Knowing when to back off and protect the asset is a sign of experience, and today the New York Yacht Club American Magic Team did just that in chilly conditions inshore in Pensacola Bay with the wind in the upper regions and forecast to close-in further. It was a very early start for the shore team who craned it at first light just after 7am and the sailors were on the water at 8.25am to try and eke the most from the day. “Can you smell that? That’s a lot of breeze,” said Dan Flanagan part of the American Design Team, and he wasn’t wrong. Speaking afterwards Dan Flanagan from the American Magic Design team gave a decent insight into what the designers are doing with all the data that’s being collected on a dauly basis saying: “If I'm in the container, it's either looking at the next design or looking at the loads from the previous day's sailing from on the water, trying to monitor some of the loads on the water and then just trying to correlate what we see on the water with what we see in the simulations… we're making a lot of progress and obviously we're testing a lot of systems on Patriot, testing a lot of concepts and then simulating them in between and correlating what we see in the simulations and what we see on the water, so I think the team’s really happy with the progress and really happy with where we're going.” Section 41. Reconnaissance a) As a campaign cost reduction measure, COR/D has mutually agreed to cooperatively implement a centralised reconnaissance programme for all teams for the reconnaissance of all Competitors’ AC75 Yachts, AC40 Yachts and LEQ12 yachts including both on-land and on-water imagery (the “Joint Recon Programme”). b) Each team is assigned a two-person Recon Unit to follow their every on-water move, but it's not that simple. The cameras are supplied and identical for all Recon Units. Drones are not allowed, and they can't get that close, plus following a boat and keeping a camera steady at 45 knots isn't that easy to begin with. c) A three minute interview follows each on water day, and teams must answer the Recon Unit's questions while trying not to give too much away. It's a raw, unedited view of the never before seen behind-the-scenes development of a team and their boat to win the oldest trophy in international sports. #AC37Recon #AmericasCup #Barcelona2024

In this episode, we’ll take a look at the latest and best Nordhavn luxury yachts that are currently on the market. We will also talk about the exceptional features that we considered when we included them in this list, including their market prices, interior design, and technical specifications. The Nordhavn yacht company is widely known for its quote, “Oceans Apart from the Rest” tagline. This speaks loudly about their fleet as their advanced innovations place them far ahead in the luxury yacht industry, particularly in this segment of trawler-styled, ocean-going vessels. The brand has accomplished numerous feats such as their amazing achievement of having not just one, but eight Nordhavns circumnavigating the globe. In addition, its Nordhavn 76 named RELIANCE was able to set sail onto the freezing continent of Antarctica. Its Nordhavn 68, on the other hand, set the record for traveling the North much farther than any private yacht has ever done. ⛵️ Leave a LIKE, write a COMMENT, and SHARE this video if you enjoyed it! ⛵️ SUBSCRIBE and click the notification BELL to be updated with new episodes! A simply stunning day in Cagliari saw Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli’s chase boat team lay down marks for their innovative LEQ12 prototype and the sailors let rip at race pace, considerably upping the programme and putting the pressure on every other team in this America’s Cup cycle. Meanwhile a total of 54 manoeuvres were undertaken today with the vast majority being foil-to-foil or touch & go. “A pleasure to see” was how the recon unit recorded it and Ruggera Tita, one of the new superstars of world sailing, gave a fascinating interview post sailing. Talking about rounding marks, he commented: “For sure this was the first day, it was a test because we didn't know if the GPS on the marks was working good, but yeah for sure we passed the test…but yeah was really, really, nice to round some marks.” Section 41. Alinghi Red Bull Racing came out today and showed the America’s Cup world just what they’re made of, with a blistering morning session that had BoatZero flying around the waters of Barcelona at speeds in excess of 35 knots. And with the new self-tacking jib system, the result of so much work from the outstanding shore and design teams, fully operational, the team threw in their first consistent set of foil-to-foil tacks and gybes. Andrea Emone, one of the Performance Team that monitor the telemetry coming off the boats as well as