We arrive back in Shelter Bay Marina for a haul out as well as routine maintenance to prepare for San Blas and a Panama canal transit. This is a video for people who want to see the details of working in a Nordhavn 62 engine room like Kariwa. All ER are different, even on similar models... you have seen one Nordhavn, then you have seen one Nordhavn.

In this episode, I am sharing my experience and knowledge of handling my Bavaria 55 mass-production yacht safely through a violent storm. It’s a big difference between racing and being on a long distance sail in remote places. Some might jump to conclusions thats wrong. This is a defensive way of sailing in winds above 55 kts and preparation for above 60. I have a huge responsibility as people watching can and often will copy my strategy. Hence the fact this is not bragging or over selling. It’s realistic and safety in mind m. This is a more technical video where I reveal my strategies in real-life heavy-weather sailing. We are talking above 55+ knots of wind where things really starts to happen. My strategies with a storm sail and reefed Main has proven to work above 60 knots of wind. The last episode I was not rigged with storm sail as it was not predicted. So I’m showing the limitations and what I did when seeing 57. Not knowing how much it was going to be, I took a break to decide next move. If it was going to reach 60 I would have to either continue with my safety mode, or go with reef 3 only, meaning going up against the wind to get Main up with my violent storm reef. Without telling you how to, I am sharing how I do. This might not work for you or even with your boat. And this is my point. I recommend knowing not only your own limitations but even your boat's limitations. I even share why a heaving to strategy could be the fast track to send your rig into the ocean. The same goes for a furling genoa. This does have some limitations and can be dangerous. Lots of dismasting incidents occur for some obvious reasons but are somehow rarely talked about. Human error leading to serious problems is often mistaken for poor quality, and very popular to point at production yachts instead of looking in the mirror. Lots of myths false information, and even dangerous advice. Not all strategies work on all boats. Different sizes and hull designs often give different results. If I did not know my boat's limitations, if I had not been on top of maintenance, and even having experience my rigg would come down. This is key to understanding sailing safely and surviving a violent storm. Hopefully, some will find this valuable and even point some of you in a new direction learning more about how to deal with situations on your own. As normal I do not claim to have the blueprint, and nor do I say this is how to. I'm sharing what's proven to work for me. I am even pointing out the biggest and most frequent misunderstanding. A cutter stay is good but not the best solution for heavy-weather sailing either. Unless you only have a small storm jib there for above 50 kt sailing. I still have not met anyone with this permanently, instead, they have slightly smaller genoa mostly used to fly wing on wing. Meaning we would have the exact same challenge. Changing sails is my biggest challenge alone at sea, and this means my violent storm solution does have an Achilles heel. I can not handle a violent storm as I want to if not planned. So what I share is the consequence of a weather prediction turning out to be seriously out of target. European models on predictions are normally extremely good. However local phenomenon can sometimes be missed. A storm jib in a bag attached works fine, but my experience is it can not be furled in. So as a solo sailor with a storm jib thats not possible to furle create another challenge. What to do when it reach 75. Even though this is season 6 on YouTube I did not make that many videos in the beginning. Before full-time sailing, I sailed several seasons in the Mediterranean prior to, and obviously also in Scandinavia. I have been traveling the world before and have also been an active regatta sailor. I had my first sailboat at age 7 and have been sailing ever since. Also, more than 10 years of experience in Search and Rescue at sea in Norway.

It is unfurled by an outhaul furler mounted on the boom. But they DO need cleaning and servicing periodically. Electric 'brushed' motors can become clogged with carbon deposits and the brushes themselves can wear down or simply break. I simple clean and brush replacement can add years to the life of an electric motor. Thanks to ErodexUK (formally ECP) for sourcing the right brushes. Brushless motors, which do not use brushes, have become more popular in many modern applications due to their improved efficiency and reliability.. but not on our boat! If you're a professional, expert or even an old salty sea dog with some good advice on how to service electric motors or in-mast furling systems, then please leave any constructive criticism, insight and advice in the comments below the videos. We say goodbye to our beloved sailboat and to our friends in Grenada and we flight to Annapolis in the USA to visit friends and, of course, to go sailing 😁. So, we created "Odd Life Crafting", a project composed of many smaller projects that we call seasons. The first one was the creation of Odd Life Crafting. The idea was to build a metal boat to be able to travel the world taking our house with us, but we didn't have money for that. So, we started the next season: we built a tiny shipping container house with no prior experience in building to gain some skills to build a boat. When we were almost finished we found a boat 700km away from our hometown that was neglected for over 22 years and we spent 2 years refitting her (Season 3). The last season has been a dream coming true… we are exploring the Brazilian coast with OUR BOAT that we called Odd.. But wait? What happened to the house?

