At the close of the Cannes Yachting Festival, we had the opportunity to sail aboard Lagoon’s flagship, the Eighty 2. We had first discovered this large catamaran exclusively in Bordeaux, and it has proved to be lively under sail and economical under motor – 11.6 US gallons (44 liters)/hour at 2,000 rpm. The captain, with 2,000 nautical miles logged on his circumnavigation of the Iberian Peninsula, seemed very satisfied with his new vessel and especially with his quarters at the forward end of the port hull. Traffic flows smoothly thanks to the wide side-decks and the forward door in the nacelle. From the flybridge, the crew enjoys a 360° view of the water and can easily swap from one helm station to another. We would just like to see slightly deeper halyard bags and more secure access for working at the boom.
