“It’s the first day I have ever been sailing in Sardinia with snow on the mountains, it was very cold,” was how a rather chilly Jimmy Spithill described a stunning session put in by the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli team out on the Bay of Angels in Cagliari. With snow-capped mountains as the backdrop, it was a day for the full thermals and drysuits as the team docked out at 10.30am before absolutely putting the pedal to the floor on their beautiful LEQ12 prototype. And with the wind approaching the upper ranges of 19 knot gusts but a mean of around 13 knots, the premium was on mainsail control as the Italians went in to some 55 manoeuvres throughout a thoroughly entertaining demonstration of high-speed sailing at near race pace. Section 41. Reconnaissance a) As a campaign cost reduction measure, COR/D has mutually agreed to cooperatively implement a centralised reconnaissance programme for all teams for the reconnaissance of all Competitors’ AC75 Yachts, AC40 Yachts and LEQ12 yachts including both on-land and on-water imagery (the “Joint Recon Programme”). b) Each team is assigned a two-person Recon Unit to follow their every on-water move, but it's not that simple. The cameras are supplied and identical for all Recon Units. Drones are not allowed, and they can't get that close, plus following a boat and keeping a camera steady at 45 knots isn't that easy to begin with. c) A three minute interview follows each on water day, and teams must answer the Recon Unit's questions while trying not to give too much away. It's a raw, unedited view of the never before seen behind-the-scenes development of a team and their boat to win the oldest trophy in international sports. #AC37Recon #AmericasCup #Barcelona2024

INEOS Britannia broke out their new, smaller mainsail - the one that they first displayed last week on a sail-fit just outside the harbour - for a demonstration of high-speed data gathering aboard the ‘Silver Bullet’ T6 in gusty, blustery conditions that deteriorated through the afternoon. Two baffling initial tows across the Bay of Palma at speeds just below 20 knots were explained by Bleddyn Mon, one of the team’s key cross-over links between the design and sailing teams, as: “still trying to gather some data for the designers and there's some quite specific tests that they want to do under tow.” But with the tests done, the team went for a ‘fruity’ side tow, one of the trickiest and diciest states for these boats, to get the new mainsail onboard and hoisted, complemented by the J3 sensibly as the clouds amassed ominously on the hills around them. A moment’s respect for the Alinghi Red Bull Racing shore team who were at the base well before dawn – perhaps even well before some locals had actually finished their evening – for an early morning splash of BoatZero as the mercury touched zero. But whilst the shore team shivered and the sailors dug out their warmest thermals beneath their drysuits, it was a demand of a different kind that the team would have wished for on this crisp Barcelona morning. Speaking afterwards, one of the more fascinating interviews was conducted with an Alinghi Red Bull Racing team member as Pietro Sibello took to the microphone. Remember, Sibello was an integral part of the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli set-up and although ineligible to race with the team is one of the key Sailing Team Advisers, alongside Dean Barker. When asked about what he and Dean talk about off the water, Sibello offered: “We are talking about all the areas. You know this is a new team, we know that we have a good capacity, and very good people here, but we are starting from scratch, all working together, and we have to improve as quick as we can in all the areas.” Section 41. They’re the gold standard, the Blue Riband, the benchmark by which everyone else measures themselves against, so when Emirates Team New Zealand capsize an AC40 in LEQ12 mode, the analysis and the spotlight is intense. In truth, what we saw today was what can happen even in fairly benign conditions when trim goes out of kilter and the team are caught at the crucial moment by a gust. A bear-away just as the breeze filtered in at 14 knots and in the blink of an eye, the ETNZ LEQ12 was into a dramatic nosedive and corkscrew just off the Royal Akarana Yacht Club with the rudder elevator out of the water in echoes of their previous capsize that caused extensive bow damage before Christmas 2022. This time however, with the bow beefed up, there were no catastrophic results, just red faces, but down the mine and over on its side the LEQ12 went, offering a soaking to the leeward port pod crew as the boat corkscrewed round and elicited more than likely a groan of concern from the boss, Grant Dalton, watching on in the chase boat. Blair Tuke was one of those in the wet leeward pods and summed it up saying: “The wind was sort of going anywhere between 6 and maybe 14 knots…and just hit us just as we were bearing away, and we didn’t quite adjust on the controls but yeah it reminds you that the boat’s pretty hard to sail but nice to get back up and carry on sailing after that and get a couple more laps in.” Section 41. The question most posed around the British yachting scene invariably goes: “How’s INEOS doing?” Well for the fans, after today’s performance out at the team’s winter training base in Palma, they can be