These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and now sailing the boat—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that traditional wooden boats command. Andreas Johansson, Nimbus Project Manager: "My name is Andreas Johansson and I'm the Nimbus Project Manager of the new Nimbus W11. The W11 is built with functional Scandinavian design as a core element in true Nimbus tradition, executed with care to ensure the best comfort and experience for the user. It also features the award- winding Nimbus sidewalk design which provides easy and safe movement on deck. The W11 is built on the same well balanced stepped hull as the T11 and the C11 with proven great high-speed properties in combination with a low planning thresholds. The Nimbus W11 will be equipped with a Quick Qyro Stabilizer which offers up to 95% roll reduction at sea, and this will make being and living on the boat a lot more safe and comfortable." Jonas Gothberg, Nimbus Commercial Director: "Quick is is a strategic partner for Nimbus. We chose Quick because of many reasons. One is they have a broad variety of products; everything from bow thrusters to winches, and now we also implement the gyro in the system. We also actually chose Quick, because the Gyro is of course well functioning but it's easy to maintenance and easy to install, doesn't demand anything and they have very good cooperation with Quick, and above all they are very nice people to work with!" Gineico Marine interview Sergio Sagramoso, President and Founder of Pardo Yachts, on why they continue to choose the Quick Gyro for their boats! "Gyros - EVERYBODY wants them... they see it as an essential part of their boat." "Good afternoon, welcome to the show. We are Pardo Yachts Miami and this is our stand. Here we have a Pardo 43 and it's equipped with a X13 Quick Gyro We have a 52 GT here which has an X19 Quick Gyro. And we have a Pardo 50 over there with an X19 Quick Gyro also Pardo 38 has an X7 Quick Gyro. In the back here we have a Pardo 60 with an X25 Quick Gyro. Basically every model that we sell has a Quick Gyro. Out of 135 boats we have in the water, 130 have Quick Gyros. It's a most stellar option for us right now. Q: And what do you think the reason is? A: ... For gyro, everybody wants them on their boats. I mean it's just a no-brainer. Everybody wants to have the boat stay quiet and not move and rock with the waves - and they see it as a essential part of a boat. Q: Any reason why you pick Quick over any other brands? A: Well we like the fact that Quick is air cooled not water cooled. We have a lot of debris and vegetation under the water here so they tend to get clogged quite a bit if it's water cooled - so makes it simpler for the maintenance... then to keep the customer happy!" Contact the Team and we'll be able to discuss the best gyro to suit your boat. 📍 QUEENSLAND HEAD OFFICE & SHOWROOM G45, 76-84 Waterway Drive, Coomera, Qld, 4209 https://www.gineicomarine.com.au/ 👉 AUSTRALIA (+61) 7 5556 0244 👉 NEW ZEALAND (+64) 21 275 7608 👉 EMAIL: Sales@Gineicomarine.com.au

With another great year of making memories on the water it was once again time to lift GTR out out of the water for the winter. We setup a time lapse video to record the lift out. Getting GTR up and out of the water was not and issue with four line attached to help control the boat in the freshening breeze. It was not that easy getting the mast out, with some work required to replace the electrical wire in the mast she needed to be lifted out. This lift out was made difficult due the increasing breeze and rain. We were lucky to have am experience team around us and many hands to control the mast as we lifted it up and laid it down flat. With the boat safely up on the block for the winter the team at bottom up boats will now go into maintenance mode to get the ship ready for the 2024 season. We have lots of great footage from the year on the water and now have the time on our side produce more content than ever.

Check out our website to know more about it https://www.oddlifecrafting.com/blog We hope to inspire others to follow their dreams. Boat life in a marina consists of completing maintenance jobs on your sailboat. Today a rigging check, tomorrow up the mast again to clean the rail. As live aboard sailors who prefer to anchor off remote islands, being in a town also gives as the chance to get medical attention, this time for broken bones. Unfortunately it is our kitten Mocha who had her paw stepped on. Off to the vet for an x-ray. As time will tell it is our eldest son Finn, forging a life as a professional athlete, who may need medical attention the most. It took six weeks for Rob and rowing partner, Phil Stubbs, to complete winning the inaugural Atlantic Rowing Race. Skip forward to 2014 and, married with three children, Rob and his wife Rachel purchased Javelot, a 43 ft Fountaine Pajot catamaran. Armed only with Rob's 3 years of racing P class yachts from the age of 11 to 13, and Rachel's non existent sailing knowledge, We set off to learn the ropes of ocean sailing. We broke stuff, replaced stuff and got to know their boat before heading offshore with the kids, Finn (then 13), Declan (then 11) and Ivan (then 8), in tow. Through trial and error we have become confident wayfarers, kind of. The plan? To sail around the world. Part of the journey will be retracing Rob’s eldest brother Kerry’s travels at sea. Using Kerry’s original letters from the 1970’s we hope to retrace his movements from Australia through Indonesia and South East Asia to Cambodia where Kerry’s life was cut short after straying into Cambodian waters in 1978. Kerry and two friends were attacked by a Khmer Rouge gun boat, captured, tortured and executed. www.brothernumberone.co.nz ***** Follow us in real time on Instagram and Facebook @thecruisingkiwis @finn_hamill @declan_hamill @ivanhamill #TheCruisingKiwis

