Perfect for extended stays. Guest Stateroom (forward): Over/under berths or V-berths with private head access, ideal for guests or family. Flybridge & Decks: Spacious flybridge with plenty of seating and a second helm. Wide, walk-around side decks and a covered aft deck perfect for entertaining or relaxing. Heads: Two private heads (fore and aft) with showers, offering convenience for multiple guests or liveaboard use. 🌟 Benefits Economical Cruising: With a fuel burn rate of ~1.5 mpg (single engine) or efficient twin Perkins engines, this trawler is budget-friendly for long-range cruising. Stability & Handling: The semi-displacement hull and wide beam provide excellent stability in moderate seas, making it ideal for coastal cruising in areas like the Pacific Northwest or the Great Loop. Versatile Use: Perfect for overnight cruising, day trips, or as a comfortable liveaboard with its spacious interior and practical layout. Durable Construction: Built by Chung Hwa Boats in Taiwan, the heavily laid-up fiberglass hull ensures durability, though check for window leaks and deck maintenance. Low Maintenance Options: Many models have replaced teak decks with fiberglass for reduced upkeep, and features like LED lighting and updated windows (e.g., Diamond Seaglaze) enhance longevity. Great Loop Capable: With a shallow draft and robust systems, this trawler is well-suited for extended adventures like the Great Loop. Classic Appeal: The teak interior and exterior brightwork give it a timeless, head-turning aesthetic, perfect for those who love traditional trawler styling. ⚠️ Maintenance Tips Inspect for window leaks, a common issue with Taiwanese trawlers, to prevent cabin damage. Check the keel and hull for delamination or blistering, especially if the boat has grounded. Ensure the propeller is balanced to avoid vibrations and verify engine maintenance records for the reliable Lehman or Perkins engines.
We’re now just 8 weeks away from moving aboard our sailboat full-time as part of our liveaboard sailing adventure around the world! In this episode, we share an exciting (and slightly overwhelming) update on where we are with the downsizing process — selling, donating, and letting go of years of land-based possessions to embrace the simplicity and freedom of life on the water. If you’ve ever dreamed of living on a sailboat, travelling the world by wind power, or taking the leap into the cruising lifestyle, this episode gives you an honest, behind-the-scenes look at the big transition from land to sea. We talk about what’s been easy, what’s been hard, and what we’re learning along the way as we prepare to call our sailboat “home.” We’re also just 4 weeks away from a major haul out — when our boat will be lifted from the water for essential maintenance and preparation for our life of sailing around the world. This haul out is crucial for making sure our vessel is seaworthy, safe, and ready for offshore cruising. From bottom paint to mechanical checks, this is where the real work happens before the fun begins! In this video, you’ll see: - Our downsizing tips for moving onto a sailboat - What to expect in a sailboat haul out - How we’re preparing for the liveaboard lifestyle - The emotional side of letting go of “stuff” for a life of adventure Whether you’re a beginner sailor, a seasoned bluewater cruiser, or someone dreaming of escaping the 9-to-5 to travel the world by sailboat, you’ll find inspiration, practical advice, and a real-world look at what it takes to prepare for full-time cruising. Join us as we get ready for this exciting new chapter — chasing horizons, finding new anchorages, and embracing the freedom of the liveaboard lifestyle. Subscribe and follow our journey as we countdown to launch day and start our adventure of sailing around the world. A sail that stretched 700 nautical miles from Townsville in Far North Queensland Australia to Moreton Bay in Brisbane Queensland. We are now preparing to move onboard and to sail around the world. Join us to see the challenges as we continue to learn to sail, prepare our boat and make changes so our boat feels like a home. We are moving onboard in just a few weeks so our sailing dream is getting closer and closer. This week, with the woods ban still in place, we decide to hightail it to Newfoundland via the Bras d’Or Lakes. We’re itching to get climbing, hiking and biking again! Before we start sailing north, I took the time to do something that’s been on my to-do list for a while: calibrate our fuel dipstick. I used our Keenan Filters fuel filter to move all of our diesel into one tank, so we can use the