pretty assured that the most comprehensive British challenge ever for the America’s Cup, is right on the money. In some respects, yes this is a sailing programme, but step back from that and right now it’s a data validation exercise. T6 is fully loaded with sensors from the bow to the stern, underwater, on the foils, on the hull to most noticeably up aloft at the mast tip with cameras capturing everything. High-tech science is the name of the game but refreshingly, Giles Scott, Head of Sailing Operations, isn’t getting too bogged down in the shinier tech being utilised and gave an insight into the sailor’s mind-set when asked just what the GPS aerial crane ‘crown’ at the masthead was: “You know what? Honestly your guess is as good as mine. Yeah, I think it's some kind of telemetry device what exactly it is, like, I don't know.” Section 41. Breeze on and Emirates Team New Zealand did what they do best – put the frighteners up the rest of the America’s Cup world. It was a magnificent display of sailing in the upper ranges today as the ‘Back Paddock’ delivered wind against tide and choppy water but for the Kiwis they pressed on “offshore as far as we could” according to helmsman Nathan Outteridge, in search of even more. They found it and then pushed to the outer limits, with Blair Tuke and Andy Maloney plying their flight control trade on the ragged edge of possibility. And as Outteridge, always immense in interview, said afterwards: “When you get to those bits where there is wind against tide you do get some good chop and we were just testing the limits on how high we can fly, how well the foil behaves at those high ride heights and like I think anybody who knows foiling knows, the less foil immersion is generally quicker. But you get a bit too high, you get too much air on the foil and the boat drops down. We’ve got a test foil on, and the one design foil, so just trying to learn a bit about those and it was a pretty good day for us.” Section 41. It was a tough and very cold day for the Alinghi Red Bull Racing team after what promised to be some fairly lively conditions as the predicted southerly airflow switched in early in the afternoon, mixing with easterly flowing waves playing havoc on the Flight Control as the breeze clocked in at 13-16 knots. With side-waves to contend with, understandably the call from the sailing directors on the chase boat was to launch the mainsail in the port and then tow north up to the Montgat area in order to find easier conditions and once there, the team hoisted the J3 and began sailing. After a tricky upwind sail with the cross-waves making life tough for all onboard, a sensor issue had crew members crowded around the base of the mast and down into the hull below decks with tools to fix. The good news was that the issue was resolved relatively quickly, however after a short blast upwind where two foiling tacks were attempted, the team called it a day and headed back to the base. Whether the issue that the sensor had picked up had returned was unclear and quite what the sensor was measuring was also something that the team kept tight-lipped about, but the base of the mast houses the mast rotation system and the hydraulics so any issue there would be a very good reason to halt sailing. Yves Detrey, a long standing member of the Swiss team and a double America’s Cup winner in both 2003 and 2007, was non-plussed about the issue saying: “It wasn't a big deal but we saw that we had a little bit of a sensor issue so we fixed that and just took a good 15 minutes to solve the problem and then we could go back into sailing… you know, we just got the tools onboard, checked it out and it was good to go, so quick fix.” Section 41. We sailed across the atlantic and came to Malta because we thought it would be a good place to have our baby. Today, we will be taking a look at the finest superyachts from Dynamiq Yachts that are currently in production. We’ll feature some of the most essential features and discuss their technical specifications as we rank each model. Established by yacht broker Sergei Dobroserdov in 2014, the Dynamiq Yacht Company has broken every “best superyacht” list conceivable on the internet. Like the 1992 USA Dream Team that dominated the Barcelona Olympics by going on a flawless run, the brand also flaunted its own dream team of engineers, naval architects, and globally-recognized designers. With this incredible lineup and sharing the goal of highly stylish and easy-to-personalize models, the dream superyacht was set to sail. They debuted with the release of the 39-meter Jetsetter in the Monaco Yacht Show in 2016, and are now undoubtedly cruising towards a path of superyacht superiority in the watercraft industry. ⛵️ Leave a LIKE, write a COMMENT, and SHARE this video if you enjoyed it! ⛵️ SUBSCRIBE and click the notification BELL to be updated with new episodes! Palma has been a tricky place this week for the INEOS Britannia team who have been forced to sit shoreside as all manner of stormy weather, hail included, has filtered across the Balearics. Xavi Fernandez, Performance Coach summed it up succinctly and correctly in two words: “Tricky Day” but the predicted weather break came today although it was a nightmare for the team’s forecasters and meteorologists as the southerly that filtered in overnight left a lumpy two metre swell that, along with the wind just dropped and dropped.

