After a week of chasing horizon lines through the Sea of Cortez, we finally found ourselves dropping anchor in the remote and rugged paradise of Agua Verde, Baja California Sur — a place where time slows down and the mountains meet the sea in perfect harmony. Speaking of meeting, we also reunited with the crews of SV Kessel and SV Remedy, our Cheoy Lee 41' crashing their Hans Christian Yacht party! In this episode, we navigate turquoise waters and steep desert cliffs, explore sea caves and sandy shores, hike up goat trails for panoramic views, and discover why so many cruisers say Agua Verde is their favorite spot in Baja California Sur. I had written Ibiza off—too touristy, too loud, too crowded. But this stop reminded me how important it is to let go of assumptions. Sailing into Ibiza in the off-season, I found quiet corners, golden light, and a slower rhythm that made me see the island in a whole new way. In this episode of Untie The Lines, we explore the ancient streets of Ibiza Old Town (Dalt Vila), pass through the impressive gates near the marina in Santa Eulalia, and hike out to the mystical Es Vedrà rock—also known as the Eye of Es Vedrà. We also visit Sa Pedrera, a surreal rocky landscape tied to the legends of Atlantis. It’s a short stopover as we wait out some heavy weather before continuing our sailing journey toward Africa, but it left a surprisingly deep impression. 00:00 Intro: Ibiza took me by surprise 00:51 Marina Santa Eulalia in Ibiza 02:42 Road Trip Ibiza Island: our plan for the day 04:21 Ibiza Old Town (Dalt Vila) 07:24 Hiking Sa Pedrera (the hidden Atlantis) 12:30 Hiking to the Eye of Es Vedra Rock (El Ojo de Es Vedra) If you're dreaming of living on a sailboat, curious about intentional travel, or drawn to the beauty of saltlife, this episode is for you. Facing the challenges of solo sailing as a female sailor, I navigated the highs and lows of single-handed sailing while tackling DIY boat repair projects, from engine fixes to full boat refits on a budget. My life aboard was a mix of adventure and reflection, shaping an independent woman’s story of resilience, personal growth, and embracing the sailing lifestyle. Along the way, I became an ocean conservation activist with In Mocean, stumbled across my dog Boga, and discovered the joys and challenges of sailing with a dog. Now, I’m exploring a new chapter, having jumped aboard my partner’s Hallberg Rassy Rasmus with Boga and his Australian Kelpie, Jango. In this episode, we sail Arabella over to the clear, blue waters of the Dry Tortugas National Park, 70 miles west of Key West. Starting from the Ten Thousand Islands, we hit Key West for provisions, hot showers, and to pick up the parts we need to get our auto helm installed. It was a whirlwind stop—less than 24 hours, and it was time to get going for an overnight sail to the Dry Tortugas. The sail to the Dry Tortugas was magnificent, with a steady 10–15 knots pushing us right to the country’s least-visited national park. As we approached Fort Jefferson, we were grateful to get hailed on the radio by a fan with some helpful information about anchoring in the Dry Tortugas. In the Dry Tortugas, the sound of nesting brown and black noddies, terns, and migrating Magnificent Frigate birds made for some soothing white noise, while the hermit crabs on land gave Robin a real delight. We anchored on the west side of Fort Jefferson, where we had plenty of privacy and easy access to shore. The snorkeling in the Dry Tortugas was second to none. First, we took Victoria over to Bird Key for some creative snorkeling—with such a strong current, we decided to stay tethered to the tender while floating the current on a paddleboard. Then we spent time over at Loggerhead Key snorkeling Africa Reef, which was abundant with marine life. We saw barracuda, about a million tropical fish, neon-colored coral, and even a spiny Florida lobster! With shifting winds, we decided to move the boat over to the east side of Fort Jefferson, where the anchorage was much more lively. Seaplanes come and go, the ferry arrives like clockwork, and… Goliath Groupers visit Arabella with regularity. The sunsets on the Dry Tortugas were so mesmerizing, that even Akiva took to lying on the side deck to take them in ;-) Being in such clear, clean water makes it a perfect time to get our Spectra