empty tank for calibration. Leaving Terence Bay was a little emotional. It’s a bummer we didn’t get to explore all that this region has to offer, but it’s time to keep moseying to where the mountains meet the ocean (and where we can actually climb those mountains). Aboard for the run from Terence Bay to St. Peter’s is Kyle, who you might remember from when we installed our water systems during the last crazy year of the build. The sail to St. Peters—the gateway to the Bras d’Or Lakes—was full of variety and spice: we saw everything from low winds that forced us to run the engine, to 25 knot winds that put Arabella on a wild heel as she crashed through the waves. We arrived at the St. Peter’s Lock around midnight. It’s never our favorite to arrive in a new harbor at dark, but that’s how it goes with sailing sometimes. You can’t always pick your timing… At St. Peter’s, Robin meets us with the truck and jumps on board as we navigate the lock and pick up a mooring at the Lions Club Marina. We have certainly entered a different biosphere—one that is much less harsh (and much less foggy) than the cold, open North Atlantic. After a few days on a mooring, we decide to start moseying through the Bras d’Ors, heading to Macnabs Cove, where Akiva will get to have his very own island to explore. I also decide that cruising the Bras d’Or Lakes would be a good opportunity for Robin to “single hand” Arabella, so she’ll be running the show as we bump around the lakes. Past little baby lighthouses, we drop anchor in Macnabs and promptly run Akiva over to his island. Anchored in a beautiful corner of the Bras d’Or Lakes, I take the opportunity to replace and improve the painter line on our hand-built wooden dinghy, Victoria. Waking up to a missing dinghy is NOT a good time, as we’ve learned from experience. I have an idea that will add some shock absorbency to the system, which will increase the longevity of the painter line and reduce the amount of stress on the attachment point. I’m glad to have my pattern maker’s vise to help me bring my idea to fruition. Tune in next week, as we continue cruising the Bras d’Or Lakes, making way towards Newfoundland! -------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella started as a wooden boat building project in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve began the journey as an amateur wooden boat builder crafting a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and now sailing the boat—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that traditional wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project continues beyond the boat shop, as Steve and crew travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. -------------------------- If you are interested in supporting/helping here are a few ways: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/how-to-help Acorn to Arabella's wishlist: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/wishlistpriority TotalBoat supports A2A! Our boat refit that includes a conversion to all electric needs a lot of solar panels. We are fitting four Victron 175watt panels to the guardrails (2 per side). So we have designed and built custom support arms that attach to our carbon fibre guardrails allowing the panels to swivel. All made with low cost materials. We are now living aboard full-time and want to get off-grid as soon as possible so we don't have to pay for boatyard electricity. We have a frequently updated blog at https://sustainablesailing.net with membership options and a weekly newsletter at £2 per month for Early Bird Supporters. Our free Sustainable Sailing book is at: https://sustainablesailing.codeberg.p... Or visit our shop at https://sustainablesailing.teemill.com/ for great hoodies, t-shirts and bags. When we bought Vida in August 2019 she was in a very tired and damp condition with all original equipment and fittings (much of it not working). We have removed all the gas, diesel and paraffin equipment, and are installing all-electric (motor, cooking etc). Sailing my 2010 Precision 18 sailboat on a beautiful evening in ideal winds on a high-altitude (8,601ft) Rocky Mountain lake. This episode features late summer sailing on the last Wednesday of August. Late summer and early fall is the best time to sail in Colorado, because there are fewer afternoon thunderstorms and calmer winds. This time of year is when I start sailing from sunrise to sunset and get full 12-hour days on the lake. And since it's a weekday, I have the lake all to myself. The episode features plenty of natural beauty, mountain views, and wind and water