Our shakedown cruise on Little Nutshell finally begins as we leave Shotley Marina and head out for our first night aboard. What starts as a simple system check quickly turns into a crooked night on the hard, a muddy hull clean and a whole lot of learning. Join us for boat maintenance, marina mishaps and the real start of our cruising adventure. Magnus installs the battery monitor on the dash and tidies up the electrical cables underneath before we cast off. We finally leave Shotley Marina and begin the first day of our shakedown cruise on Little Nutshell. The plan is to anchor out for the night and check her systems. We head into Tichmarsh Marina to visit the chandlery, as the harbour master has kindly let us pull up alongside. Then it’s out again and onto a mooring for the night, although we still don’t get to test our anchor. We check out the scrubbing poles at the marina, where we plan to head in the early hours of the morning to inspect Little Nutshell’s hull and give her a good clean so we can work out whether she needs antifouling or new anodes. Our calculations aren’t quite right and we end up sitting on the very end of the concrete footings for the scrubbing poles. It’s a crooked night from then on. We check her bottom and she’s in good nick. There aren’t too many barnacles on the hull, but the propeller is smothered in them. Magnus is a real gentleman and does the majority – actually, all – of the cleaning and scrubbing. It’s muddy, slippery and not the most pleasant job. Then it’s back out of the marina and onto a mooring for the night. Hope you enjoy the episode. Until next time, Wendy and Magnus HYPE US! While servicing the starboard engine we find out the coolant is just completely black... On thing turns into another and we are taking off the whole heat exchanger on this Yanmar engine to clean it up. 20+ years of neglect have not done this heat exchanger well and the O rings were just completely gone. This has led to salt water mixing with the coolant and corroding the engine block causing the coolant to turn completely black and filled with rust particles. After many flushes, cleaning and more flushes we get back to a usable system again. Want to help us out? Two more outstanding performances by the brilliant Yandoo crew of John Winning Jr, Fang Warren and Lewis Brake, on Sydney Harbour today, has given the defending champion team an almost unbeatable lead in the JJ Giltinan 18ft Skiff World Championship, presented by The Winning Group, with only two more races still to be sailed on the weekend. In a SSE 15knots breeze, Yandoo took out the first race (Race 6) by 22s from Lazarus Capital Partners (Tom Cunich, Marc Chapon and Tim Westwood) with Vaikobi (Kirk Mitchell, Andrew Stephenson and Daniel Barnett) a further 39s back in third place. Queensland’s Big Foot Bags & Covers (Dave Hayter) finished in fourth place ahead of Shaw and Partners Financial Services-Australia (Keagan York), Sixt (Jacob Marks), Smeg (Ash Rooklyn), GC Sails (Scott Cunningham, Queensland), Fisher & Paykel (Brett Van Munster) and The Kitchen Maker (Lachlan Steel) in tenth place. Yandoo’s performance in the latter race (Race 7) was even more impressive as the crew were once again faultless to defeat a very hard challenging Shaw and Partners Financial Services-Australia by 42s with Shaw and Partners Financial Services-New Zealand (Eli Liefting) another 31s back in third place. The German Black Knight team, led by Heinrich von Bayern, finished in fourth place ahead of Sixt, GC Sails, The Kitchen Maker, Brisbane 18 Footers (Josh Sloman, Queensland), Smeg and New Zealand’s ASCC (Campbell Stanton). After each boat has discarded its worst race result to date, the scoreboard shows the net positions as Yandoo leading on 8 points, followed by Shaw and Partners Financial services-Australia on 19. GC Sails is third on 34 points, followed by Black Knight on 41, Shaw and Partners Financial Services-New Zealand on 44. Three teams, Lazarus Capital Partners, Vaikobi and Sixt are all equal on 45 points, followed by Smeg on 47 and in tenth place ASCC on 49 points. Race 6: Racing today was over the South-Short Course, and it ws Big Foot Bags & Covers which grabbed an early 13s lead on the beat from the start in Athol Bay to the weather mark off Clark Island. Andoo-USA (Mikey Radziejowski) was in second place, ahead of Sixt, Lazarus and Shaw and Partners-Australia. The spinnaker run to Chowder Bay was a very tight angle which forced teams to drop their spinnakers. The Big Foot crew were under pressure but held off the challengers to reach the Chowder Bay mark with a 4s advantage over Lazarus, Andoo-USA, Vaikobi, Yandoo, Sixt, The Kitchen Maker, Shaw and Partners-Australia and GC Sails. The next leg was a beat across the harbour to the mark off Shark Island and the contest was close as Yandoo closed on Big Foot and Lazarus. Experienced crew work won out for the Yandoo team which took the lead and headed for Athol Bay under spinnaker ahead of a group including Big Foot, Lazarus, Sixt, Vaikobi, Andoo-USA and Shaw and Partners-Australia. Yandoo held a 10s lead over Lazarus at the end of the spinnaker run but was under pressure on the next beat to Clark Island. Lazarus actually crossed Yandoo but the champion crew came back strongly to re-take the lead and head for the finish back at Athol Bay with a 9s margin over a determined Lazarus team. Race 7: The young Queensland crew on Brisbane 18 Footers led from the start but more wonderful crew work from the Yandoo’s crew saw them. 20s ahead of Shaw and Partners-New Zealand with the Brisbane 18 Footers back in third place ahead of Fisher & Paykel. They were closely followed by a group including Lazarus, Sixt, Shaw and Partners-Australia, The Oak Double Bay-4 Pines (Hugo Stoner) and GC Sails. The spinnaker run to Chowder Bay in this race was far more predictable than the earlier race