos whenever we have time for it. Comfortable at sea with 4 decades of sailing experience and hundreds of thousands of miles behind me. Even though this is season 8 on YouTube, I did not make that many videos in the beginning, and obviously not from my entire sailing life. Before full-time sailing 7 years ago, I sailed several seasons in the Mediterranean, and obviously also in Scandinavia. I had my first sailboat at age 7 and have been sailing and racing ever since. I also have more than 10 years of experience as a captain in search and rescue at sea in Norway.
Part 143 of a series: Sailing Tampa Bay to Key West. Pineland on Pine Island is home to the Tarpon Lodge. Boating to the historic fisherman's paradise requires an exciting journey through Wilson's Cut. Anchoring in the basin adjacent to the marina at Tarpon Lodge is extremely tight quarters.
This week, with the woods ban still in place, we decide to hightail it to Newfoundland via the Bras d’Or Lakes. We’re itching to get climbing, hiking and biking again! Before we start sailing north, I took the time to do something that’s been on my to-do list for a while: calibrate our fuel dipstick. I used our Keenan Filters fuel filter to move all of our diesel into one tank, so we can use the empty tank for calibration. Leaving Terence Bay was a little emotional. It’s a bummer we didn’t get to explore all that this region has to offer, but it’s time to keep moseying to where the mountains meet the ocean (and where we can actually climb those mountains). Aboard for the run from Terence Bay to St. Peter’s is Kyle, who you might remember from when we installed our water systems during the last crazy year of the build. The sail to St. Peters—the gateway to the Bras d’Or Lakes—was full of variety and spice: we saw everything from low winds that forced us to run the engine, to 25 knot winds that put Arabella on a wild heel as she crashed through the waves. We arrived at the St. Peter’s Lock around midnight. It’s never our favorite to arrive in a new harbor at dark, but that’s how it goes with sailing sometimes. You can’t always pick your timing… At St. Peter’s, Robin meets us with the truck and jumps on board as we navigate the lock and pick up a mooring at the Lions Club Marina. We have certainly entered a different biosphere—one that is much less harsh (and much less foggy) than the cold, open North Atlantic. After a few days on a mooring, we decide to start moseying through the Bras d’Ors, heading to Macnabs Cove, where Akiva will get to have his very own island to explore. I also decide that cruising the Bras d’Or Lakes would be a good opportunity for Robin to “single hand” Arabella, so she’ll be running the show as we bump around the lakes. Past little baby lighthouses, we drop anchor in Macnabs and promptly run Akiva over to his island. Anchored in a beautiful corner of the Bras d’Or Lakes, I take the opportunity to replace and improve the painter line on our hand-built wooden dinghy, Victoria. Waking up to a missing dinghy is NOT a good time, as we’ve learned from experience. I have an idea that will add some shock absorbency to the system, which will increase the longevity of the painter line and reduce the amount of stress on the attachment point. I’m glad to have my pattern maker’s vise to help me bring my idea to fruition. Tune in next week, as we continue cruising the Bras d’Or Lakes, making way towards Newfoundland! -------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella started as a wooden boat building project in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve began the journey as an amateur wooden boat builder crafting a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and now sailing the boat—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that traditional wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project continues beyond the boat shop, as Steve and crew travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. Setting the sails is like opening the wings of the yacht. It’s the moment when everything comes alive — the wind, the ropes, the silence turning into movement. I still feel magic every time I do it. And it’s even better when I get to show someone new. ⚓️ If you want to learn how to set the sails yourself, join our sailing school or enter the giveaway for a chance to win a sailing course with us. @elmarsailing
Katia visited Newport Rhode Island a few weeks ago, where she presented a beautiful Swan 100 called “Red Sky”. She came back with great enthusiasm for the yacht, the location, and the fantastic broker representing Red Sky - Bill Titus of Northrop & Johnson. Apparently Red Sky was in particularly bad weather one day, and the Captain was reassured with the words “Don’t worry, this is a Swan…YOU will break before the yacht does!”