water maker back online. The water maker has been offline since we were docked in Harwichport last winter. There are no resources in the Dry Tortugas—no water, food, or fuel—so getting the water maker back online allowed us to extend our stay in this tropical paradise, without worrying about staying hydrated. Another big project that we’ve been stuck on is the auto-helm. We tried to get this installed back in Boothbay before heading south for the winter, but didn’t have the right parts. While it was discouraging to realize that we STILL didn’t have what we needed to get the auto helm installed…we DID come up with a plan, and it’s a good one that requires a little help from a friend. SV Seeker, SV Seeker, SV Seeker, this is sailing vessel Arabella…come back! Stay tuned to find out how we solve our auto helm installation issue… -------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella started as a wooden boat building project in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve began the journey as an amateur wooden boat builder crafting a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and now sailing the boat—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that traditional wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project continues beyond the boat shop, as Steve and crew travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. ** NOW SOLD ** ‘Sansouci’ is a Hallberg-Rassy 41. Launched in 1977, this is a classic model from one of the most highly respected cruising brands. This is a practical and comfortable two cabin layout with master cabin aft, large saloon and two heads. Space below deck is impressive with standing head room throughout including the passage to the aft cabin. The centre cockpit is safe, well protected, and is of course a signature of the worldclass Swedish yard. The ketch rig allows for maximum flexibility and safety while the extended bow sprit allows for the large furling genoa and furling inner-jib. Notably, this is not a full teak deck yacht – a massive advantage meaning less maintenance and issues going forward while giving the yacht a clean modern deck. Much of the electronics and navigation equipment has been updated with the switchboards fully rewired. The B&G plotter was installed new in 2020. There is auto-pilot and AIS. Solar panels both mounted on the davits and on the coach roof keep the large battery bank topped up plus there is a portable generator securely stowed on deck. The RIB neatly stows on the davits. There is a tunnel bow thruster. New cockpit covers with bimini and dodger completely protect the cockpit. These were installed new in Just 2024 by one of the most well-respected marine trimmers in Sydney, Shane Beashel. This is a proper cruising yacht with encapsulated keel, skeg rudder, shaft drive engine, and a rig to match. Sansouci has been well kept and regularly slipped. She would suit those seeking a quality blue water cruising yacht crafted by probably the most respected cruising yacht brand ever, or simply a comfortable live-aboard that simply looks right. Disclaimer: YOTI offers the details of this vessel in good faith but cannot guarantee or warrant the accuracy of this information nor warrant the condition of the vessel. We are Eric, Kimberley, and Distin. We are from Alaska. We started our adventures in Alaska on our Nordhavn 55. We sold her and are now beginning our adventures on a new to us Nordhavn 50. Welcome to the final episode of our 2024 Bahamas trip! (Sorry! I guess I messed up the volume so it needs to be turned up…). In our last episode in the Bahamas, we’re soaking it all in. We snorkel through Thunderball Grotto, check out Staniel Cay, and join in a Nordhavn Lasagne. Then we check out the sunken piano and mermaid statute, cruise around a quiet lagoon, and hang out on a deserted beach. After these last days of island vibes, we make a quick run back to the states. It’s the perfect ending to an unforgettable trip. If you’re dreaming of living on board a Nordhavn or buying a Nordhavn for bluewater cruising, this video offers a firsthand look at the challenges and rewards of long-term boat life. We’ll take you behind the scenes to see how we manage real-life boating situations???from maintenance issues to steering failures—and offer tips for anyone planning to live aboard or buy a