In this second chapter of our Moroccan road trip, we take you from the stunning red rock formations of the Dades Valley all the way to the desert gateway of M’Hamid—sharing the first two of five unexpected moments that truly caught us by surprise. This isn’t the beginning of our journey—we started back in Rabat, made our way through Fes, and hiked the Todra Canyon (check out this part here https://youtu.be/NGAiz61catM). In this episode, we continue south through the vibrant village of Aït Arbi, explore the surreal ‘Monkey Fingers’ rock formations, navigate a canyon hike that felt more like a playground, and wind our way over the snowy peaks of the Anti-Atlas—yes, snow in Morocco! With each turn, Morocco keeps challenging our assumptions, and this leg of the trip reminded us why we travel: for the joy of discovery, the beauty of the unexpected, and the stories waiting in the in-between places. Stick around as we reach the edge of the Sahara and prepare for a four-day desert trek with two dogs, two camels, and two curious humans. Part 2 coming next week! My life aboard was a mix of adventure and reflection, shaping an independent woman’s story of resilience, personal growth, and embracing the sailing lifestyle. Along the way, I became an ocean conservation activist with In Mocean, stumbled across my dog Boga, and discovered the joys and challenges of sailing with a dog. Now, I’m exploring a new chapter, having jumped aboard my partner’s Hallberg Rassy Rasmus with Boga and his Australian Kelpie, Jango. This week, Arabella makes her way to Ocracoke Island, at the south end of North Carolina’s Outer Banks. Robin and I have been looking forward to visiting the Outer Banks, and maybe exploring long-abandoned Portsmouth Island. With winds expected to pipe up, we deployed a conservative sail plan for our passage to Ocracoke. Once we were a few miles from Silver Lake harbor, the seas picked up. Navigating a few tricky, skinny sections of channel, Arabella started to hit bottom at the trough of every wave. Thinking quickly, I threw out the jib to heel the boat and slightly reduce our draft. It worked, and we quickly found deeper water…but not for long. We ran up on a sandbar in Nine Foot Shoal channel. Not wanting to get tossed into shallower waters, Robin ran up and dropped the anchor. Fortunately, once the anchor bit, Arabella slipped into deeper water. We decided to spend the night anchored out and wait for the wind and seas to calm down before picking our way into the harbor. In the morning, a local navigated out the channel past us, giving us a better idea of how to safely pick our way through the tricky channel. We made it safely into Silver Lake, dropped the hook, and took a big exhalation. Then we went exploring: Cape Hatteras, Springer Point, Hammock Hills, the public garden, and—of course—the shops around town. We decided to stay put in Ocracoke for a few days while I did some work on the dodger. I needed to reshape her, paint her, and run the solar panel and Starlink cables. This will make our dodger setup slicker (and slimmer) than ever. -------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella started as a wooden boat building project in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve began the journey as an amateur wooden boat builder crafting a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and now sailing the boat—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that traditional wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project continues beyond the boat shop, as Steve and crew travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. -------------------------- If you are interested in supporting/helping here are a few ways: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/how-to-help Acorn to Arabella's wishlist: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/wishlistpriority TotalBoat supports A2A! January 6-11, 2021 ------------------------------- Welcome back to another Sailing ELANE episode on the breath-taking Algarve Coast of Portugal, this time in Lagos. Jan 7 – (Praia dos Estudantes Beach, Lagos) We were fascinated by the street art of Lagos, but we were eager to see the spectacular coastline here, too. So, we decided to do the day backwards today…first play (stroll the beach), then work. The beaches weren’t empty only bc of Covid, but bc it was soo cold (48 F/9C)! Don’t-get-hit-by-the-wave Game Grottes de Lagos (Lagos Caves) Jan 8 – Niko’s 11th bday (Ben&Jerry’s Choc Fudge Brownie Ice Cream in bed) Jan 10 (Sun) – Curfew lockdown from 1pm: boys surfing, Liv takes a safety-at-sea course, knitting, oil change (2C) While we wait on both the wind vane and Iridium Go to arrive, Eivind does some maintenance on ELANE to get our vessel in ship-shape for our longest passage yet to the Canary Islands. We’ve been looking forward to the Canaries since Departure Day from Norway. So, this being our next stop gave us hope in the face of the Covid curfew and lockdown. While awaiting the arrival of both the wind vane and Iridium Go, Eivind does some maintenance on ELANE to ensure our vessel is in optimal condition for our upcoming long passage to the Canary Islands. We have eagerly anticipated reaching the Canaries since our departure from Norway. So, knowing that it is our next destination keeps the morale up amidst the Covid-induced curfew and lockdown. Jan 11 (11C) – boys go boarding for gym class + Daddy instructs Aksel how to use harpoon gun Aksel had some creative solutions to install the Iridium Go Antenna. Daddy was glad for the help! Teamwork! Check out our next episode where we find diesel bugs in our newly changed oil tank, explore more of the spectacular coastline and visit the charming, neighboring coastal town of Portimao. Another 2 weeks goes by before we are ready to cast off the lines for off-shore sailing, with no possibility of return! Stay tuned! Cheers, ELANE ______________________________ CREDITS: Movavi Video Suite 2025 Epidemic Sound Beatleap Videoleap Photos: https://www.pbo.co.uk/

