Unexpected maintenance today! When washing the boat, the scupper was plugged with barnacles so we needed to attend to that problem so we can drain the water in the scupper. Thanks to Andy his handy, dandy screw driver and goes into the cold water for a swim to clear out the drain! Ep 123 ~ DIY Fuel Polishing Today we made our very own fuel polisher to clean our diesel fuel tanks. We added some fuel bug cleaner and then cleaned out the aft fuel tank. Best thing is that we can take it along with us so if we need to clean out the tanks again, we can! The starter battery was old and needed to be changed and when we checked the house battery that was only holding 60% of capacity. We renewed the starter battery and upgraded the house battery to lithium as it was a Black Friday deal we got a bargain 200Ah/2560Wh LiFePO4 battery. Adding a BM712 from Victron and a 1230/12/20 Victron smart charger means we have a great setup with only the solar to add. Here is what we did to the van and yes it was freezing cold!! As beginner sailors in our first year of cruising we've tried our best to avoid marina's for the sake of savings. This comes with sacrifice - many a night of lost sleep in roley anchorages; taking the extra time to do trips back in forth in the tender with water, fuel and provisions and doing boat work and maintenance on anchor. This week however, we're treating ourselves to the luxury of a marina! We're heading back down south for a heartwarming reunion with our families and to attend our best friends wedding as bridesmaid and groomsman. We can't express our gratitude enough to Mike Harris from Magnetic Island Marina who found a safe berth for our floating home as we leave her for the first time.