Episode info: Ep 30: Boat projects: Poop box, cockpit floor, Dingy Engine, Diesel Engine and Sanding Sailing Free Spirit. Today to we continue with the various boat projects. A typical weekend of various projects that seem to be all over the place. Since returning from Annapolis with boat parts we have a long list of items to complete so we can get her closer to staying on the boat and doing some testing and shake downs. We ran out of room in the salon and now it’s Go time! We install the poop box today (of course that didn’t turn out as easy as just dropping it in, why would it), Nancy makes Free Spirit to start to look pretty by completing the cockpit floor with Faux Teak foam finishing and Andy and kids tackle adding oil to the dingy motor and bleed the engine as there was a boo-boo and air got into the lines… Nancy sands the staircase and applies varnish to the steps. Goal has been set to try and sleep on the boat for overnights by Christmas so some things get to get done to get us to that point All financial contributions (or items purchased on Amazon) are tax deductible for your US income tax returns for full face and/or retail value. You contribution helps us to continue with project and support events to help us engage with our veterans thru events such as day sailings, working on the boat to help with projects and social gatherings. The supreme athletes of the American Magic ‘Power Group’ came back onboard Patriot today eager to crack into testing their new upgraded cycling system and crank out the watts. Gone was the agricultural hydraulic jib tensioner on the bow, perhaps only installed for when the team is fully operating on stored power, and instead it was the enormous leg-power of Colten Hall, John Croom, Madison Molitor, Trevor Burd, Taylor Brown, James Wright and Tim Hornsby that pumped the hydro at an alarming rate and allowed the rock stars at the back to record a 71 nautical mile day inshore in the Pensacola Bay. Commensurate to the on-water displays that we are seeing literally day after day in Pensacola, is the team ethos being built within American Magic. The recon interviews, most probably viewed by many of the sailors and shore teams in this America’s Cup cycle as a chore, is something that the Americans have embraced and today, James Wright of the Power Group gave a magnificent, open and typically honest assessment of what magic the American Magic team are creating as he offered: “I think it's pretty incredible…talking to everyone as well, I think we all have very similar experiences of just all being super passionate about where we're going and where we currently are and everyone just trying to support each other and trying to build forward and ultimately when the Cup. I think it's a super exciting place to be.” Section 41. Tom Slingsby was back onboard Patriot today and after a period of straight-lining in recent sessions, the manoeuvres were back with a vengeance. A total of 48 tacks and gybes were thrown in during a thorough shake-down of the battery of new sail controls that have been implemented with some remarkable stats. 92% was the number for successful foil-to-foil tacks, and 90% for foil-to-foil gybes. Slingsby and Paul Goodison had Patriot dancing like Fred Astaire today going back-to-back on some manoeuvres as if they were escaping the clutches of an Emirates Team New Zealand slam-dunk or a Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli pre-start. It was electric to witness and yet another real step forward for the team. The cyclor team were again absent today, awaiting some “shed testing” of new equipment according to Paul Goodison and with the crew reduced, American Magic were once again employing stored power to control the sails and foils with no flailing grinding arms or the familiar bob of cyclists. A nod to the future of the Cup? Perhaps. But Goodison alluded to the switch over to electrics saying: “We have some upgrades coming to the hydro system…this is day two or three that we've changed the power over a little bit but once the shed testing is complete with the new upgrades that are coming onboard, I think the cyclists will be back on tomorrow or the day after and hopefully we will aim to repeat a bunch of the aero tests that we did (today) with the new systems, with manual power.” Section 41. Testing the Capelli Stradivari 43 was quite the experience. Here is a boat that is easy and convenient to use, pretty fuel efficient for her size and ultra capable when it comes to carrying guests. When we ran her up to speed she was more than impressive! This boat is exciting, fast, responsive and more importantly she was stable and dry so your non-boating friends won't get too scared when you hit it and run at 45kts. This is a Maxi Rib that can serve as your luxury car on the water. She will transport you wherever you need to go at high speed and cater to small or large groups in superb style. With accommodation for 4 people plus a toilet and shower below this day boat is a true weekender should you need it to be while also serving as the chase boat or towable tender behind your main boat. How good is that! Finally you can't go past all the little styling details on this boat. From the carbon stern shower to the leather inserts and stainless steel bow piece it is obvious that the designers of this boat have invested more than most when it comes to attention to detail. I think these guys were thinking more along the lines of designing an experience that you'll never forget instead of just designing a boat. Brave, fun and cool - I