and the New Zealand Shaw and Partners challenged strongly the test Yandoo to the limit. The kiwi team got to within 17s of Yandoo but from that point in the race the defending champs were never headed. Race officials shortened the course to eliminate the final spinnaker run from Clark Island to Athol Bay and Yandoo crossed the finish line in lighter wind to score a comfortable 42s victory. The experience of the Yandoo crew is dominant and the trio rarely make a mistake (if ever) and there looks to be no competitor in the fleet that will be able to stop them from taking out a third consecutive Giltinan World championship. In this episode we leave the beautiful anchorage at Lilla Nassa—but the calm doesn’t last long. As we make our way through the outer Stockholm archipelago, the sky darkens and we end up sailing straight into a thunderstorm in Stora Nassa. After riding out the storm, the reward is worth it. We explore the incredible maze of rocks and islands by dinghy, discovering some of the wildest landscapes in the archipelago. From there we head to the legendary sailing hotspot Sandhamn, the party capital of the Baltic. On the way back toward home we stop at Bullandö to try to fix our radar, before finishing the trip with some diving around Stora Sandön. Storms, exploration, repairs, and a bit of archipelago nightlife. Hi and welcome aboard @SailingAstridTheWombat We are Gav and Shezz and two and a half years ago we bought our Beneteau Oceanis 430 sailboat with absolutely no sailing experience and jumped straight into the deep end of liveaboard sailing. Our very first passage was just over 700 nautical miles, launching us headfirst into the world of bluewater cruising, learning to sail, and real life at sea. Since that moment, we’ve been fully immersed in boat life, documenting the journey of turning a production cruising sailboat into a capable, self-sufficient home as we prepare for full-time liveaboard life. From major sailboat upgrades and off-grid power systems to everyday maintenance and skills building, we’re learning what it truly takes to own, sail, and live on a boat while working toward our goal of sailing around the world. If you’re into sailing adventures, beginner sailing, sailboat ownership, cruising lifestyle, and traveling the world by sailboat, our journey is all about real-time learning, ocean freedom, and building the confidence to chase long-term world cruising under sail. In this episode of our liveaboard sailing journey, we dive into the real side of boat life — improving comfort onboard, tackling unexpected problems, and sharing the experience with friends as we continue preparing our sailboat for sailing around the world. Life on a cruising sailboat is never just about sailing; it’s about constantly adapting, upgrading, and learning as full-time liveaboard sailors. One of the biggest projects in this episode is upgrading our onboard comfort by measuring and fitting a new mattress for our sailboat. When your boat is your full-time home, sleep matters, and creating a comfortable living space is a huge part of sustainable liveaboard life. We walk through the challenges of working with limited space, unusual boat shapes, and the practical realities of improving life aboard a cruising sailboat. But as every boat owner knows, one job often leads to another. While preparing the cabin, we uncover something many sailors eventually face — mould on a sailboat. Dealing with moisture, ventilation, and condensation is a constant challenge in liveaboard sailing, and discovering mould means turning the boat inside out to clean, investigate, and prevent bigger issues down the track. This episode shows the honest reality of sailboat maintenance, problem-solving, and the behind-the-scenes work that keeps a boat safe and comfortable for long-term cruising. Amid the projects and cleaning, we also welcome visitors onboard, sharing a glimpse into the social side of liveaboard cruising life. One of the best parts of living on a sailboat is the community — friends stopping by, sharing stories, and experiencing life afloat together, even while the boat is mid-project. If you’re interested in sailboat living, beginner sailing, boat ownership, or dreaming about traveling the world by sailboat, this episode highlights both the rewarding and challenging sides of the cruising lifestyle. From boat upgrades and maintenance to everyday moments onboard, this is real life at sea — not just the anchorages and sunsets, but the work that makes those moments possible. Follow along as we continue transforming our sailboat into a comfortable, self-sufficient home ready for bluewater cruising and long-term adventure. Every upgrade, every challenge, and every lesson brings us one step closer to our goal of liveaboard sailing around the world. Join us now as we settle into liveaboard life and get our boat ready to take off and sail around the world. As new sailors we want to share all of our learnings and keep it real in our videos. We want to show step by step what it takes to choose a boat, buy the boat and learn how to sail. Our sailing learning curve is steep so come along with us as we learn and grow as liveaboard sailors. We promise you will have a laugh! Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. Two big launches at opposite ends of the world. On top, the 32m Ultim trimaran Gitana 18 headed out from her base in Lorient on the west coast of France for her maiden sail. Down under the Kiwis slipped their dock lines in Auckland to take their newly reconfigured AC75 out for its first sail. Both are big steps forward, both were carefully choreographed affairs and both represent the first steps in two new generations at the very leading edge of the sport. Matt Sheahan reports on these and considers whether there may be a late entry into the 38th America's Cup. Plus, another helping of Docktalk.