Back on the boat for Episode 2, and things are already getting interesting… I found about a gallon of water sitting behind the front bulkhead up in the bow. Definitely not what I was hoping to see this early on. In this video, I take a closer look at the bow area and try to figure out where that water is coming from — could be rain, a leaky fitting, or something worse. No idea yet, but we’ll start digging. Also got to play with a few new tools I’ve picked up for the refit, which definitely made things a bit more fun (and a bit more chaotic). This refit’s turning into more of an adventure than I expected, but I’m here for it. If you’ve had water issues like this or just enjoy following boat projects, I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments. Thanks for being here. More to come. #SailboatRefit #BoatLife #DIYBoatProjects #ColvicUFO27 #BoatRestoration #SailingJourney

IN THIS VIDEO: #SailRepair and #GTFOplan As Dennis and Ann sail overnight from Guadeloupe to Sint Maarten to pick up crew for their North Atlantic passage to the Med, disaster strikes. During Ann’s night watch, a loud rip and flapping sail break the silence—yep, the Code Zero has torn dramatically... in the dark... mid-passage. She blasts the horn to wake Dennis, and together they recover the sail. Dennis is convinced it’s a total loss. Before leaving Guadeloupe, Ann checks them out and takes Schatzi on her final island walk 🐾, while Dennis tops up GoTFO⛵️’s diesel tanks and jerry cans (fuel's only getting pricier in Europe). Ann scores a case of Carib and Nutella, because priorities. At sea, the sail looks calm by day, but ominous music hints at what’s coming. Ann wakes in a panic, thinking Schatzi is missing—only to remember she’s up top with Dennis, avoiding the cabin in rough seas. Schatzi pulls an all-nighter, then crashes next to the cabbage and watermelon. 🤣 Dennis recounts being jolted awake by Ann’s long horn blast—an "all hands on deck" signal. After switching to the jib, he’s sure the Code Zero is beyond repair. Ann couldn’t care less about the rolly Sint Maarten anchorage—she just wants off the boat. The damage? A brutal rip from tack nearly all the way up the luff. Not a Zoom Sails issue—GoTFO⛵️ was well under the 25 TWS limit. After checking into Sint Maarten, they drop the sail at Tropical Sail Loft and head straight for a drink at Lagoonies. 🍻 Back onboard, Dennis gets cheeky with innuendos (and Ann’s butt) while removing dinghy wheels. He also tackles winch corrosion caused by a poorly installed flap from Balance. Turns out the patch Ann added using a Sailrite video had weakened the sail—thankfully, Tropical Sail Loft can repair it at a reasonable price. 🙌 Oh—and they show off an awesome gift from their best friend, Rob. Total legend. Tropical Sail Loft - great prices and fast service! Mattie was so helpful❣️ WhatsApp +1 721-553-2759 Zoom Sails zoomsails.com Sailrite suggested repair was in our 94th video: https://youtu.be/EWt0JSk7A78 CREDITS: Hitman by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ CURRENT LOCATION: https://forecast.predictwind.com/tracking/display/SV-GTFO/ ABOUT OUR CATAMARAN: We love our new Balance 482 - it's a perfect size for a cruising couple to handle and is a great "balance" of performance and comfort. One of our favorite features is the excellent ventilation since we mostly live as "hookers" (aka at anchor) where the boat automatically turns into the wind so we stay cool and we don't need to battle mold. We also have starlink for easy off-grid life. Our 2400 watt solar panel array also means we rarely need to run an engine to charge our batteries. ABOUT US: We saved for a our future boat, sold everything that we owned, and shipped the rest in a container to Cape Town, South Africa. We then flew there and explored South Africa by way of a safari and touring Cape Town before moving aboard our boat. We then sailed to Saint Helena, Ascension Island, Fernando de Naronha (Brazil), Martinique, Sint Maarten (Dutch and French side), the US Virgin Islands (Saint Croix, Saint John, and Saint Thomas), the British Virgin Islands (Anegada, Norman Island, Jost van Dyke, and Anegada), The Bahamas (Inagua, Crooked Island, Long Island, George Town, Staniel Cay, the Exumas, and Eleuthera). We then sailed back to the United States, making landfall in Cape Canaveral, Florida. From there our destinations are endless! Both Dennis and Ann grew up military brats with Army fathers. Dennis (the Colonel) served 30 years in the US Army and his retirement pension helped us retire in our 50s. Ann (the ship's Captain) wrote Test Automation in Python and Java. Dennis and Ann met on Match.com where Ann had in her profile "Do you want to sail the world with me?" Ann easily brought Dennis into sailing, and he loved the GTFOplan of retiring early and sailing the world. After many years of saving, living on one income but earning two, and cutting back on everything possible, they saved enough to buy a Balance 482. Follow them as they get real about boat life and all the hassles of buying a new boat because we all know N.E.W. means Not Everything Works. Sailing my 2010 Precision 18 sailboat on a high-altitude (8,601 ft) Colorado lake under gloomy skies on a Sunday afternoon in August. The morning started out sunny and with clear skies, so I did some minor maintenance on the boat at the marina. By the time I got on the lake, afternoon thunderstorms were closing in. I stayed very close to the marina and only sailed for about 90 minutes. Eventually, rain and lightning drove me off the lake. But the sailing winds while I was out were ideal, and I'm so glad I went for it! We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, two years after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. But for these people it's a dream, or may not even be a dream. We will look around and when the opportunity to help comes we will put our hands and hearts in to it.