Nordhavn. Thanks for coming along with us on this Bahamas journey – hope you enjoyed the video. These are our adventures on our Nordhavn. We sailed from Brisbane to Wide Bay Bar at Fraser Island and because of the considerable challenges and criteria to be met before you attempt to cross the bar, we planned this passage perhaps more carefully than we would normally do. The great thing is that we take you through the whole process which you will find either entertaining, useful for your own passage planning or you may even plan to cross Wide Bay Bar yourself. We share our favourite apps thst we use for passage planning including Predict Wind, NoForeignland and Navionics. #predictwind Music in this video deserves a Thanks to : Endless Motion Music I use: Bensound License code: L9THPS8PYZROENFJ Jazzy Frenchy Music: https://www.bensound.com License code: ECWCHPNTTY7BVPES Angels By My Side Royalty Free Music: https://www.bensound.com License code: LXNDXRLA6BNHQILU Go To PATREON ...and .... This 1997 Albin fishing boat, “Morningstar V”, is one rugged sport fisher that ideally doubles as a family cruiser. The roomy cabin located in the bow sleeps four in two berths. It has a large galley and dinette so you can comfortably enjoy your catch. The roomy head is very accommodating with a separate shower stall. She has wide side decks, a half-tower for cruising with great visibility, and a massive cockpit which is great for fighting big fish or for entertaining guests. Over 200 of these vessels were built from 1995 to 2007. They are very well-regarded for their stability and performance while under way, so you will have peace of mind while other boaters are heading for safe harbor. Morningstar V is a pristine, well- maintained, Tournament Express vessel. This boat appears virtually new and shows her owners’ pride throughout. Fully-loaded with all the gear you need, this Albin is turn-key for fishing or cruising. You will appreciate the enclosed wheelhouse because of comfortable captain’s seating and lots of solid handholds for moving about while in rough seas. Other wheelhouse amenities include A/C, fridge, wet bar, chopping board, fishing tackle and storage drawers. This is a very practical boat because the cockpit features a flip up transom bench seat, a large fish box, sliding transom door, rod storage, bait well and wash down. She is also equipped with shore power and a generator. Set up for extended cruising with the 5 kw Northern lights genset, propane stovetop , oven, Dickson cockpit BBQ, aluminum RIB with lightweight Yamaha kicker, Scotty depthmaster downriggers, upper and lower helm, enclosed head with walk-in shower, diesel furnace, 30 amp shore power, spacious cockpit, upper and lower helms. The twin GM 6.5L diesel engines have only 1077 hours and are immaculate, the owner is overkill on his preventative maintenance. Ray C120 GPS, Furuno radar, Furuno fish finder, Simrad Robertson auto pilot, Icom M504 DSC VHF radio, KVH Azimuth 1000 digital compass, Lewmar loud hailer, Clarion CVMDFS AM/FMCD radio sound system, Wilson cellular boost antenna, ZF electronic engine controls , trolling valves, AFI 3 speed pantographic wipers, Jabsco remote search light, 2 group D start , 2 x 6V house batteries, Xantrex 4A truecharge battery charger, pro mariner galvanic isolator, LED nav and cockpit lights, whale 600GPH manual bilge pump, cockpit washdown, 3 x 100 gal fuel tanks, Lewmar windlass, chain counter, 300′ chain, 200′ rode, 44lb plow anchor, spare anchor. Ask about moorage at Schooner Cove. The owner has taken meticulous care of this rare Albin 31 Tournament. Ask about how to arrange a sea trial today.

We are in beautiful Tahiti prepping for Daniel's parents coming to visit. We move to the airport anchorage and visit Papeete. We find a thimble for Jessa's collection, boat parts, provisions and see the closing parade for the Olympics. We finally get the toilet back working just in time for my in-laws arrival! Right after Daniel's parents arrive, a boat drags anchor right beside us. Daniel and Jack drop the dinghy to see what they can do to help. Dan hops on board, moves the dragging boat and gets the anchor reset. We move to beautiful Moorea and see the sharks and stingrays and visit a restaurant from the book "1000 Places to See Before you Die." Thank you for watching and subscribing.

