Emirates Team New Zealand continued its relentless commissioning and learning process in the world’s first AC40 on a light-weather day where the team needed a quick chase-boat tow to get on the foils with the breeze dropping below the 8-knot mark for solo flight. In summary afterwards, Ray Davies, the AC ‘coach of coaches’ was pleased with the day’s work: Section 41. Reconnaissance a) As a campaign cost reduction measure, COR/D has mutually agreed to cooperatively implement a centralised reconnaissance programme for all teams for the reconnaissance of all Competitors’ AC75 Yachts, AC40 Yachts and LEQ12 yachts including both on-land and on-water imagery (the “Joint Recon Programme”). b) Each team is assigned a two-person Recon Unit to follow their every on-water move, but it's not that simple. The cameras are supplied and identical for all Recon Units. Drones are not allowed, and they can't get that close, plus following a boat and keeping a camera steady at 45 knots isn't that easy to begin with. c) A three minute interview follows each on water day, and teams must answer the Recon Unit's questions while trying not to give too much away. It's a raw, unedited view of the never before seen behind-the-scenes development of a team and their boat to win the oldest trophy in international sports. #AC37Recon #AmericasCup #Barcelona2024
The Chaparral 250 OSX’s mission is to be a day boat for an active family. She has versatile seating with convertible backrests and deep passenger areas thanks to her “raised beltline” design, which makes the boat safer and dryer. A private head can be optioned with an electric toilet, which the family will appreciate. A - regola II/2 in vigore. It’s a lengthy process to commission a totally new class of boat and the team put in another solid three-hour session, starting on the J2 jib before switching up to the big J1 and then as the breeze came in, reduced the drag and went for the J3 to hit the highest speeds of the day. Andy Maloney talks AC40 and ripping around Rangitoto Island at speeds touching “high 30’s” as the team opted for what looked like maximum rake on the mast as they tested out both the settings on the AC40 and different ‘modes’ – sailing higher to the wind and exploring VMG gybing angles downwind. *This video is meant to start an intelligent conversation about where we get our food from. And to show a new perspective on what's possible, from someone who is actively living it.* For more than a decade I've enjoyed sustainably harvesting my food from the ocean through spearfishing. Something that connects me to the ocean, as well as feeds me. But many people out there hate this zero by-catch fishing method for emotional reasons. This video is for them! Meant to help inform those who think they're morally superior for shopping at a grocery store. Rather than harvesting & returning directly to nature. Compared to someone who shops at a grocery store. My food fresh from the ocean requires: -No packaging(plastic, paper, cardboard, etc.) -No long distance transportation(Semi trucks driving across the country.) -No waste from expiring on the shelf(Caught and consumed immediately.) -No added preservatives or hormones(No need it's fresh!) -I'm not taking away their natural living space(All farmland used to be a natural home for animals.) -Everything is used and returned back to it's natural environment quickly(That's the beauty of living on the sea.) Can you say the same things about where you get your food? I hope this video shows you new perspectives and alternate ways you might approach your own lifestyle. Thanks! . . HSL 102, the only survivor of the 100 class in the UK, was launched in 1936 and was one of the very first, fast offshore rescue boats in service with the Royal Air Force. She was one of the most technologically advanced production craft of the day, the brainchild of Hubert Scott-Paine. One of the most remarkable boats we've ever seen, its construction is amazing, and so is its pace!!! It has been a massive team effort all over, and today the Emirates Team New Zealand sailors came ashore content that the one-design commissioning phase of the world’s first AC40 is pretty much done and dusted. After a transitional day where the wind meaned at 6 knots but puffed at 10 knots allowing for flight and “ripping” it was a good session under auto-pilot that saw the team head out to Takapuna to find the most stable air. Speaking afterwards, Nathan Outteridge, who has been steering for almost all of the commissioning phase, supported by Josh Junior and Andy Maloney on the wheels with Pete Burling and Blair Tuke trimming, gave a fascinating insight into sailing the boats and how the commissioning process has gone to date. Section 41. After spearfishing the two snapper and then that epic fight for the permit. The next day I was invited to a big cookout with the Grand Lucaya Police. But first I made them all an amazing meal of poke on nori, along with sashimi. Something none of them had ever tried before. The whole even was an absolute joy! I feel like I'm part of one big Bahamian family! Such a joy, and such a great group of people! . . As confidence grows, momentum feels like it’s starting to build in the Alinghi Red Bull Racing camp as their step-by-step, methodical approach to sailing and finessing the AC75 begins to come to fruition. Today was a short afternoon session as the team wrestled with Boat Zero on compact, concise runs close to the Barcelona shoreline in a gusty 12-15 knots building breeze. It’s tricky sailing but desperately interesting to watch. Section 41. It’s early days for a campaign that has persistently and admirably overcome a myriad of issues so far but Alinghi Red Bull Racing ‘got wings’ today sailing long stints out around the bay in the autumnal light of Barcelona with lift-off achieved after days of on and off-the-water drills, checks and procedures. Returning to New Zealand from the European summer circuits, Pete Burling and Blair Tuke wasted no time in re-joining the extensive Kiwi testing programme, stepping aboard Emirates Team New Zealand’s AC40 for a blustery first taste of the most sensational boat of 2022. Nathan Outteridge who’s been steering one pod during the initial outings alongside Olympic bronze medallist Sam Meech were again onboard for an intense afternoon session having craned in at 11.30am and docked-out just an hour later with the rig set for the tow to the sailing area. Speaking about the development and the auto-pilot: Peter burling commednted “Everything’s improving right across the board. We’re still very much in the commissioning phase of this boat so everything’s getting better and better in the way people are using systems. Good gains across the board and the auto-pilot is very much part of that as well.” Section 41. Another long day on the water for Alinghi Red Bull Racing as the team goes through its paces, building increasing confidence into the sailing team as they begin to wind Boat Zero up and push ever harder. Yesterday, when the morning’s light north-westerly gave way to a straight westerly in the afternoon, the breeze came in with gusts at 20 knots, - it was the biggest sailing conditions the team had performed in, and as Niels Theuninck, member of the Power Group and a former Finn sailor said afterwards, they: “ticked off a lot of boxes.” Section 41. Nicholas Charbonnier, part of the Alinghi Red Bull Racing ‘Driving’ Group seemed pleased with the progress that the team have made this week and with a smile on his face explained why we haven’t seen foiling tacks and gybes just yet: “We’re learning the boat. We’re learning the systems. We’re learning to get the best out of our configuration. We’re not going into manoeuvres at the moment, there is no point as we still have things that we want to check.