observe the sailing style on the water commented afterwards on today’s performance, saying: “As always we ask the team to squeeze and push to the maximum, but we are taking care of our ‘baby’ and we just came back from holidays…I will check numbers and if they haven't pushed I will ask for them to push more.” No clear answer yet on the new electric self-tailing Harken winch that has been installed towards the aft of the starboard trench, but the recon unit are monitoring its use and the heavy rope marks show that this is under a lot of pressure throughout the session. Some interesting detail was spotted today too by the recon photographer of the dilets on the upper foil arm at approximately ride height whilst flying – clearly an area the designers are paying a lot of attention to. Compelling, absorbing, authentic, the real deal. INEOS Britannia had a blistering session today out in the Bay of Palma with T6, their LEQ12 prototype that is more of a data gathering tool, sucking numbers and vital information from every angle to feed back into the overall design process in Brackley, Northamptonshire, home of Mercedes AMG-F1 Applied Science. The satellite transmitting the live data would have been in virtual meltdown today as Giles Scott and Ben Cornish put the hammer down, popped the boat up in flight and kept it there for stunning flight times -with one recorded run of 50 minutes alone – the biggest number we’ve seen to date from any of the contenders for the 37th America’s Cup. The data being sucked off the boat would have been gold-dust to the design team, and it was great to have Will Bakewell in interview afterwards. Will is officially the British team’s ‘Testing and Validation Lead’ providing the bridge between the sailors and the technicians and analysts back shoreside and he was more than pleased with the stunning day, saying: “We have a test programme that we write down in the morning and we go out there and obviously it changes dependant on the sea state, wind and the conditions and the runway and all of those sorts of things, but we get through a matrix of sailing configurations and we did we did most of what we set out to do, and it's a rare day that you tick all of those things off.” Section 41. It was an offshore call today for New York Yacht Club American Magic that had Patriot sailing so far away from land that the joke on the chase-boat was that they’ll be crossing the equator soon and King Neptune will be paying a visit. Speaking afterwards, Sean Clarkson one of the key sail coaches on the team, played down the new system and simply offered that: “It’s a continual evolution of systems and we have to try to develop what we have on the new race boat, looking at different ideas and concepts and chipping away at how we can produce the best narrow shapes using the least energy and keep evolving.” Section 41. Voglio però farti ragionare in altri termini. Top level sport never stands still, and in sports where technical development is at a premium, getting a fresh perspective is vital. With this in mind, the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli Team today took the opportunity to mix things up by changing what had become fairly established crew and helm positions. INEOS Britannia have been doing this recently with their T6 LEQ12 prototype out in Palma and today it was the Italian’s who rang in the changes to get a new perspective. Francesco Bruni and Ruggera Tita swapped sides whilst the four trimmers rotated and swapped places, analysing different crew weights and the effect on the foils and overall trim. This was a day of severe foil testing through all the modes and manoeuvres and the thought dockside was back to whether the additional crew-weight affords more pressure on the foil wings as they flex to the mean at speed. Section 41. When INEOS Britannia decided to adopt the Bay of Palma as their winter training base, today was the kind of the day that everyone had pictured in their mind’s-eye. Sunny with barely a cloud in the sky, a solid 12-13 knots and Barcelona-type waves that could almost have been imported from the 37th America’s Cup venue. It was perfect, and the sailing team looked remarkably calm and collected for this thoroughly entertaining all-afternoon training session that had it all. Giles Scott and Ben Cornish once again shared the helming duties aided by Bleddyn Mon and Leigh MacMillan who had T6 flying with absolute ease, showcasing some terrific control across a full range of sea states. Giles Scott reminded everyone just what T6 is all about when he said afterwards: “We're trying to push each day, and every day we go out we’re able to push that little bit harder. There’s still little bits and bobs we're trying to debug but we’re trying to get into feeding back and getting that good data into the