This 2017 Bristol Harbor CC is an exceptionally well maintained example of this stunning Doug Zurn designed center console outboard. Beautifully finished in "Stars and Stripes" gunsmoke blue, and newly re-done varnish, this boat is a head-turner wherever she goes. "Vesper" was re-powered a year ago with a brand new Yamaha 200 HP fly-by-wire outboard and, whether fishing or just day-cruising, she is ready for years of trouble free performance Contact Sean Fawcett for more information - Cell: (617) 901-2874 | Email: sfawcett@ecys.com Listing Link: https://ecys.com/yacht-details/?id=85474&title=23-ft-vanquish-2017-bristol-harbor-23-cc-vesper-manchester-by-the-sea-massachusetts-united-states-yacht-for-sale&vessel=2848224 Subscribe to our channel: http://bit.ly/ECYSYouTube Follow us on Instagram: http://bit.ly/ECYSInstagram Follow us on Facebook: http://bit.ly/ECYSFacebook

In this episode of Sailing Seabird, Stuart takes on one of the final steps of our engine rebuild… servicing the Yanmar KM35P gearbox. The problem? He has absolutely zero experience doing it. After months restoring the engine on our €1 abandoned sailboat, this gearbox service could either bring everything together… or ruin the whole rebuild. No pressure. Join us as we open up the Yanmar gearbox, change the oil, inspect the internals, and hope we didn’t just destroy the engine we worked so hard to rebuild. *GET YOURSELF SOME MERCH HERE* https://sailingseabird.com 🌊 *Join our journey* as we restore Seabird from an abandoned sailboat to a home on the sea! We can't afford to replace our mast That means big trouble if this can't be fixed It looks like a small problem, and it would be if it wasn't a carbon fiber mast, If the holes are now to big to be fixed then the mast will either need major repair or replacement which we can't afford. Ready to skipper a bigger sailboat with confidence? Check out NauticEd’s Skipper Large Sailboat Bundle—built for real-world decision-making, not guesswork. - https://www.nauticed.org/bundle/view/skipper?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=4D038JuFPnM Buying or selling a sailboat in the Northeast? Sailboats Northeast helps you price it right, negotiate cleanly, and get to closing without the headaches. - https://www.sneyachts.com What’s the difference between a marine survey and a sea trial—and do you need both? In this video we break it down simply. A survey is the overall inspection of the boat’s condition: structure, decks (including moisture concerns), mechanicals, rig/mast, and major systems. A sea trial is typically part of that process—getting the boat on the water to verify performance: raising/lowering sails, instrument accuracy, and putting the boat through its paces. We also cover what surveys usually catch—and what can still get missed when components are hidden behind structure (like chainplates behind a bulkhead). 00:00 - Survey vs Sea Trial (Quick Definition) 00:10 - What a Survey Covers (Whole-Boat Condition) 00:20 - What a Sea Trial Tests On the Water 00:38 - What Surveys Catch (Most Major Issues) #sailing #sailboat #sailor

Please Subscribe if you like our Global Sailing content, Like and Share. It helps us show our content to more viewers. Thank you. This is your weekly Global Sailing Highlights show, the World on Water, for March 14 2026. As we head towards the 38th Americas Cup in Italy the defenders, Emirates team New Zealand have launched their newest version of their boat. We have videos of their first sail. The Google algorithm seems not to advise some of our subscribers when we upload. So please check that you are subscribed, and the upload alerts bell is checked. This really helps us. Thank you. The good news is that the classic Farr 100, Leopard 3, has been named the overall winner of the R O R C Caribbean 600. Congratulations the crew. The Wednesday Race in the Finn Masters in Queensland Australia. Race 2 of the JJ Giltinan 18ft Skiff World Championship, presented by The Winning Group, produced conditions totally opposite to those of the opening race but the result was the same as the outstanding defending champion Yandoo team took the honours with another display of brilliant crew work on Sydney Harbour.

This video explains how parallel indexing is used during course alteration to monitor a vessel’s position along the planned track. Using radar tools such as EBL and VRM, the Officer of the Watch can quickly detect any deviation from the track and take immediate corrective action. The tutorial demonstrates a practical example along the One Fathom Bank TSS, showing how to set and monitor parallel index lines before and after altering course. #parallelindexing #NavigationalAid #marineradar #arpa #passageplanning #voyageplanning #seamanship #maritime #seafarer #seaman #bsmt #maritimestudents #ecdis https://youtu.be/iVYZ9DNW9GE https://youtu.be/h9XE9Z2wOFw https://youtu.be/veHDoss_sCU