This Hanse 540e, 'Grey Goose 22', is a stylish, comfortable and well-performing family cruising yacht. The 'e' in 540e stands for the epoxy-infused hull, a construction method that ensures a lighter, stiffer, and more stable yacht, with excellent durability and complete protection against osmosis. With her 16 feet of beam amidships, wide teak-laid decks, sleek cabin profile, electrically operated teak-laid bathing platform, transom garage, and enormous cockpit, 'Grey Goose 22' has the space and presence of a much larger yacht. The hull and superstructure are spray-painted in dark grey, though she would benefit from a fresh repaint to restore her full glory. She is very well equipped with a slab reefing main sail, lazy bag and lazy jacks, self-tacking jib, genoa, gennaker, Code 0, spinnaker, storm jib, and electric winches. She furthermore comes with an exhaustive B&G navigation pack (all new 2025), generator, 110hp diesel engine, bow thruster, dinghy with outboard engine, etc. Worth mentioning are the eye-catching tailor-made sunbeds on the fore and aft deck, and the comfortable cushions in the cockpit. Below deck, 'Grey Goose 22' offers a modern airy interior finished in satin American Cherry joinery, anthracite Corian countertops, generous headroom, and ample storage. For onboard comfort, she is fitted with an air-conditioning system, dishwasher, and a washing machine. Accommodation is for up to six guests in three spacious cabins. The forward master suite and port aft guest cabin both feature ensuite bathrooms. The original ensuite bathroom in the starboard aft cabin has been smartly transformed into a pantry and storage space a highly practical solution for extended cruising. If you are looking for an easy-to-handle, comfortable, and powerful family cruiser with good sailing capacities then this might be the one for you.
We take a look around one of the most popular trailer sailers being made today. Our tour around 'Andiamo' shows what amazing comfort and space can be squeezed into this pint sized yacht.
Cyclone Alfred has now passed, but the worst is yet to come. We now have massive trees hurtling towards us and bits of debris. It’s a constant battle to keep removing them from the hulls where they keep getting caught. It’s full on! After a while the banks of the river burst and the current reduces dramatically. We move to more protected waters with less of the river flow, but it’s tricky going as it’s very difficult to manoeuvre the nuthouse in such huge currents. Magnus uses everything that he can to keep Nutty from hurtling toward the sandbanks and riverbanks. It’s a lot. Once that’s all dealt with it’s time to get back to fixing up the roof. The weather is not helping us. It just won’t stop raining and when there is a small weather window, it’s too hot to apply the gelcoat. We can’t get a break. Finally, we decide that we’re just not going to get Nutshell finished and we can only do our best with the short amount of time that we have left. We plan on leaving Nutshell on the hard and coming back to finish her after our Kimberley tour guide season ends September 2025, but, as always seems to happen, plans change… Thanks for watching. Equator Crossing Party – Pollywogs or Scallywags? Welcome to our equator crossing celebration — where tradition meets total chaos! Of course, we got our payback 😄 Just like that, we’ve officially crossed into the Northern Hemisphere! This is one of those unforgettable experiences that so few people get to have, and we soaked up every wild, messy, hilarious second of it. Come join the fun!