like this Capelli. Il modo è molto semplice, fallo fare a chi lo sa fare … 😂 Scherzi a parte. Veniamo a noi e iniziamo. The search for breeze was real out in Pensacola, Florida on Tuesday as the New York Yacht Club American Magic team opted to stay inshore, close to base with its enormous star-spangled banner flying high from the team crane, flittering across the Bay chasing zephyrs. Not all was lost though as a blistering 19-minute airborne run will have given the data analysts plenty to get excited about, but it was a rare aberration on a day dominated by runs in the 1–2-minute range before Patriot settled back down gracefully to displacement. A day punctuated by long breaks gave the crew plenty of time to play with a new piece of hardware, a hydraulic ram, that appeared to be placed on the foredeck. Lucas Calabrese was keeping close counsel in interview afterwards about the new tech, saying: “we’re just trying to get the most out of the out of the systems that we’ve got there for the jib…but because it was so light today we didn't get to use it.” Let the speculation begin –Ttack tensioner? Forestay ram? The recon team will keep asking the questions. Section 41. The last time they ventured out onto the now crystal waters of Auckland Harbour, Emirates Team New Zealand achieved perfection on their foil-to-foil manoeuvres and established themselves, quite rightly as the unquestioned holders, at the very apex of the contenders for the 37th America’s Cup. Elise Beavis, the current Women’s Waszp World Champion, one of ETNZ’s Performance Engineers and a true global superstar of the foiling generation offered refreshingly honest insight into the first day after the break, saying: “It was really good getting back into the routine of things having had about a month off the water. The last time we were sailing, we were sailing 43 - the one design boat - but today we're back on 41 the LEQ12, and the processes around that in starting the day, ending the day and saving the data from the sailing day is a little bit different, so remembering those and also just all the processes going alongside the chase (boat) and stuff but everyone got back into the swing of things.” Section 41. Arguably the finest sailors amongst the challengers for the 37th America’s Cup, Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli have an air of assurance around them that is translating day after day into pure dynamite on the water. Sailing their LEQ12 prototype, the Italians are operating already at a very high level, despite protestations again repeated today by Vittoria Bissaro, the Flight Controller, that they are still “learning the boat.” Speaking afterwards, Vittorio Bissaro, Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli’s Flight Controller offered some fascinating and detailed insight into the LEQ12, and when asked about the difference between the foils that the team are testing, he offered: “The designers are asking for difference but to be honest I am still learning the boat, so every day we are getting more confident on our little weapon but I think it's early days for me to say if there are any difference between the two designs, they're pretty similar.” Section 41. Having others join your sailboat as crew to help share in the experiences and work of sailing & cruising can be wonderful. But like anything in life, it can also be a nightmare if you invite the wrong person. I've had a few bad crew over the past four years. And usually it wasn't a big deal. But after one particularly horrible experience this past year. I knew I had to say something. For myself and other sailboat captains out there. There is much more I'd like to say on this topic. But I wanted to keep this video as short as possible. If this is something you'd like to hear more about. Let me know and I'll start work on a part 2. I don't like making videos about a negative topic. I'm Daniel aka "Adventureman Dan." I've been living on the edge, from one adventure to another for the past nine years. Stating in Central California with my first GoPro, through SoCal, Baja, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Alaska and throughout the whole USA. Ben Cornish and Giles Scott had the pedal to the floor once again out at the INEOS Britannia winter training base in Palma for another highly productive day of both data gathering and technique training. The early part of the session saw the team practicing and refining take-off transitions and protocols, popping T6, the ‘Silver Bullet’ as the team calls her, with ease before splashing down and repeating. Once flying, the sailors went on long blasts up towards Maguluf and back to Arenal at breath-taking speeds into the 40-knot ‘sound barrier’ and throwing in some more than decent foil-to-foil tacks and gybes. At one point, T6 sailed through a fleet of International Dragons, the three-man keelboats that were last sailed in the Munich Olympics in 1972 and a neat juxtaposition was cast between the old and the new, showcasing just how far the sport of sailing has come in 50 years. Jeff Causey, the Palma shore crew manager, offered an insight into the sessions afterwards saying: “The goals are always just to keep learning moving forward. We always set out at the beginning of the day with an agenda and a lot of times we measure a good day by ticking off the things we intended to tick off, but we're learning a lot about the boat that that we didn't expect as well which is a good thing, so time on the water is where those gains come. That's really the priority for us.” Section 41.
