A beautiful sailing passage with Rubicon3. Departing Vigo, Spain and stopping at Baiona, Spain before sailing offshore to Las Palmas, Gran Canaria. A total of 1100 nautical miles. We were in S/Y Bluejay, a 60 ft Clipper Yacht, and were a crew of 12, including our amazing skipper and first mate. A first proper ocean passage for me and I loved it. All weathers from flat calm to gale force 9. Our fantastic crew worked so well together; sailing, cooking, cleaning, navigating, enjoying music, poetry and conversation. Lots of fun and laughs and wonderful memories. This was a RYA Yachtmaster Ocean qualifying passage and those trying to achieve this were navigating through celestial navigation [sextant] and dead reckoning. Thanks for watching. 😊

The ARC is the original transocean rally for cruising yachts. Around 150 boats set sail every year in November, sailing from Las Palmas on the island of Gran Canaria to Rodney Bay on Saint Lucia. The rally attracts people of all ages and nationalities, sailing monohulls, multihulls and even motor boats from 27 feet to 100 feet (8.23m-32m). Over 8,000 boats have sailed with us to the Caribbean since the first ARC in 1986. The 2,700NM Atlantic crossing takes around 18-21 days for the average yacht. The record is 8 days and six hours, set by the maxi Rambler 88 (USA) in 2016. La Baleine Blanche ne pourra pas suivre la flottille qui quittera le Guatemala en décembre vers la Jamaique car nous sommes encore en préparation. This episode covers my 6th outing in the new-to-me 1987 Precision 16 sailing dinghy I purchased locally for $800. This time I visit beautiful Aurora Reservoir in Aurora, Colorado. Aurora Reservoir is a city park in the City of Aurora, CO. The park features a sandy swim beach, nice 3 lane boat ramp, clean restroom facilities and nice picnic areas. The reservoir is electric motor and hand-powered watercraft only...no gas outboards permitted. The Precision 16 is a lightweight Stephen Seaton-designed un-ballasted centerboard sailing dinghy with a planing hull manufactured from 1982 until the mid 90s. It was superseded in 1995 by the smaller Jim Taylor-designed Precision 15 (P-15CB and P-15K). Remember the bearing we replaced in Vigo — the one we hoped would stop the squeaking and remove the play? Yeah… it didn’t. And when we finally dug into it again, we realised the brand new €500 bearing missed 0,5-1 mm. Which coursed the same noise, same play and same headache. So we secured the rudder (yes, again… in the water), tapped the old bearing back in and found a shipyard in Lagos who could actually help us. Luckily, a yard took us in and made a new custom bearing in just one day. A VERY snug fit — but that’s what we wanted.