Here in Long Beach, CA at Alamitos Bay Marina we have a boat auction twice per year. Come with me and watch people bid on sailboats and power boats. This time the bidding goes nuts; some boats sell for a lot and some don't get a bid at all even though the opening bid at the auction for "boats in the water" is only $400. These boats are usually in pretty bad shape but this time there was one sailboat, a Cal 46, that was in really good condition and the selling price was on par. Last auction a lot of sailboats didn't get a bid or sold for very cheap but this auction was different because more sailboats sold at this auction. This was a fun boat auction to watch but the inventory was a little low if you ask me. I've seen a lot more sailboats at past auctions so be sure to subscribe if you want to know when the next auction is happening and see my next boat auction video. Need to know how to service your Yanmar Sail Drive 60s? This video is for you! Every two years we haul out for bottom paint and sail drive maintenance. We couldn’t find any video on how to service our sail drives so we made our own from start to finish: Scraping props, removing props, line cutters and sail drives, removing the grooves, replacing the seals and o-rings, re-installing sail drives, prepping and painting the sail drive, reinstalling folding props and line cutters. We hope this is helpful to you. Also, note the information listed below! We are Eileen and Brown Councill. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we had very NO sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia. So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. We are so glad you have decided to join us, and we hope that you will find our story so compelling that it will inspire you to chase your dreams too! As a viewer, we consider you to be part of our family and look forward to getting to know you. Don't hesitate to comment on our videos and ask questions. We will do our best to answer every correspondence! All we ask is that you have patience with us as we work really hard to improve our camera/video techniques and ability to tell a story. Hopefully, you will be as BLOWN AWAY from watching, as we are in experiencing and producing our adventures! HOW CAN YOU SUPPORT US? Night climbing the Enchanted Tower in New Mexico, a long-time goal for Steve and Robin, is just as beautiful as they thought it might be. This is last episode of our Organ Mountain rock climbing trip has yes, THAT big question... the popped question. Fitting that these two get engaged with helmets on, as perhaps all sensible people should. Steve shows off a cool little knife and a bit of info about gear left on mountain climbing trails, we get some great Organ Mountain views into the drone camera, and we shove off toward the coast to the wooden boat we miss so much. Lots to do, and more adventures to have. -------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella started as a wooden boat building project in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve began the journey as an amateur wooden boat builder crafting a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and now sailing the boat—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that traditional wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project continues beyond the boat shop, as Steve and crew travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. -------------------------- If you are interested in supporting/helping here are a few ways: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/how-to-help Acorn to Arabella's wishlist: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/wishlistpriority TotalBoat supports A2A! Sailing is a roller coaster in so many ways. Time in the boatyard is never one of the highs it has to be said, but so far our lifts have gone smoothly and to plan. Not this time! I did have plans to tackle some areas of the boat that I had never had apart before, not because of any apparent issue, but just for piece of mind before our Atlantis crossing. Silly of me to think there would be time for non urgent preventative maintenance! Boats have a habit of giving you something pressing to do just when you thought you had time to breath. Our issue is the base of the compression post which has now moved about 10mm down on the starboard side. This is a serious situation that will require the mast to be un stepped and the compression post taken out. It is something we have been monitoring ever since we bought Fair Isle as it was clear that there had been movement in this area in the past which the surveyor thought was probably settlement when new. Well it seems that wasn't the case and having the rigging all up to proper tension now has prompted it to sink some more so something clearly has to be done. The good thing is we are in the right place to get this done properly along with many other boat issues. We are very happy with the top sides now and having fun meeting some interesting people. Cyclone Dust Collector Separator for Shop Vac Separator Dust Powder Filter for Vacuums Dust Extractor Accessories Woodworking The idea was to build a very compact all in one woodworking station for a small garage or a small workshop. The woodworking station has a firm stand, but can also be moved easily, watch part 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0BNEKGZLTw In this part I will show you how I implemented the dust collector, filter and vacuum motor, no vacuum cleaner is needed. The motor is a standard vacuum cleaner motor. I removed it from an old vacuum cleaner, but even new such motors cost very little (in some countries less than 20 dollars) the suction switches on automatically. In this video I show how it works https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQCAuytiWuA The idea of this dust collection system can in principle also be applied to a workbench or other machines because it is very compact and can be easily customized. next I would like to integrate the router. #table saw with diy integrated shop vac #all in one woodworking station #table saw with best dust collection #workbench with table saw and router #diy dust collector

Learn about the investment plans for Boston Harbor Shipyard and Marina (BHSM). This 23-acre mixed-use facility supports maritime industrial activities in the East Boston Designated Port Area with commercial marine and working waterfront industries as well as public amenities like the ICA Watershed, Seabiscuit café and Eastie Fit. With new investments and program expansion, BHSM will reconstruct bulkheads and piers, purchase a new boat lift, build three smaller and one larger shed for vessel repairs and maintenance, expand the marina, expand the Harborwalk, improve pedestrian access, and create a public container village.