An extraordinary first day at the Wetsuit Outlet International Moth UK Championship 2025 saw four races held and some very tired sailors wondering how they were going to get through three more days of the same. Conditions were at the top end at times in Torbay, pushing the foiling Moths and their helms to the limit, with race three being especially demanding and described by more than one sailor as 'biblical' downwind. Full report at https://www.sail-world.com/news/289661/Wetsuit-Outlet-Moth-UK-Championship-Day-1 Results so far to follow, as are three more days of epic foiling! @wetsuit @allensailing2284 #foiling #sailing #sendit MB01LKJ3MRSXAPE

Crossing the Kiel Canal by sailboat is a must-do passage for any sailor in Northern Europe. In this episode we set sail from Denmark in thick white fog and make our way to Kiel, Germany. After entering the Kiel Canal, we experience one of the most unique passages of our journey so far: the locking process and crossing the canal...under beautiful autumn sunshine. The most thrilling moment? Locking in at Brunsbüttel alone, in the dark fog. With zero visibility, it became one of the most surreal and unforgettable experiences in our sailing life! The Kiel Canal crossing is the shortcut between the North Sea and the Baltic Sea, and for us it was a really a highlight of cruising in Northern Europe. The Nordhavn 47 Ranger has SOLD! She closed in August, 2025. This video was prepared for marketing and promotion, but between filming in July 2025 and video production in August 2025, a full price offer was received, and the video was put on hold. Ranger is an exceptional Nordhavn 47, a 2004 model year that was actively cruised and cared for by experienced yachties. She surveyed beautifully, including a very thorough buyer ordered inspection by Steve D’Antonio. The sellers of Ranger owned a Nordhavn 35 previously and are experienced trawler cruisers, airplane pilots and RV campers – they enjoy the best and take good care of their possessions. The “non-flybridge” model is sought after by purists who prefer the sleeker, low-profile look. Ranger is hull 25 in the Nordhavn 47 series. The popular two stateroom and two head configuration is a great layout. Her teak interior with granite counters is fitted out with the beautiful craftsmanship you appreciate on every Nordhavn. Ranger is powered by a Lugger LP668T main engine, keel cooled with dry stack exhaust (under 5,000 hours in August 2025). For redundancy she has a Lugger 844D wing engine (under 150 hours). To complete her diesel package she has a 16 kW Northern Lights generator (under 3,500 hours). Underway she enjoys the comfort of ABT TRAC stabilization and for arriving inshore she has a Maxwell windlass and Side Power bow and stern thruster. The mast and boom package was selected (with a hinged base) was ordered so that she could go below low bridges or tuck into a reasonable height boat house. Her Boston Whaler tender is a restored 1983, special 25th anniversary edition. Since Ranger closed as a private sale, the price is withheld and the information details and photo gallery that we normally post remains in our archives. If you would like additional information about the Nordhavn 47 model, or have one you wish to sell, please get in touch with Jeff Merrill, CPYB to discuss your plans. Jeff Merrill, +1 949.355.4950 (text or call) or by email: Jeff@JMYS.com. For additional information visit https://www.Nordhavn47.com to learn more about this great design and review previous Nordhavn 47’s (including flybridge versions) that JMYS has marketed. There are several other Nordhavn 47 videos that Jeff Merrill has filmed – these remain online for those doing their research. Hey Everyone! It's lobster season in Florida and we get a couple days to slay before season opens for everyone, called mini season, at the end of August! Sailing vessel Tapatya with Sailing Alanouwoly This is the story of SV Tapatya, a self-built, Jay Benford designed, 31.8ft, junk schooner-rigged cruising sailboat. The videos are a week-by-week record of our adventures as I live aboard, sail and strive to find out just what such a self-built, low-budget vessel is capable of. These videos take a lot of time and effort to make, in what is already a time-intensive project. Your support in watching, subscribing and sharing these videos is very much appreciated. Crystal clear water, spearfishing, sharks, and good friends. This atoll has no people that live on it and the water is the clearest I've seen so far! Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate as much as I had hoped, but it's an island I can't wait to visit again Give a little extra support 💞 The circumnavigation is JUST beginning... all of your help goes towards more gear to make the videos a bit better and the boat safer and more functional for myself as a single hand (and maybe an extra treat for Mako) PATREON COMMUNITY: https://www.patreon.com/laurenlanders Paypal: https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/laurenalanders Venmo: https://account.venmo.com/u/souldelamar Mako Treats: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/laurenalanR Merchandise: https://www.souldelamar.com/shop/ Wish List: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/WT5UKPG3ITDP/ref=nav_wishlist_lists_3 Things I USE & LOVE (these are affiliate links and helps me out a little bit): Things I USE & LOVE (some are affiliate links and helps me out a little bit): Battleborn Batteries: https://bit.ly/449ep2q Cromox Chain: https://www.cromox-us.com/products/nautic Propellor: www.flexofold.com Amazon links: https://www.amazon.com/shop/_laurenlanders Seawater Pro Watermaker: https://seawaterpro.com?sca_ref=1453027.5f7Jd5tSOL Sunscreen: https://stream2sea.com?wlr_ref=REF-PV6-IHR Sunglasses: https://glnk.io/y31nz/laurenlanders Coffee alternative: www.everydaydose.com/LAURENLANDERS Favorite protein: https://www.paleovalley.com/?pc=pvpartners&oid=26&affid=3343 Skincare: https://clearstem.com/LAURENLANDERS Sunchill: www.sunchill.com/laurenlanders Epidemic music: https://share.epidemicsound.com/f6x0cd Musicbed: https://www.musicbed.com/account/referralsInstagram instagram.com/laurenlanders instagram.com/makoatsea
Some times it pays to break the rules. While sailing back from the Bras d’Or Lakes to Halifax, we left on Friday Aug. 22nd, the day that Hurricane Erin was going by. Sailing superstition says it’s bad luck to set off on a Friday. Also, most sailors stay in safe harbors when such a big storm is any where nearby. Yet, I didn’t break the rules idly; I watched the track of the storm and had chosen ports bailout ports. Getting home from the Bras d’Or Lakes to Halifax is normally an upwind slog because of the prevailing southwest summer breezes. The northern edges of Hurricane Erin would create a strong northeasterly that would make the trip a fast, downwind ride. This was a chance too good to pass up. I determined the risk was worth the reward. Several hours into our surfing session down the south coast of Nova Scotia, we noticed blue sky to the north over the land and angry grey clouds to the south out to sea. During the day, we jibed downwind between the shore and the meanest looking clouds. Soulmates ended up having a great, fast sail. We averaged 9 knots for the 95-mile 11-hour passage from the exit of the Bras d’Or Lakes to Beaver Island Harbor, which is nearly two thirds of the way to Halifax. The wind blew in mid-20s with some solid gusts into the 30s, but since we were on a very broad reach with a double-reefed main and small jib, heeling was minimal. Our highest speed was a surf to 20.2 knots and had uncountable number of surges over 15 knots. There were hour-long stretches where we averaged 11 knots. Being comfortable in, and prepared for, high winds allowed us take advantage of these conditions. My decision to sail bore fruit, as the day after the storm, we had to motor the remaining 60 miles to Halifax because the prevailing southwesterly had returned. Comfort and preparation are the result of years of sailing in incrementally stronger winds and learning from those experiences. All sailors would do well to expand their sailing skills as did my crewmate Keven; she started out skeptical of my plan, but was smiling at the end of the our successful sail. I broke one other superstitious rule — we sail with bananas as part of our larder.

**Murata alta o murata bassa? About 22 miles off shore Rockland Maine lies Matinicus Isle Plantation - the furthest island out from the coast. It is 2 miles long by a mile wide - 9 square miles of Beauty, Isolation, Independence. You need to love being alone. The population was 53 at the 2020 census. It's a 750-acre granite rock with the occasional beach shoreline, but mostly spruce and wildflowers and everything that grows in between. 1750 saw it’s first resident, among the native Americans. It’s now a mixture of permanent residents - lobstermen and summer residents - business people and artists that need to get away from their crowded lives elsewhere. Waterfront property goes for millions of dollars - IF you can pry it out of the locals hands. Good luck trying. Or rather - please don’t try. Leave it as it is, you can visit, but don’t change it. It’s wonderful the way it is. Just hike, sightsee, meet the locals and just BE. We dropped another message in a bottle between Matinicus and Monhegan Islands. It ended up in Friendship Maine - 15 miles in 42 days. Not the speediest. Location & Date Found: September 4, 2023, Friendship Maine Location & Date Dropped: July 24, 2023 – Monhegan Island, Maine Miles & Time Travelled: 15 miles – 42 days Story: This message made it about 15 miles. Motoscafo superveloce.