sounds. Maintenance work continues on Trade Runner here at Helena Marina. The yard workers help me out with the sanding and do a mint job, so happy with that! I learn that I need to start the days early as each afternoon the squalls roll through and dump tons of water. I cross things off the job-list though and before you know it the boat is ready to splash again. But the real game-changer comes when we stumble upon a successful, affordable, and easy-to-make formula to keep our spaces completely free of mold. #mildew #boatprojects #tahiti #accumulator Here is the article for the mildew test by Practical Sailor: https://www.practical-sailor.com/blog/homemade-mildew-preventers-that-really-work-2 NEW TO OUR CHANNEL? We are Eileen and Brown Councill. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we had very NO sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia. So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. We are so glad you have decided to join us, and we hope that you will find our story so compelling that it will inspire you to chase your dreams too! As a viewer, we consider you to be part of our family and look forward to getting to know you. Don't hesitate to comment on our videos and ask questions. We will do our best to answer every correspondence! All we ask is that you have patience with us as we work really hard to improve our camera/video techniques and ability to tell a story. Hopefully, you will be as BLOWN AWAY from watching, as we are in experiencing and producing our adventures! HOW CAN YOU SUPPORT US? Welcome back to Sailing Seabird! We’re restoring our abandoned Gulfstar 41 sailboat that we bought for just one euro. This week is a huge milestone — after years of work, we’re finally getting the mast ready to step. We treat it with a special chemical, sand it down, and give it a fresh coat of paint so it’s strong, protected, and ready to go back on the boat. Every bit of progress gets us closer to sailing again, and today we’re one step away from raising the mast for the first time in 15 years. 🌊 *Join our journey* as we restore Seabird from an abandoned sailboat to a home on the sea! We pick up anchor early in the morning in Fuerteventura and set sail across the Atlantic Ocean toward Gran Canaria. It turns into a long but beautiful day sail, with steady winds and a rolling two-meter swell carrying us all the way. As we approach the busy shipping lanes, ferries and cargo ships crisscross our path before we finally arrive in the north of Gran Canaria, home to one of the most protected anchorages in the Canary Islands. We are full-time boat people, currently sailing a Hallberg Rassy Rasmus on a journey that has already taken us from the Mediterranean, along the coast of Morocco, and now through the Canary Islands as we continue island hopping and planning new adventures further south. This channel is for anyone dreaming of living on a sailboat, curious about daily life sailing, or drawn to alternative lifestyles like living on the water. Whether you’re interested in sailing with dogs, the realities of the cruising lifestyle, or simply looking for inspiring sailing journeys and remote sailing destinations, this episode offers a glimpse into what sail life is really about. Facing the challenges of solo sailing as a female sailor, I navigated the highs and lows of single-handed sailing while tackling DIY boat repair projects, from engine fixes to full boat refits on a budget. My life aboard was a mix of adventure and reflection, shaping an independent woman’s story of resilience, personal growth, and embracing the sailing lifestyle. Along the way, I became an ocean conservation activist with In Mocean, stumbled across my dog Boga, and discovered the joys and challenges of sailing with a dog. Now, I’m exploring a new chapter, having jumped aboard my partner’s Hallberg Rassy Rasmus with Boga and his Australian Kelpie, Jango. Together, we face the unique dynamics and challenges of sailing as a couple, balancing off-grid life, sustainable sailing, and the demands of long-term cruising. This week, we’re still anchored in Terence Bay, Nova Scotia…and the ban on the outdoors is still in effect. Never in a million years did we ever expect to be wishing for rain in order to go rock climbing, hiking, and mountain biking. Despite our disappointment, we decide to make the best of it. The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic was a highly recommended attraction, so we spent a day exploring their exhibits. We started with a tour of the CSS Acadia, which was launched in 1913 as a hydrographic survey vessel, and retired