Hello folks! This week on our liveaboard sailing vlog we finally encounter the sights and sounds of spring! Birds chirping, flowers blooming, and the.. lovely thunk of Ben's head against the mast as he's forced to go up the mast mid-voyage? Is this a classic spring activity for anyone else? Just us? Well certainly the first sail of the season was bound to come with a few problems to work out! We've been nestled away in our little corner of the marina all winter long, sitting nicely while mussels and barnacles made their home on our hull. But unfortunately for them, as the weather turns gentle and the days get longer, we cannot sit idly. They've got to come off. We've got places to be! But the question is, which places? Thanks for hanging out with us while we decide which direction to go. And by 'decide', I mean... stew in our indecision. But at least we were accompanied by our dear friend @SailingAlanouwoly , who lives and travels aboard her own 28 foot sailboat! If you've been here all winter, we appreciate you sticking it out with us as we did a boat load (hahahaha) of boat maintenance. To reward your valor and bravery, we shall present you with fun and sunshine and travels from this day forward! Maybe even the occasional dolphin if we're lucky! And if you're new here, welcome aboard :) you've arrived just in time. If you're really enjoying our videos and would like to buy us a coffee, you can do so at the link below! We usually both go for a nice classic black coffee, in case you wanted to visualize the beverage you're bestowing upon us. :) Thank you for your support! https://buymeacoffee.com/theincompetentcrew On the off chance you've made it all the way down here and you're not subscribed, go ahead and do that. Or if you've only made it this far out of spite, you can leave a hate comment instead!

After sailing over from mainland Spain, we’re now sailing the Balearic Islands, soaking up the beauty of nature and enjoying a bit of solitude at anchor at this unplanned surprise stop over on a tiny island. In this episode, I take you along for a slow, reflective morning filled with nature bliss, yoga, and some much-needed me-time. These quiet, grounding moments are a huge part of why I love this liveaboard sailing lifestyle. 00:00 Morning Yoga on Paradise Islands in the Balearic Islands 03:35 Solo Expedition on this magical island 05:25 Why it's so important to have me-time 07:22 What happened to our in-boom furling system on our Hallberg Rassy 35 09:15 Fixing our in-boom furling system on our Hallberg Rassy 35 But—as always—boat life also comes with the other kind of surprises...the things that break on the boat ;). After noticing some movement in the boom during our passage, we discover several loose or missing screws in our in-boom furling system. What starts as a quick fix quickly turns into a full sailboat rigging repair, with Floh removing and reattaching the boom using a lot of creativity, tools, and Loctite. If you’re curious about the realities of full-time cruising and the surprises that come with it, from peaceful mornings in beautiful places to the constant maintenance that comes with life on a sailboat, this episode offers a little bit of both. We’re also sailing with our two dogs, balancing life as a couple on board while finding our rhythm in new places. In this week’s episode, we say goodbye to Sanibel Island and the beautiful “Ding” Darling Wilderness, and we set sail for Florida’s Ten Thousand Islands, an archipelago just north of and adjacent to the Everglades. It felt great to raise the sails after so much motoring. We enjoyed a lively, adventurous sail for the full 70-mile journey south, and even got a surprise burst of wind that carried us right into the Panther Key anchorage at the end of the day. Arabella isn’t the only wooden sailboat we have access to—our tender, Victoria, also has a sail rig…so we sailed her over to Dismal Key in search of some ancient Calusa shell mounds. It took us some time to find a spot where we could safely get to shore, but we eventually found a faint trail that led us up past an old shelter and provided a path through the harsh island environment. No sign of rattlesnakes, fortunately! From Dismal Key, we sailed Victoria to a few private white sand beaches, and to a sandbar for Akiva’s running and playing pleasure ;-) Eventually, the time was ripe to break out the saltwater fly rod and try our hand at catching a few fish. We have no idea what they were, but we caught-and-released a few small fish. Sailing to the Ten Thousand Islands was a unique experience, and we enjoyed a few days of total relaxation in a breathtaking location. 