PEPLINK For me to be connected while being out sailing, Peplink is a must for me to keep my costs down. Yes it costs money to purchase Peplink's gear but it will save you many many times that by allowing you to connect cheaply to the internet via wifi or sim card before you actually need to engage starlink. It really is a no-brainer! Check out PEPLINK here https://www.peplink.com/ Check out the routers here https://www.peplink.com/products/mobile-routers/ Check out the special dome antennae that can keep you connected up to 70km off shore. https://www.peplink.com/products/enterprise-mobility/dome-pro-lr/ Yes I know they say on the website that it connects you up to 40km off shore but I spoke to Peplink's spokesperson and on recent tests it was keeping them connected up to 70km off shore. Now that is connectivity! Thank you Peplink for coming on board for the Elcano World Challenge. Give it a thumbs up if you liked this episode! ► Full test in Multihulls World N°204: https://www.multihulls-world.com/review/catamaran/balance-580-for-crossing-oceans-without-a-second-thought ► Just a few days ahead of the Cannes Yachting Festival, we got the chance of a wonderful trip aboard the Balance 580. With her relatively short nacelle and inverted, “broken” angle bows, this model incorporates all the brand’s visual codes but with, of course, much more comfort on deck and inside compared to the 502. Construction is in a silica and carbon fiber combo in the areas subject to heavy loads. The lamination is done by hand and under vacuum with a foam core and epoxy resin. The 580 #1 we tested showed no signs of wear following her 7,000-mile voyage from South Africa to France and demonstrated her tremendous speed potential—its displacement of less than 17 tons gives this catamaran agility and, above all, exhilarating speed, but without ever escaping the control of its crew. A smooth gliding sensation that invites you to cross the oceans without giving it a second thought. ► TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS: Builder: Balance Catamarans Length overall: 58’4” (17.78 m) Waterline length: 58’4” (17.78 m) Beam: 28’3” (8.6 m) Draft: 5’5”/11’ (1.65/3.35 m) Air draft: 90’ (27.43 m) Light displacement: 36,750 lbs (16.67 t) Mainsail: 1,507 sq ft (140.9 m²) Self-tacking jib: 855 sq ft (79.5 m²) Gennaker: 1,353 sq ft (125.7 m²) Motors: 2 x 57 HP Fuel: 264 US gal (1,000 l) Water: 158 US gal (600 l) ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 600 multihulls tests! A bientôt. During 6 years of part-time boat refit we have changed almost everything inside our 1977 Rival 38. This is our top 10 big changes! What do you think? NB there is a bit of a youtube wierdness at about 10:30 sound is correct, video goes wonky for a few seconds. We are now living aboard our Rival 38 Centre Cockpit full-time while finishing a refit so we can launch ASAP. We have a frequently updated blog at https://sustainablesailing.net with membership options and a weekly newsletter at £2 per month for Early Bird Supporters. When we bought Vida in August 2019 she was in a very tired and damp condition with all original equipment and fittings (much of it not working). We have removed all the gas, diesel and paraffin equipment, and are installing all-electric (motor, cooking etc). Everyone enjoys seeing dolphins round their boat. And it seems catamarans attract more dolphins than monohulls. Presumably because the two bows are more fun to play with - and yes dolphins definitely play on the bow waves. We've seen two swim fast under the bridgedeck from port stern to starboard bow and vice versa, crossing underneath and seeing how close to the bow they could get. And we've seen the other dolphins clearly laughing at the one who hit our bow when cutting it too fine. That didn't happen this time, but here's a recent video taken when sailing our 30ft Sagitta catamaran from Fowey to Plymouth. Unusually for the English Channel it was clear, flat water so we could watch them easily.

Since we were working on the daggerboards again this week, I took some time to go over why we choose to have daggerboards on S/V Lynx instead of mini keels. But, we also got a lot of work done on the boat! So come join Captain Blood, Admiral Marianne, and our XO, Brian as we build our 50' performance cruising catamaran for a circumnavigation voyage. In our latest Dreamtime Sail episode we show how we find safe anchorages in uncharted, remote coral reef areas. Sail along with us as we day hop around the eastern peninsular of Central Sulawesi from Luwuk, fighting currents and adverse winds on our way to the Togean Islands. We go into detail on how we select anchorages in remote areas using satellite imagery and onsite dinghy surveys with a hand held depth gauge.

A couple of weeks ago, we shared some exciting news—we’d found what looked like our dream boat: an ex-commercial prawn trawler that we’d love to convert into a long-range expedition cruiser. It would take a refit, but the potential is incredible. The only catch? Insurance. So the big question remains… are we going to convert a prawn trawler into our next cruiser? We’re back in Darwin, topping up with fuel and supplies before setting sail on our next adventure. Join us as we depart Dinah Beach, head to Cullen Bay for fuel, and get ready for the miles ahead. One minute we’re out here sailing, the next we’re crawling through the belly of a nuclear-powered beast that can disappear beneath the waves for months at a time. Touring this sub honestly felt like stepping onto another planet. Massive thanks to the entire crew for welcoming us onboard, and for sharing such a once-in-a-lifetime glimpse into life beneath the ocean’s surface. 🙏 I've linked the full episode for you guys if you're keen to check it out! xx

Maverick is an impressive example of the Axopar 37 cabin with aft cabin, and one of the only 37's for sale in the Northeast US with 2-zone Mabru battery powered air conditioning! Very clean and well-equipped. She's powered with twin Mercury Verado v8 300 hp engines with only 171 hours and has the best layout for cruising with the aft cabin, separate toilet compartment (with shower!) and gull wing doors. Maverick has been kept in indoor heated storage in the winters and lightly used in the summers.