design team. That's the primary reason that we've got this boat and we need to start providing that information.” Section 41. The Tender series of Scandinavian builder Nimbus boats stated out life megayacht tenders, but by adding a few family features the line has become more and more popular as a family dayboat along with, as in the case of the T8, casual overnighting in a two-person berth. These boats have well thought out solutions that add so much functionality to a comfortable and safe day on the water. The Bay of Palma threw up some tricky conditions for the ongoing commissioning process of the INEOS Britannia LEQ12, nicknamed T6 but looking very much like an homage to the famous Silver Arrows of Mercedes Benz. The sailors are rotating as was suggested by Sir Ben Ainslie before the Christmas break and looking better and better as the programme progresses. Today’s helmsmen were Giles Scott in the port trench who was joined in the starboard pod by recent 5.5 Metre Gold Cup winner, Ben Cornish, who did a pretty spectacular job for a first time helming an LEQ12. Speaking afterwards Cornish acknowledged the hours spent in the simulator saying: “Once you're locked in and in the groove it's all very as expected…a lot of simulator time trains you up for this and nothing really comes as a surprise at that stage.” Section 41. American Magic once again put serious hours and miles on the clock sailing inshore in Pensacola Bay as the team ran through what Paul Goodison described as: “a complex test matrix” with a focus on ‘hydro’ (meaning the cyclors and crewing), and ‘aero’ with the sails. It was a long session late into the evening light with Patriot covering some 50 nautical miles on no less than sixteen windward/leeward courses. Attaining down range flight in the 6-7 knot breeze wasn’t easy as that’s right on the cusp of self-take-off, so for six of the nine flights, the chase boat came in and offered assistance to tow Patriot up. But once airborne and flying, the team put in long straight stints to gather maximum data for the design office as they enter the final stretches of design sign-off this quarter and achieved a total flight time of some 82 minutes – gold dust in data terms for the naval architects, sailmakers mechatronics team and foil designers. Riley Gibbs was back on the helm sharing duties with Paul Goodison whilst Lucas Calabrese was seen trimming and the power unit on the cyclors had a full-on day. Speaking afterwards, the ever-affable Paul Goodison offered a terrific insight (as he always does) into the day and the overall programme. When asked, somewhat tongue-in-cheek, whether a day like today was productive and whether they’d learned everything already, Goody offered: “You’ve never found anything in this game! You’re always looking for new things and striving for new things. In these kinds of conditions, we’re working a little bit on the take-offs but there comes a wind speed where we definitely can't take off with this hull shape, so we then get towed up and then we work on some of the manoeuvres we’re going to do. But we ticked off a lot of hydro and a couple of aero tests today in this light stuff and every day you learn something more and see how one thing affects the other.” Section 41. INEOS Britannia became the second team to kick off the 2023 AC testing season with a very encouraging 45 mile run out in the Bay of Palma with T6, their LEQ12 prototype testing platform, that certainly looked much more stable in flight than we have seen to date. With the highly experienced AC Flight Controller Leigh MacMillan taking his first turn on the wheel in the starboard cockpit, supported by Giles Scott steering on the port side, the team simply got better and better as the day progressed as confidence in the platform built and the wind played ball. Speaking afterwards MacMillan encouragingly explained after that: “Certainly we’re kind of letting it go a little bit more as the hours go by and all the shackles are coming off.” But it was a day on the water that very nearly got curtailed before it even started. On the first hoist of the mainsail, a sharp bang was heard around the halyard lock area, and it took some two hours with a shore-team member going up the mast three times to get the situation sorted and the boat back into sailing condition. Tough work for the shore team – especially as the swell started to build in the Bay – but nobody said the America’s Cup was easy Section 41. RMS Caronia, launched by Princess Elizabeth on October 30th, 1947, was a surprisingly innovative ship for the infamously conservative Cunard Line. Built to serve transatlantic crossings and cruises worldwide, the Caronia was one of the first purpose-built cruise ships. Well ahead of her time, she was beloved by both passengers and crew and remained