in 1969—the last steam-powered Canadian service vessel still afloat. Everything on deck is massive—much bigger than anything on Arabella. After a tour of the CSS Acadia, we had to pop in and check out the kid’s boat building workshop. In the museum, we learned so much about Joshua Slocum, the first person to single-hand a sailboat solo around the world, and other sailing legends. Seeing an array of wooden sailboats—some built in as early as 1890—inspires Steve’s vision for another potential build in the future…maybe? But first, we need to finish building the one we’re currently living on… Without the temptation to go climbing, it’s a little easier to find the motivation to get boat projects done. One of the small tasks I’ve been wanting to do is put a small ceiling in behind the workbench, to prevent objects from falling behind it and into the bilge. I picked up two 1/4” sheets of red oak plywood from the local hardware store to get the job done. Measure once. Measure twice. Mark it up. Then cut… Once I get the ceiling nice and snug behind the workbench, I seal the planking, house frames, and plywood with TotalBoat’s Danish Teak Sealer, which is more of an oil than a varnish. The red oak doesn’t check all of our boxes—and we hate covering up the beautiful frames and planking—so I’ll likely find a better solution in the future. For now, though, this gets the job done. Now that boat work is out of the way, it’s time to go play on our paddleboards. A local fisherman gave us some information about a “secret” beach that is only accessible by small boat, so we decide to go check it out. The water in the cove was crystal clear, with the vibrant colors of kelp, seaweed, and small colorful stones providing plenty of optical stimulation. We had the whole beach to ourselves. The consensus is that we love Nova Scotia…but we need to keep moving to where we can get back into the woods. Blow Me Down cliff isn’t gonna climb itself next summer, and we need to get to training ;-) -------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella started as a wooden boat building project in Granby, Massachusetts. Hey! We’re Ruth and Andrew 👋🏼 Earlier this year, after years of dreaming, we left our family, friends and lives in Edinburgh, Scotland, behind as we set off to chase our shared dream of sailing the world. In April, we bought our 11m catamaran, Rúna, which we now call home as we live, work, sail and adventure full-time. Join us as we explore the Mediterranean and get to grips with life at sea 🏝️ In this week’s episode, we’re trying to give you a real glimpse into what life looks like living on a catamaran in the Med! From island anchorages and secret underwater adventures, to running from storms and tackling boat maintenance, it’s all part of the reality of sailing full-time in the Mediterranean ⛵️✨ We leave mainland France behind and head for island life, exploring the stunning Îles d'Hyères, swimming in crystal clear waters, hiking rugged landscapes, and even anchoring in a nudist resort by accident (yes… that was unexpected 😅). We try out some new filming gear to take you along as we sail Rúna in strong winds! And we discover Europe’s very first marine national park at Port-Cros, where we search for a hidden underwater trail. And when the thunderstorm rolls in, Ruth gets very wet as she sails us back to the mainland to ride it out in a protected bay. This is a typical week living on a sailing boat in the Mediterranean! Sailing: The Dream... and the Reality They say sailing is just doing boat maintenance in exotic locations—and honestly, that’s not far off. We always thought the stunning views and remote anchorages would balance out the breakdowns and fixes. But sometimes, it’s just frustrating. You can’t carry every spare part, and when something breaks (and it will), it usually happens in the most inconvenient spot, at the worst time. Join us this week as we tackle another unexpected issue and share the real side of cruising life—not just the sunsets and sea turtles, but the grit, the problem-solving, and yes, the occasional meltdown.