10 out of 10 would recommend. -------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella started as a wooden boat building project in Granby, Massachusetts. Demystify boat diesel engines with this easy-to-understand guide from James at Sailing Virgins! Filmed at the beautiful Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbor in the BVI, this tutorial breaks down intimidating marine engines into just four simple fluid systems that any sailor can understand. Learn about the essential systems that keep your engine running smoothly: 1. The water cooling system (how it flows and why the impeller is crucial) 2. Diesel fuel system (why clean fuel matters and how separators work) 3. Oil system (the "blood" of your engine and the Goldilocks principle) 4. Air intake (why your engine needs to breathe properly) Plus, discover how to diagnose engine problems by smoke color – white, black, blue, or gray smoke all tell a different story about what might be wrong with your engine. IN THIS VIDEO: We didn’t want to wait for Balance to install our new freezer—so we did it ourselves! 💪 But hindsight is 20/20… we really should’ve flipped the fan direction when we had the old freezer out. It would’ve been so easy! This week is full of boat life randomness in the best way: 🍽️ Hidden treasure in the sliding door? Dennis finds a taco seasoning packet—guess what’s for dinner?! 🐶 Ann shows why grooming Schatzi in minimal clothing is the way to go (hello, ocean rinse!) ✂️ Dennis joins the grooming party with some spontaneous manscaping 🚗 We explore the other side of Grenada with Schatzi—and get creative to keep her cool 🧅 Ann shares a surprisingly delicious healthy snack: baked onions with parmesan—YUM. ⛵ Learn how to make a Flemish eye with a zip tie for sheet ends that pass through a clutch ⚡ Concerned viewers flagged potential stray current—Ann checks with a multimeter and finds no current. Let us know if you think more testing is needed! Plus, a sweet night out with friends Vean & Jessica. Life afloat keeps us guessing, learning, and laughing. CURRENT LOCATION: https://forecast.predictwind.com/tracking/display/SV-GTFO/ ABOUT OUR CATAMARAN: We love our new Balance 482 - it's a perfect size for a cruising couple to handle and is a great "balance" of performance and comfort. One of our favorite features is the excellent ventilation since we mostly live as "hookers" (aka at anchor) where the boat automatically turns into the wind so we stay cool and we don't need to battle mold. We also have starlink for easy off-grid life. Our 2400 watt solar panel array also means we rarely need to run an engine to charge our batteries. ABOUT US: We saved for a our future boat, sold everything that we owned, and shipped the rest in a container to Cape Town, South Africa. We then flew there and explored South Africa by way of a safari and touring Cape Town before moving aboard our boat. We then sailed to Saint Helena, Ascension Island, Fernando de Naronha (Brazil), Martinique, Sint Maarten (Dutch and French side), the US Virgin Islands (Saint Croix, Saint John, and Saint Thomas), the British Virgin Islands (Anegada, Norman Island, Jost van Dyke, and Anegada), The Bahamas (Inagua, Crooked Island, Long Island, George Town, Staniel Cay, the Exumas, and Eleuthera). We then sailed back to the United States, making landfall in Cape Canaveral, Florida. From there our destinations are endless! Both Dennis and Ann grew up military brats with Army fathers. Dennis (the Colonel) served 30 years in the US Army and his retirement pension helped us retire in our 50s. Ann (the ship's Captain) wrote Test Automation in Python and Java. Dennis and Ann met on Match.com where Ann had in her profile "Do you want to sail the world with me?" Ann easily brought Dennis into sailing, and he loved the GTFOplan of retiring early and sailing the world. After many years of saving, living on one income but earning two, and cutting back on everything possible, they saved enough to buy a Balance 482. Follow them as they get real about boat life and all the hassles of buying a new boat because we all know N.E.W. means Not Everything Works. It’s been a crazy night on Nutshell with massive storms, leaving us questioning if this is all worth it. We continue patching and filling the soft spots in the deck. Progress is steady, but every time we think we’ve fixed them all, another one appears. After yet another rough night, we find ourselves doubting the boating life. Thanks for watching. A quick tutorial on how to go hove-to (heaving to) in a sailboat. Heaving to is an important technique for stopping and temporarily "parking" a sailboat--with just a bit of drift to leeward. Heaving to can be used to ride out a storm, tuck in a reef, take a lunch break, repair something that's broken, or whenever you need to temporarily stop sailing the boat. The proper heaving to technique involves backwinding the headsail, tacking the bow through the wind, then slowing the boat by sailing into the wind with the headsail backwinded and bleeding off the momentum of the boat, and then tying off the tiller to counteract the backwinded headsail once steering control is lost. The boat will quickly stabilize in the hove-to position.
