In this episode, we spend time with an incredible NGO in Malta that’s doing vital work to clean up the harbours. These dedicated volunteers aren’t afraid to get stuck in—literally diving into the water to pull up years’ worth of rubbish and debris from the seabed. It was both shocking and inspiring to watch them in action. At one point, we saw them haul up huge ropes, tangled fishing nets, and even old tyres that had been lying underwater for who knows how long. It’s a powerful reminder of the impact pollution has on our oceans, but also of the difference people can make when they care enough to take action. What really struck us was the energy and passion of the team. This isn’t glamorous work—it’s cold, wet, and physically demanding—but their sense of purpose was contagious. They’re not just cleaning harbours; they’re helping to restore marine ecosystems and make the waterfronts safer and more beautiful for everyone. We move down to Selina from the anchorage we were in. After a few days we get a phone call one evening and the next morning Cid is on a plane flying back to England. I stay with the boat and get into a few jobs. I guess I will be here a few more weeks. There is a couple of chandlers near by, a Lidl and a garage where we can get clean potable water and fuel. Transport is cheap via busses there is Uber and Bolt on the island but they are quite expensive and you see a lot more on the bus. Plus its a day out 😉 Anyway enjoy the video. Sailing Tunisia to Malta across the Mediterranean. Will it go to plan? This is a good long video of the crossing from Tunisia to Malta. We had been watching a cold front moving North East across the region and this would make a fantastic downwind or aft of the beam run to Malta. But Mr stupid here forgot that you have to checkout with the Garda Civil from Tunisia 24 hours before you leave. We managed to get checked out but the customs and police always want to check your boat before you leave and this with the extra paper work put us 2 hours behind schedule and we sort of missed the wind only catching it really for the first few hours and then in dribs and drabs during the crossing. Fishing vessels in this area are a law unto themselves and in both crossings there and back we encountered them running without AIS and not answering their radios even using "Vessel in position". Still we made it and it was not too bad a sail doing the 170 miles in 28 hours. This video is the story of this journey. Enjoy the video. I had looked up a how to do this and found a video but the info was wrong and then I damaged a gasket getting the casting off. It is done but one of the two O rings will have to wait until I can get a full gasket set on board and my big puller to remove the chank shaft pulley. Oh well you cant win them all. Today we provide you with a complete realtime update as of today May 6th, 2025. We are off the dock and have been 2 weeks into this cruising adventure. We spent about a week out on anchor just outside of our marina in clearwater before making our 1st 3 day passage to Marathon, FL. We have been here just over a week and will be here for just a bit longer before we meet up with our buddy boat and start our voyage north where we hope to settle for about a month in Annapolis about Mid Sept. Unexpected maintenance today! When washing the boat, the scupper was plugged with barnacles so we needed to attend to that problem so we can drain the water in the scupper. Thanks to Andy his handy, dandy screw driver and goes into the cold water for a swim to clear out the drain!