Penobscot Bay Maine best sailing anchorages exceeded our expectations! Maine boasts more than 4,600 islands, each with its own mystery, its own story. The question was which ones we’d have time to explore. With the help of the Cruising Club of America website and the Waterway Guide, we set our course. Rockland Hurricane Island Vinalhaven Pulpit Island The Barreds TIMELINE: 0:00 Introduction 0:30 Rockland Maine - Marina, Primo, Claws, Landings, Hamilton Marine 2:35 Hurricane Island Maine - Sea Scallop Research Farming, Granite Company Trails 6:47 Vinalhaven & Pulpit Island Maine - tranquility & lobsters! 10:10 Barred Islands Preserve Maine Rockland, called the biggest little city in Penobscot Bay, was a wonderful place to hide from the rain and fog. There were plenty of spots in the anchorage, but we took advantage of the marina slip we could get to wash the boat and make it easier to spend a little time ashore. https://guides.cruisingclub.org/harbor/rockland/ With twelve-foot tides pulling the shoreline back and forth, even stepping ashore felt like an adventure. For dinner we had quite the 5 star experience at Primo, a farm to table restaurant where they grow all the food and livestock with their staff of 60. Their 5 acre compound includes the restaurant, 2 greenhouses, over 200 laying chickens, 150 broiler chickens, 5 ducks, 15 pigs and 3 acres of vegetables. https://www.primorestaurant.com/ The next night, Landings offered laid-back dining with waves lapping just below us. " http://www.thelandingsrestaurant.com/ Last but not least, And finally — Claws. The holy grail of lobster & seafood shacks. Fresh. Locally sourced. Pure Maine Fun. https://clawsrocklandmaine.com/ Strolling through town was alive with energy. And of course, we made several trips to the Hamilton Marine store, for a cornucopia of boating supplies. https://hamiltonmarine.com/ Next up: Hurricane Island, where we toured the scallop experimental research facility, and hiked the islands historic trails. Hurricane Island was formerly the site of a Granite Company supporting hundreds of residents, then in the 1960s, an Outward Bound School, and now home to Hurricane Island Center for Science and Leadership, who conduct marine and island ecology summer courses and research. The breathtaking island trails led to rock ledges, granite cliffs, old settlement housing and panoramic views - even in the fog. Pick up a Maine Island Trail Association guide at the island’s north end facility. https://mita.org/trail/ https://guides.cruisingclub.org/harbor/hurricane-island/ On Vinalhaven and Pulpit Islands, we enjoyed wonderful Maine scenery, tranquility and of course lobsters. Long Cove is the safest anchorage, but you can use the day anchorages to explore these large islands. The Barred Islands Preserve were next, sandwiched in between Butter Island and Great Spruce Island. These gorgeous tiny islands were interesting to explore by dinghy, only occasionally seeing a summer house now and then - often at the highest point on the island for the most expansive views. “Pristine, private with a gentle sea breeze wafting through the anchorage, these islands are co-managed with the Nature Conservancy” https://guides.cruisingclub.org/harbor/barred-islands/ Although many people continue “down east” up to Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island, we did not. With the extensive fog and rain in 2023, the upcoming September wedding of my son, and plenty of places still to see on our journey south, we decided to head back. Our Next stops were Matinicus and Monhegan Islands. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCssGSdO6MiHtsHl7qdKlvmA https://www.youtube.com/channel/waterwayguide3670 https://www.youtube.com/channel/hurricane_island https://www.youtube.com/channel/maineislandtrail Audiio - KapKapMoode - Whispers-of-Change Audiio - James Spaite - Riverside - LadiesTobacco Audiio - Tambala - Extra Mild Cheddar Audiio - Daniel Jorgensen - On Sounded Sea - Above Us LINKS: SUBSCRIBE TO CHANNEL: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjfh_pM48xnJ7dr4jTvt8cw?sub_confirmation=1 SUBSCRIBE TO EMAIL NEWSLETTER: https://bluedotvoyages.com/contact-us/ READ SAILING LOGS ON OUR WEB SITE: https://bluedotvoyages.com FACEBOOK: https://facebook.com/bluedotvoyages.sailingpilar INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/bluedotvoyages.sailingpilar COMPLETE PLAYLIST: SAILING & CRUISING VIDEOS https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLz8Z8h1MloaPq2o05r6wnJqaqyeABUKiu CATAMARAN MAINTENANCE VIDEOS: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLz8Z8h1MloaOcpGajnaH0DPm1U0otTJtc Blue Dot Voyages is a Sailing Adventure Company. We are still struggling with depth issues and excessive weeds both on and below the surface. We managed to get out of the slip for a nice sail after dodging floating and submerged mats of weeds but not without issues. We towed a large patch of weeds out of the harbor. Once we cleared the channel we had to back down to clear the weed patch from the keel and rudder. But we did make it out and had an enjoyable day on the water. We hope you enjoy the video.