profitable well into Cunard's decline in the 1960s. The Blue Lagoon in Comino is probably Malta’s most popular outdoor tourist attraction, and for good reason. But living on a sailboat in a beautiful yet crowded place like this has one huge advantage, when the tourists head back to their hotels and airbnb’s we get this place all to ourselves. So the trick is to do everything real early in the morning, and real late in the evening. Then we get to experience this place in a way that most people can only dream of. And now is the time for us to do it because in just over a month, our lives are going to change forever, and so we’re taking this chance to explore these beautiful Mediterranean Islands, celebrating our last sailing experience with the just the two of us… or three of us. Episode info: Ep 28 - Maiden Voyage - Sailing Free Spirit. Motoring to New Home Port Well today we untie the lines since making our initial splash into the water and find out what this old girl can do… We wish that we could sail but since this is the maiden voyage for us and a holiday weekend, we opted to motor the 36 miles from Palmetto, FL to Clearwater, FL. Educational learning opportunities this week… 1st we don’t like motoring we needed to exercise the engine for this trip to make sure that everything was working and in order. 2nd – Don’t take a sailboat on the ICW on a holiday weekend and 3rd some people are just rude and not nice on the water to sailboats. We did some under bridge crossings and got to experience waiting for some bridges to open. Overall, it was a great trip. Nancy packed way too much food and took a nap for a little while and it was a “Sh*t show pulling into our slip where we made longtime dock/marina friends because of it. Without them helping us to get into the slip, it would have been disastrous. Sorry, none of that mess made it to film but it’s laughed at all year long on the dock! Can I say this old girl doesn’t like going into her slip at all! Any lingering dustiness from the holiday season was well and truly blown away today as American Magic switched its programme to offshore in search of the kind of swells that can be expected in Barcelona. For all the terrific straight line and manoeuvre data gathering that has been collected whilst sailing inshore, giving the Magic design team a marvellous baseline of performance data to work from, the sailors know that flying in off-axis waves is going to be the key determinant to success come the Challenger series in September 2024 just yards off the beachfront in Barcelona. So offshore it was today and as Andrew Campbell, the highly experienced Flight Controller and stalwart of the American Magic Team commented: “I think that every time we go out there were learning something so it's a big priority for us to go offshore. You know we see Alinghi in the venue doing that and that's a good motivation for us to go out and hack into it, we see Luna Rossa going out and in bigger sea states and we know that we need to be kind of prepared for that and ready for when we get to the Mediterranean.” Section 41.

They dispersed around the globe for the holiday season but starting 2023 exactly where they left off in 2022, saw New York Yacht Club American Magic back out on the waters of Pensacola for another blistering afternoon of test sailing. The mark of this team is their relentless “commitment to the commitment” to quote the great Dennis Conner and their on-water time has been valuable, lengthy and productive. The first team back on the water, they meant business today and the Floridian winter played ball. With Riley Gibbs taking the alternate helm for the first time today, alongside Paul Goodison with Tom Slingsby still away in Australia, the team opted to stay inshore and go through a series of windward/leeward runs to shake down Patriot after the short Christmas break. An issue internally with the Foil Cant System halted proceedings for a little over an hour whilst the expert shore team jumped onboard and solved the problem and allowed for another hour and a half of sailing into the early dusk. Welcome to a new series I'm calling DESTINATION - SYDNEY where we will be showing you different places and activities you can visit and enjoy on your boat. In this video we watched the start of the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race and as were had one of the best offshore hulls I've tested to date we decided to run way offshore and follow the Maxi Yachts around 15NM down the coast before we peeled off and ran hard into a very big chop to get back into the harbour. This Grady White 336 Canyon absolutely dominates the ocean and we were able to maintain 25kts with ease into the wind and boat chop which got us home in good time and comfortably. Stay tuned for more destinations as the summer continues.