A Bruce Farr design built by BSI in Sweden to the highest standards. The quality of the construction is evident throughout. This Bruce Farr 64 is a fantastic opportunity for those looking for a comfortable and capable blue water cruiser which is equally suitable for cruising in the Mediterranean. Big enough to sail in complete comfort and luxury but still manageable shorthanded. Hydraulic in-mast and jib furlers as well as a captive mainsheet make her easy to sail from the cockpit. She is in her current ownership for over 10 years and has been primarily sailed in the Mediterranean although she is readily equipped for long distance cruising with her large diesel capacity, lithium-ion domestic battery bank, water maker, air conditioning and independent diesel heating. She is extremely well specified with a long list of additional options. She has a well thought through interior layout which is both well finished and extremely ergonomic. Light and airy deck saloon with a large dining table, chart table, storage and kitchen amidships. Master cabin with en suite bathroom forward of the mast with a single bunk cabin leading forward of that to the workshop which can also be accessed via a through deck hatch. Day heads and single berth in aft passageway. One twin and one double aft with third bathroom. Tecma freshwater flush toilets throughout. Machinery is all easily accessible for maintenance. Since purchase, her current owner has continued to upgrade the yacht. In 2014 a new engine and generator were installed (both have seen modest use since). In 2015 a new carbon mast was installed and all Raymarine navigation equipment was upgraded. 2021 saw the batteries upgraded to lithium-ion. New 12.5mm teak was laid on the majority of the deck and a fuel cleaning system was installed in 2024. For the full list of upgrades, machinery and inventory see below in the detailed specification. Viewings are highly recommended. Fitting lapstrake (clinker) planks can be one of the trickiest parts of traditional boatbuilding—but when done right, it results in a beautiful, strong hull. In this episode of Building Gannet, I walk you through essential tips and techniques to get your lapstrake planks to lay down in their natural position using glued epoxy construction. We give our stanard candid boat maintenance approach to repairing and prepping the hull and keel. As ever suffer some minor setbacks, including much trial and error. As ever we are learning as we go and are 100% open to your feedback on our attempted work. Key include sanding down the antifoul paint and rust on the keel using various tools such as a DA (dual-action) sander, an angle grinder, and use rust converter chemicals for the first time. In our own way we stress the importance of precision measuring in aligning the mast base to the deck, while joking about our own mistakes and slow pacing across months of work. Despite the challenges and messiness, we offer an exploration of routine boat maintenance tasks and honest reflections on DIY efforts. We heard that the Indonesian check in system for yachts was going online so we decided to try and do it ourselves without an agent like a few other boats had done it before us. Apart from a little patience it was so far quite simple . Once on our way, we sailed on and continued to dodge the bizarre selection of Fish Attraction Devices thst were floating around everywhere. Some even looked like floating homes . The wind died down so we stopped in an idylic cove called turtle bay where we dropped our anchor and tied up shorelines next to our buddy boat " Teatime". We spent many serene days completing a few boat jobs, playing on the beach, watching the hermit crabs and cleaning up the plastic. A squall awoke us from our dream so we started to plan our journey to reach the next destination....Sorong here we come ! But this wasn’t always our life. In 2020, we found Yabá abandoned, sinking, and on the verge of being lost forever. We had no experience in boatbuilding, only a wild dream and the determination to make it happen. We worked relentlessly, learning from the best local shipwrights and pouring everything we had into this rebuild. It took four years of sweat, setbacks, and unwavering commitment, but today, Yabá is more than just a boat, she’s our home, our biggest adventure, and the proof that crazy dreams *can* come true. In late August 2020, we set sail from Sweden on our first big adventure – a year-long journey to the Caribbean and back. Fast forward to October 2023, we took the plunge again and bought a Wasa 530, a sailboat that had been sitting idle for over 15 years. She’s in need of some serious TLC, and we’re on a mission to transform her into the ultimate blue water cruiser! On our channel, you’ll follow every step of this exciting journey – from boat renovations to ocean-ready upgrades, and everything in between. On this week's episode of Onboard Lifestyle, the crew was so involved with finishing up the synthetic rigging, the haul out date snuck up on us. With a nicely timed break in the wind, we shift gears and haul basik out of the water for the first time in 26 months. Everything ran smooth...until it didn't! With basik safely blocked up, it is time for this crew to get busy. Unfortunately we now have another unplanned repair to add to our routine maintenance list. Come back next week to see how we plow through the added workload...see you then! JOIN OUR CREW!
